qikInNdOutReply··on My long goodbye to Windows XP (2022)
The actors attacking old software, are mostly state actors preparing industrial sabotage for cyber warfare. Most xp instances are some industrial equipment with old pcs as controll equipment.

For malware developers those old boxes are uninteresting. To slow, to few, not worth the effort. They are the sloths of the predator and prey ecosystem of software security.

qikInNdOutReply··on FBI seizes bot shop ‘Genesis Market’ amid arrests targeting operators, suppliers
Imagine a DAO Contract using Chat GPT to re-opening such markets with laundered drug funds every time the last one expires.

Talk about whack the mole debugging of the virtual by the real space. It could even come to a "arrangement" with the agents, increasing the number of markets to "bash" over time, so a metric for success exists and grows.

qikInNdOutReply··on Creator of Catan, Klaus Teuber, has died
It needs a unfair-fair dice, as is used for random in many games. True random can produce really unfair results, so in any game there is a counter in the background, counting "misses" and gives you a win every third or fourth dice roll. That way it feels more "fair".

So if energy is available in large amounts (its sunny) and water is scarce.. does it make sense at some point to pump whole rivers back up into cisterns/reservoirs in the mountains or source areas for aquifiers? Just have blackpipes, that pump the water up as steam for one stage, thus desalinating it?
qikInNdOutReply··on Show HN: Promptr, let GPT operate on your codebase and other useful goodies
Imagine, this integrated into software as exception handling. Instead of critical error, fail and send report. Safe input state, create error report + problem description, send to chatgpt, recompile and onwards. Software might never die, but instead "self-repair"..

So AI products can only be developed in AI friendly legal areas? Similar to cloning and stem cell research?
qikInNdOutReply··on We are hurtling toward a glitchy, spammy, scammy, AI-powered internet
Which as a result, will go towards a internet of enclaves, basically every family, every group capsulated, hostile to intruders and new software. Get infected and your "burned" and bannished. Commercial tools (like discord) turning, are banned and replaced with Open source. A small web of trustworthy places is established, always with the threat of burning upon the introduction of spam. Everyone must validate for another, or else. The internet is reborn from a intranet. The mistakes of the past must stay outside. Advocating for repeating them, lifetime ban of you and your family.

No, thats what there politics so far have accomplished. And the first step to improvement would be to admit to that. The magic sentence : "I screwed up. Here is what lead to that, and here is were my thinking was flawed. Here is what i will do better from now on to avoid the flaws i obviously have.."

Human exceptionalism has poisoned so many studies.

My pet-theory why primates do not vocalize is that the neural difference is not even that cemented, it has to be some difference at the language acquiring stage as babys and children, were one human pattern matching center for sound fires constantly, acquiring the language "keys" and theirs dont.

And it all cascades from there.

It would be really fascinating, to help them acquiring language and uplift them. Maybe its even mammal universal applyable.

I life in a european country, and to be honest, im shocked how many of the "old guard" politicians and diplomats consider the whole crisis just a temporary upheaval in the russia relations, that can be waited out before everything is normal again. Waiting to resume the careers as if nothing happened.

A quarter million people dead, because these corrupt non-show of a generation failed to act decisevly, hypnotized itself and after wakeup they do not have the decency to fade into the shadow, step back from all posts and make way for a new guard, ready to take decisive action.

So many dissapointments, especially among the pacifists and anti-imperialists.. intellectual & moral bankruptcy wherever you look.

Might aswell trash the last 50 years of nice words and nothing to show for it. The idea, for all these creatures of comfort to return after the conflict, from the dark and moist places they hid, and try to carry on playacting civilized makes me vomit. "Never again" they yell, while being usefull idiots for those who are at it again.

A majority of cowards, who think that power of believe alone will make them good at the end of history after all this. Im so sorry i wasted all those years listening to them, reading there books and actually believing them to have value beyond the "heating" of the pulped wood.

A lawyer in the west is basically a guidance councelor for CEOs or politicians, determinating how much and how they can move within the system to a position. It is paid accordingly, if work occurs in this capacity. The rule of law is detectable by the price that can be extracted for providing the service to move within the framework and not violating it, aka incur punishment.

If that pay is low, then there is no punishment for violations, or the punishment depends on different criteria entirely. Which could be formulated as a lack of rule of law. There might be invisible rules, ceremonys, within the party, but they are not enforceable, except by higher layers in court. And they are also not part of the discussion scope.

is a abomination. How many of us here, have the abomination running? Step forth and confess..

To not design software, but let it grow with chatgpt on a user trial & error base, is a abomination. You would not push a Travel agency page online, that is created one error at a time.

It almost writes itself..

In the context of china. And its reflected in the sallaries. Its a decorative position of a society pretending to be ruled by law. But in the end its not. So why pay them as good as they do in the west.

qikInNdOutReply··on Midjourney CEO Silencing Satire About Xi Jinping
There. Is. No. such. Thing. As. Local. Law.

There is a fine mist of ilusion of rule of law. But the party is outside of it. And the truth is, the laws is more similar to the law of network connections within the family graph of a mafia clan.

Its basically just used as a body wrapping foil, once the graph has decided to finnish of some node. Stop projecting western values upon a completely different scenario, just because its apt at mimicrcy.

Well, yes, those AIs are used inside of china, instead of tiktok which only exists outside of china. But AI represents a conundrum for censors.

Normally they would just steal it with some cooperate espionage, but they then have not the expertise to retrain it or censor it properly themselves. So i guess the censorship is only temporary, until a chinese version of midjourney can be retrained on the data from within the golden shield project.

But that AI will be largely useless, as it will spout mostly little red book Xi thought and other propaganda.

qikInNdOutReply··on E3 Has Been Canceled
Do they? We are currently seeing the price of asset productions through AI dropping through the cellar floor. And what else remains then? Engine scripting? Can be done via CGPT. Level design..

qikInNdOutReply··on Meta wants EU users to apply for permission to opt out of data collection
No, that is already part of the software framework with which the palantir-cattlerattlers drive the large crowd along the "golden path" on the scenario tree.

The cattle does not get to object, reject it or vote on it. The wellfare of the rancher is all that matters and any attempt to disucss that or just turn around, will just "never work out" because of unavoidable infighting. But dont worry, we are not in chicago yet.

Who could have imagined, that stripping your brain naked would make you hackable and controllable, thus turning you into a organic component with an API for behavioural crowd simulations.

deMoohCrazy has begone! And all that is a best-case-scenario.

The planetary crust contains life 30 kms down. Even if the surface was sterilized and the oceans boild away, life would return from the life in the crust. It would take a long time to "rediscover" the innovations like chlorophyll, but in the end, life would recover completely.

So.. its switching from petrol to coal? Unless they really ramp up nuclear and solar. Which they did not so far..

And dont forget, the first 100.000 kilometers of energy are already spent driving of the lot, building a new car. So fading away old cars as slow as possible is the most energy efficient strategy?

If all you have to solve problems is a hammer ("control population") instead of a toolbelt ("control or alter situations") this is all you will produce as a politician. The political duopoly market failure, which has prevented such "alternatives" from appearing has entered its final, terminal spiral, copying the external alternative that is chinas party, which seems to survives all kinds of turmoil.
