That's a problem "low-level workers can get full access". I expect that someone with a higher rank than a low level.

That kind of people could work as little as several month (or even just weeks), make a huge damage and then what. No control?

psgbg··on Even with 2FA, Google accounts can be hacked with just a phone number
Well I heard from a friend of mine that in Argentina the cellphone provider can access to your info.

The case was this one. He was cheating her girlfriend, a friend of her accessed to my friend's text messages log, saw the evidence, and told to the gf about it. Apparently, but I never confirmed this, the friend (the one who read the messages) worked in the cellphone provider of my friend.

Since then I know I can't trust in my cellphone ever again, but I always was suspicious about this could be possible.

This is an amazing post.

So, if this is available in libbsd it means that is also available for linux too, I'm right?

psgbg··on The Male Programmer Privilege Checklist
Yeah. Well, I think I should change my own perception about my self right now.

But if there was something that gave me chills was this claim made by Sara

>The Internet is the largest recording of human history ever built

(I mean I'm not that dumb, but I mean I never considered that in a such crucial time we are excluding basically a half of the population by default).

Fuck. Men had the leadership in the field on politics for centuries and in most countries women vote since a couple of decades.

And the computers and internet will certainly will lead our lives for the centuries from now this is quite worrisome because turn the table is pretty difficult.

I'm a man too.

psgbg··on The Male Programmer Privilege Checklist
Too long didn't read (all), but still.

I think I'm in plausible denial or perhaps I'm a blind jerk, but can someone confirm we are in such bad state(!!!?).

I know the gender income gap, and some people in HR prefer a dick but this was too awful.

Culture convergence, awesome!
psgbg··on Gnome developer creates new animated image format
In spanish(at least in argentina) we say "El que se quema con leche ve una vaca y llora"

Someone who has burnt with milk sees a cow and cry...

It means, if you had a bad experience with something, sometimes you extend your unease to things slightly related with your original experiences.

psgbg··on Gnome developer creates new animated image format
My bleeding edge 33.0 display them but has some issues.

For example if you scroll, they may freeze, if you scroll again sometimes work again sometimes not.

Sometimes they freeze at the end.

But it's exciting.

psgbg··on Anita Sarkeesian, Feminist Frequency – XOXO Festival (2014)
I think it's relevant and interesting.
psgbg··on Anita Sarkeesian, Feminist Frequency – XOXO Festival (2014)
I think that this is truly interesting and it's relevant since the world of gaming, computation and informatics are man driven and we need equality.

She makes a great exposition showing some of the problems that she, as a woman, has to deal to express her point of view.

The most significant part I guess it's the end when she says it's necessary believe when a woman says what she thinks/feels/suffers. And it's true that people try to stigmatize the "gamer girl", the "geek girl" accusing of faking it. And when a woman is treated badly is accused again of faking. The victim being victimized.

For the other part, I don't share the vision in general of the Anita about gaming, though a change would be good, but I don't know.

psgbg··on Re: CVE-2014-6271 – remote code execution through bash
Yeah. I'm aware that stable and old stable need to be patched first, I was just surprised by how much time it took considering the kind of risk (and being beaten by sid, the kid whom always breaks his toys).
psgbg··on Re: CVE-2014-6271 – remote code execution through bash
I'm using debian jessie (testing) i386, and I had to download bash myself (from sid) because my up-to-date system was affected but the first patch was available for sid (unstable) and wheezy (stable) and not in jessie.

So I don't know if every architecture, and version is updated with the same speed.

I was using FF too, but I could start the msdos prompt from start menu. I was able to open explorer.exe from it and I tried to ping 8.8.8.8 but then the screen went black.

It was fun though. The mouse is a pain in the ass.

I think you are right that here it's not the proper audience for this.

I really like many of his videos discussing science and atheism and that stuff, but his crusade against the feminist movement (part of it) and against atheism+ and Anita are a little too much.

I understand his disbelief about the threats against Anita but again accuse the supposedly victim for not behave as he would do it's very dangerous.

Now I do believe that followers of Anita and people whom hate him might organize his ban and that makes a lot of sense. For me the bann in the tweeter account is baseless and unfair independently of the opinion you might have about him.

psgbg··on Why Solar (Freakin) Roadways will never exist
About the collection. In general the photovoltaic technology efficiency is about 17%, commercially it's about 27% and there's technology reaching up to 45% but not commercially available.

