psds2··on Man who videotaped himself BASE jumping in Yosemite arrested, says it was AI
Maybe he doesn't have to prove that though. If he can find an expert witness who will make claims that based on their expert analysis it is possible this video is AI generated, and he does not testify himself, then that may be enough to introduce reasonable doubt.
psds2··on With AI Boom, Dell's Datacenter Biz Is Finally Bigger Than Its PC Biz
In todays market I think there is a lot more consideration to speed of delivery over price. Dell has historically been NVIDIAs #1 OEM partner so it would not surprise me if Dell has supply chain advantages over other server vendors.
psds2··on Starcloud can’t put a data centre in space at $8.2M in one Starship
Who would be willing to provide connectivity to servers that are exploiting being outside legal jurisdiction for some kind of value?
psds2··on The North Korea worker problem is bigger than you think
Perhaps that's done on purpose by the people creating the job postings to catch the types of candidates who lie about their experience
psds2··on Apple Prepares Three-Year Modem Rollout in Bid to Outdo Qualcomm
This is correct. Apparently there are two key patents getting in the way.

psds2··on Amazon owes $525M in cloud-storage patent fight, US jury says
How would pencil marks on paper interact with data in the cloud and storage devices like in the patent described ?
psds2··on Spotify ordered to reverse layoffs in the Netherlands
If it is making money you could sell it off. You could also not give it 80% of your time, presumably it would be dysfunctional and not profitable at that point and you could justify laying them off. Or perhaps the division would operate less optimally but still create profit.
psds2··on Hard-to-swallow truths they won't tell you about software engineer job
The person who needs to change their behavior is the hiring decision person. The player is just making the best of his situation. The fact that the game is running means the most likeable person will be promoted, even if they aren't liked much.
psds2··on Zapier: A $5B Unbundling Opportunity
My understanding of how the term was used is this: Zapier has many use cases. Many customers buy Zapier for one or two use cases, not all the features offered. New startups are emerging that accomplish a subset of the use cases that Zapier addresses.
psds2··on Amazon warehouse injuries '80% higher' than competitors, report claims
If we are talking injury rate per holes dug or packages shipped then the number of people working on the task doesn't affect the injury rate.
psds2··on Money Stuff: Tesla Sold Some Bitcoins
Or making statements that imply you plan to hold to the moon when you have a sell order set at 1.7x current price.
psds2··on Explaining 4K 60Hz Video Through USB-C Hub (2019)
Have you tried another operating system? I have used Cinnamon on an XPS 9360 with an external display hooked up via thunderbolt to displayport adapter. I had some of the issues you described, especially the sleep issues.

I asked about this because I'm not sure your issue is totally related to using a thunderbolt dock. Laptops generally require a lot of OEM developed drivers to fully function. It is very possible you would not experience these issues with Ubuntu which is fully supported by Dell on the XPS.

psds2··on “They introduce kernel bugs on purpose”
Adequate use of resources seems like a bizarre reasoning. Do you also evaluate how a candidates alma mater compensates its football staff before you hire?
psds2··on Cost Of Goods Sold
I think the reply was trying to point out that if someone finds out they don't have time to go to the movies two nights a week they will cancel their movie pass. Because the gym is aspirational even if people don't have time one week they are more likely to tell themselves they will have time next week so they keep the gym membership.
psds2··on Ask HN: What was the biggest leadership challenge of your career?
I didn't see any discussion of blind trust. The first point was about focusing on looking at the trust and figuring out how it could be built up.
psds2··on Google used ‘double-Irish’ to shift $75.4B in profits out of Ireland
But paying off debt doesn't reduce your taxable income and why would the government care if you avoid a corporate taxes by giving money to an individual who pays 32% tax on it.
psds2··on Amazon workers vote against unionizing in Alabama
They also stopped selling fresh meat through a butcher window all across the US when the butchers unionized.
psds2··on 7% of Americans don’t use the internet. Who are they?
From the https://nces.ed.gov/datapoints/2019179.asp link - "U.S.-born adults make up two-thirds of adults with low levels of English literacy skills in the United States."
psds2··on An insider-trading indictment shows ties to Bloomberg News scoops
I would think it's a lot harder to prove when the result of learning the information results in no action.
psds2··on Google Cloud lost $5.6B in 2020
It's hard to compare apples to apples here because AWS leverages infrastructure Amazon already had to keep around for seasonal surges to its core business. I do not believe that Google has excess capacity for seasonal demand.
psds2··on Smart Drone Mailbox Secures the Future of “Last Inch” Deliveries
Seems like something that could be replicated with a square piece of cardboard and a QR code sticker the drone reads.
psds2··on Is Tesla a car company, or a casino?
I believe he is calling out that the company and the stock do not seem to exist in the same reality.
psds2··on Nvidia Announces A100 80GB GPU for AI
Rather than OpenCL they have invested in HIP which can target AMD or NVIDIA cards.
psds2··on 16-inch MBP 2x slower than M1 MacBook Air in a real-world Rust compile
But why would you offer your i3 with 32GB when you know you are going to make i5 and i7 processors soon? Apple could offer 32GB here but choose to not offer every configuration at every level.
psds2··on 16-inch MBP 2x slower than M1 MacBook Air in a real-world Rust compile
The point being made is that the processors that they will package with more memory are going to exist on larger dies. When you increase die size you decrease yield so you need to have a mature process.
psds2··on YouTube-dl has received a DMCA takedown from RIAA
Tldr all these comments - youtube dl got in trouble because they link to copyrighted material in the readme which from a legal perspective shows intent to circumvent copyright. If they had just linked to videos they had uploaded themselves as examples everything would be fine.
psds2··on New Economic Challenges and the Fed's Monetary Policy Review
Your version lost the congressional mandate. Took a bit to notice too since it's so wordy.
psds2··on Building the ultimate home office again
And due to changes in the home office deduction in 2018 most people can't even do the same for themselves.
psds2··on Dismemberment Killing of Tech CEO ‘Looks Like Professional Job’
I don't think naivety rules out professionalism. Perhaps he normally works in a location where CCTV footage never makes it to court.
psds2··on Ending at-will employment: a better remedy for cancel culture?
Just wanted to add we would be a better society if we had infact been firing people for using the n word in the 50's.
