rabino··on Uber Investigating Sexual Harassment Claims by Ex-Employee
Why would you take them seriously if they fire someone senior just to respond to the public outcry but did nothing when this wasn't public?
rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
I never said that. If you want to learn to manage servers, by all means. The industry needs more good people!

But to suggest that everyone should do (or will do it, as some people are commenting here) it is bananas.

rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
I do the same. And some times it goes down and I'm busy so it stays down for a day. And I never find time to keep everything updated to the latest security patches, etc. Fun hobby, but I wouldn't trust that as my only repository of data.
rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
Sure. And that's called a hobby. You can do whatever you want, but the point here is this is not what the masses are going to do. Or should do, for that matter.
rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
You lost me on how you went from "They find bigger and better and stealthier ways to learn about us" (which I agree with) to "move against us in the future". Care to elaborate?
rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
I own my phone, but the data is still in the cloud.

I'm not sure I agree with your version of the future. People don't know enough ( and don't want to) about security, scalability, availability, etc.

rabino··on My Self-Hosted Life
Do you homeschool your kids? Grow your own produce? Kill your own cows?

I mean, why don't you let experts do what they do and you spend your time doing what you do?

Unless you do servers. In that case, sure. Whatever.

rabino··on Less stress, more productivity: working fewer hours is good for you and your boss
I was expecting the list of sources at the bottom of the article to be a mile long. Not a single one. Hot damn, so much broscience and red herrings.
rabino··on Is There Any Room for the Not-Passionate Developer?
Allow me to be skeptical when your first quoted source is Gladwell.
rabino··on Peachpie – PHP Compiler to .NET, Part 2
I'm confused about what the goal of this is. The best thing about PHP is its dynamic nature, and the fact that any new page load is a completely new universe. Why would you want to loose that and compile it to a, well, compiled language?
rabino··on An obsession with safe spaces is not just bad for education
I totally empathize with people that are truly affected by words or ideas. What I can't tolerate is people trying to impose me what I should be offended by.
rabino··on How Steve Jobs Fleeced Carly Fiorina with HP iPod
Oh my god the tone of the article is exasperating. We get it, you think she'd dumb or something, but you need to relax a bit.
rabino··on Alex King, an original Wordpress developer, has died
He was a great person, a great developer and a great businessmen.

And fun piece of trivia, he invented the share icon http://alexking.org/project/share-icon

rabino··on iOS at Facebook [pdf]
The unnecessary bashing of PHP, the lame justification for a sloppy architecture, the immense ego... I don't think hack culture should be used to justify asshole-ery.
rabino··on Slack Raises $160M Series E at $2.8B Valuation
We have a pretty functional distributed organization and Slack has been a godsend for us. We totally love it.
rabino··on Apple MacBook Review: The Laptop of the Future Isn’t Ready for the Present
If you have two external monitors you are not the target market for this machine. At least not as your primary machine. I'm planning to buy one for when I'm out to meetings or traveling. Still keeping my bigger and more connected MBP 15'' for my desk.
rabino··on Ask HN: Could you share your general purpose development contracts?
This one is really cool http://tri.be/update-the-shane-peter-inc-contract/
rabino··on Remote Developers Are the Real Solution to America's Tech Skill Shortage
I'm a foreign (from your standpoint) remote developer working for an american company. I make average salary for a developer (in the U.S.) because my company understands that the fact that I'm working from my home in south america doesn't make me less qualified that someone working from his home in Minnesota or Florida.

My point being, skill level != physical location. My even more tl;dr: find a better company to work for.

rabino··on James Golick has died
I think the reason we focus on the 'what' is our own fear of death. We ask to check in our heads how likely it is for that thing to happen to us.
rabino··on Philae has landed
we just landed a friggin' robot into a friggin' commet

mind blowing

rabino··on Ex-Googlers CockroachDB: A Scalable, Geo-Replicated, Transactional Datastore
Why the 'Ex-Googlers' in the title. Is it like a seal of approval or something?
rabino··on Slack raises $120M Led by Google Ventures and KPCB at $1.12B Valuation
Searchability is a huge + from me for using Slack. That's hard on email + IM. Specially if you were not in the original loop.
rabino··on Slack raises $120M Led by Google Ventures and KPCB at $1.12B Valuation
I'm so happy for them. Great team and great product.
rabino··on YC Alum Hacks Jason Calacanis' Voicemail Message to Ask for Investment
Didn't he do just that by making it public on his twitter?
rabino··on YC Alum Hacks Jason Calacanis' Voicemail Message to Ask for Investment
Out Of all the noise, this is the only comment he should be paying attention to.
rabino··on My Last Day at PivotDesk
adds no value??

It's not in wikipedia. It's his personal blog.

rabino··on A possible future for PHP
THIS. Stop trying to fix what's not (completely) broken.
rabino··on Moto 360 review
It also depends what features do you expect from the watch. I have a Pebble. It does everything I want on a "smart" watch, and the battery lasts from 7 to 10 days. Which is obviously worst than a year, but it's good enough that it doesn't become a PITA for me.
rabino··on It's Time for a Four-Day Workweek
Some tech companies here (in Argentina) are implementing implementing 9-2 or 3 on fridays. It's a nice touch.
rabino··on Ask HN: Is it just me or why does Docker suck so much?
Not sure you are talking to me, but my comment wasn't harsh at all. Just trying to make sure he noticed and fixed it in case it was his real key.