There's another problem, the efficiency drops with temperature. I don't know what kind of heat dissipation this technology is capable of but assuming the worst case scenario the solar panels will surpass boiling point temperature. This means that without cooling the system in the solar peak it will have the worst efficiency by a huge margin. A typical solar panel is cooled by air, this possibly is siting in a heat insulator.

Another problem are the scratches. Ideally the glass need to be clear, but over time it will lose it's transparency so there is another mayor drop in the production.

There's another problem. As you can see in the video, using these roads you need to transport energy in or out. For do that you need wires, many, but they are expensive. Consider you don't use the energy generation... you still need wires to use the leds.

I consider more intelligent put photovoltaic cells in every building in the city. As you use the same power infrastructure you don't need to worry to install new wires. As the cities concentrate the use of energy then the lose of power due to heat (Joule Law) it's reduced. It's a plus in efficiency. As daily beings even if we don't save the energy collected (because batteries are expensive) is a win. We could use other energy sources during the night. There's another possibility, some scientist are trying to create a photovoltaic paint, this will be even more cheap but also less efficient.

Another ideas. Use the heat produced in thermal plants (Gas/carbon/Dissel). For example to heat the roadways or houses in cold areas (you will heat you house anyway). Use the heat for industries: smelters, oil refineries, glass makers among other. Remember the heat is a waste anyway, but is useful in many industries.

Use the sewer waste to produce biomass energy. Think about it, if your feces produce methane in your body before you poop... The idea is, in general the energy we use is carbon buried eons ago. Methane does not add carbon the the atmosphere only use carbon already there. Then add the previous idea and... imagine how much petroleum you can cut with this.

psgbg··on Why Solar (Freakin) Roadways will never exist
I was really excited by the idea. At least it was interesting.

When I first saw the video Freakin Solar Roadways... I came across with the first problem. The solar panels produce DC... which it's really bad for transport energy, then you could transform it to high voltage AC. So I'm ok with it but then you will need wires and wires. So immediately I supposed that it won't scale to a Roadway system.

So in a second thought probably it will work for sidewalks and parking lots and maybe if you could storage the power then use for street lighting. At this point for me this idea will work in the cities only. But then put solar panels in buildings sounds more cost/effective (and way more efficient). So I wasn't sure anymore at this point.

The video pointed to me some other flaws. And now meh.

psgbg··on 3dfx Oral History Panel [video]
I don't think they failed to imagine a world without analog technology. They failed to produce a painless transition.

The had amazing technologies. I had digital cameras of samsung, Sony and Kodak and the Kodak product was the one I loved more.

Sony and Samsung were stupidly weak to sand, bad battery consumption and some other minor quirks. The Kodak camera was ugly as hell but it worked (thinking some parallel to Nokia products).

Kodak thought "our brand is what people buy so if we offer people will buy".

Fujifilm nailed it. Created a diversified products, put a hand to their patents in plastics chemicals and other things and started to sell technology. So they diversified.

Kodak released products over engineered at slow peace. They still biding in analog products, meanwhile their digital products never took off. Kodak was the mayor patent holder in its time in optical, chemical, plastic and other things. But they were a GIANT biding in sell products and never understood their clients. They never understood their technology value and never understood what the market wanted. One day they stopped to sell and Kodak went out of business.

psgbg··on 3dfx Oral History Panel [video]
Yeah.

Palm's vs Pocket PC's. Nokia vs the world. Sega vs Nintendo.

Not many wars where decided by technology itself but other things.

Nokia trusted his middle-end low-end market share then android and iPhone came out.

Palm lost it's way when the smartphones came out.

Sega lost because bad decisions. Nintendo also had bad decision but now is staying behind because the ferocity of the fight between Microsoft and Sony.

Kodak had amazing products but it's perfectionist way to do things let them lagging behind.

Kodak and Nokia are really sad stories because both had amazing products but didn't understood the changes around them. (yeah both more recent examples)

Microsoft won their previous wars because understood the previous reality "feature complete but mediocre solutions". I mean, what the people need want but no more just the essential part. So they dethrone Lotus, Wordperfect etc.
