pxue··on Airbnb Is Different Now
11 star customer service??

I got stranded without a place to stay at my destination and reaching out to their support took 10h in total.

I ended up just rebooking another listing on airbnb only to learn I don't get any compensation if I rebooked myself and not through their support system.

Lesson learned.

Founder of a solo dev $500k/year agency here.

10000%.

I topped out around $500k/year. Just naturally settled there after aggressively optimizing my process.

This is with 1 dedicated sales person who's entire job is to minimize and replace churn.

Good to see there is a mathematical proof haha.

I've been exploring productization and have made it a goal for 2024, to possibly breaking this ceiling without hiring any one else.

This is chinese government subsidizing youth unemployment.

My 60yo mother gets messaged every day on wechat from young Chinese ppl asking her to buy stuff on temu, they're all unemployed otherwise.

pxue··on A Company of One
because the whole point of starting a business is to get it to run by itself.

Eventually you (the founder) won't be needed anymore.

pxue··on A Company of One
what's not being said: unless you're rich, it's much better to aim for a small, profitable business within the first 3 months and a low 7 figure exit. If you can't figure out how to do this, work for someone else until you do.

I think the genz are very aware of this.

Yeah.

I have a dedicated outbound sales person who pings their network for referrals every few weeks. Their job is to weed out noise + educate + convert hourly to project based billing

Went into a lot of detail on Reddit a couple years back here

As a solo dev contractor who got my business to $500k/year during the pandemic - I echo a lot of the sentiment in this post.

An extension to the post I want to touch on is that VC funded startups are not the only way to break free from the dreadful corporate games.

Working for yourself at your own pace is.

As an industry we're surprisingly very behind in normalizing this.

Entire model is about buying dental practices with cash, profit share with the dentists and then do all back-office work with economy of scale.

Pocket any efficiency gains and reinvest in more dentists, rinse and repeat.

I think this model might be a huge opportunity in Mexico.

pxue··on As I get older, I just don't care about new technology
I'm feeling a bit of this with all the AI stuff lately.

I went all in on AI back in 2017 trying to build a chatbot for ecommerce from scratch and it went nowhere. Maybe a bit sour grapes on my end.

pxue··on Cancel Zoning If we want to fix the housing-affordability crisis zoning must go
In Toronto there are demand for multi-tennent low rise buildings. Non gets built because the upstart cost is too much for a small builder to invest.

So only 60+ stories towers gets built since the initial permitting cost is the same.
