precisioncoder··on Wozniak: “Actually, the movie was largely a lie about me”
From the article: " I was an engineer at HP designing the iPhone 5 of the time, their scientific calculators. I had many friends and a good reputation there. I designed things for people all over the country, for fun, all the time too, including the first hotel movie systems and SMPTE time code readers for the commercial video world. Also home pinball games. Among these things, the Apple I was the FIFTH time that something I had created (not built from someone else's schematic) was turned into money by Jobs." It seems that regardless of whether he had met Jobs or not he would have been a tech superstar, rich, and quite probably part of something great.
precisioncoder··on Show HN: Kimono – Never write a web scraper again
I like HN because it gives me exactly what I want. A list of interesting links, ranked by what people that I truest more than news sites think of them. Oh and offers comment sections for each of them. HN is wonderful link discovery during compile time or if you need a break.
precisioncoder··on At last, a law to stop almost anyone from doing almost anything
No worries I read German as well, living in Austria so I had to learn, thanks for the sources!
precisioncoder··on At last, a law to stop almost anyone from doing almost anything
Interesting, I was in Hamburg in Dec for the CCC conference (Which was great btw) and stayed for new years eve. I was curious why so many police were around downtown but figured it was just due to the massive amounts of fireworks everyone was setting off. Do you have any good sources to get more information on this?
precisioncoder··on Searching the Internet for evidence of time travelers
Wouldn't we as well need a counterpart to "frag" such as "pop" for all the people saved/born due to the change? Then if the "good guys" corrected the original "frags" those "popped" people would be re-"fragged" which would cause a split group of "good guys" to attempt to "correct" the previously "corrected" history?
precisioncoder··on I wrote the Anarchist Cookbook in 1969. Now I see its premise as flawed
Tibetan monks have attempted the same and due to differing circumstances they have lost. It's interesting how similar techniques offer varying success rates based on all the other factors at play.

This is a reference to this XKCD comic: http://xkcd.com/224/
precisioncoder··on What the PS3 and Xbox 360 can do that next-gen still can't
I saw a lot of discussion about the mp3 and cd playback features, which seem relevant for music, but nothing about video.
precisioncoder··on What the PS3 and Xbox 360 can do that next-gen still can't
The PS3 really impressed me with it's versatility as a media station. It's sad that they're not continuing that tradition.
precisioncoder··on Are E.T. and Star Wars in the same universe?
I don't actually have a comment regarding E.T. ... to be honest I just wanted to complain about the new star wars
precisioncoder··on Are E.T. and Star Wars in the same universe?
Eh if there's no reference in the original 3 movies (The only ones I acknowledge as star wars) it's not a good enough link for me!
precisioncoder··on High Frequency Dating
The url clued me in robrhinehart.com all you need is a space and wikipedia ;)
precisioncoder··on See Your Folks
Disagree, hell an unfit person can normally walk 30-40k+ a day and biking is much easier and faster. Perhaps you're confusing km with miles?
precisioncoder··on See Your Folks
I think that's exactly what a lot of people are missing. They forget that the US has very little in the way of social assistance. It seems nerve wracking to live there. I save because I like to have the peace of mind but I know that if I need it there will be assistance.
precisioncoder··on After 180 Websites, I’m Ready to Start the Rest of My Life as a Coder
That's the most lovely and exciting thing about life! No one will ever tell you your purpose so you're free to pick your own. You can have any purpose you want, you can freely choose! Not only that but you can change it anytime you want so no need to feel trapped either. My grandmother is one of my role models, after being a housewife her entire life she started writing in her late 60's and became a successful author. It's never too late =)

A relationship without the fire is good enough for some people, others prefer it, others cannot live without it. Everyone is different.
precisioncoder··on What busy professionals and the working poor have in common
Didn't see an email in your profile so thought I'd reply here. I'd love to get some advice about travel in Europe and travel to Japan. I'm living in Austria and want to see this place while I have unrestricted travel =D
precisioncoder··on Australian opposition vows to implement Internet filter by default
Take a look at china. All this means is that ordinary people will have proxy education in their teenage years.
precisioncoder··on Diamonds Are Bullshit
Bought my wife a silver ring with a golden knot of eternity in the place a diamond would be as her engagement ring. It was made by a local artist and one of a kind. It was affordable and she loved getting something unique. I recently made her a silver ring by hand at a workshop and she calls it her "second wedding ring" and wears it constantly. Most women prefer something unique, or hand made since it shows more care then spending a lot of money.
precisioncoder··on Who Will Prosper in the New World
New class: Has no need of a mortgage due to not having interest in owning a house
precisioncoder··on English has been my pain for 15 years
Heh, I grew up speaking English and still had that problem just because my reading vocabulary surpassed the vocabulary in usage in the country where I was.
precisioncoder··on Ignored by big companies, Mexican village creates its own mobile service
From the article: "The equipment used in Talea, which was provided by California-based Range Networks, includes a 900mhz radio network and computer software that routes calls, registers numbers and handles billing. Calls to the United States are channeled via a voice over Internet protocol ( VoIP) provider."

I was at a punk show last night and there was an all female punk band playing. The lead singer was one of the most jaw dropping gorgeous women I've seen in awhile but as the show went on I spent more time watching the drummer. She was giving it her whole soul just rocking out with hair flying everywhere and a big grin on her face. The singer was dancing kind of seductively in a very planned and calculated manner. I was more attracted to the drummer than the singer. Never judge anyone from a picture because it can't show the flicker of emotion over someone's face, or the electric excitement from doing the things that they are passionate about. Those are the things that make a life partner. Those are qualities that outshine almost anything else.
precisioncoder··on How one man turns annoying cold calls into cash
It does if you're used to paying $20 for a prepaid burner and having it last 3 months with normal use. Coming in the other direction I find it jaw dropping how little Europeans pay for cell usage.
precisioncoder··on You Are Your Own Worst Enemy - thoughts on ego protection and self-sabotage
I would say it is due to the fact that computers are full of wondrous things that distract us. How many software people have fought game addictions to gloriously complex and involved game? There are more distractions being created than there is time in the day to enjoy and when you feel tired it's so easy to just access that push button entertainment.
precisioncoder··on He got 1%, we can't hire him
fizzbuzz I find is also used as slang for "Groks simple programming". I would say any fizzbuzz equivalent would be fine too.
precisioncoder··on Confessions of a failed indie developer
I agree. Ludum Dare teaches you YAGNI. I built a better screen engine during LD in a couple hours than the bloated disfunctional monster I was building for my hobby game I had spend a dozen hours on. "First make it work, then make it modular" and "Create something small that works and then iterate" are now my game design commandments that I constantly have to repeat.
precisioncoder··on Confessions of a failed indie developer
Depends on the technology you're using, for Flash Newgrounds is a great resource, even the worst game normally gets tried 500 times.
precisioncoder··on I’m Thinking. Please. Be Quiet.
While not extraordinary by quantifying and studying it we can learn to understand the mechanisms behind it. If we understand concentration and thought better we can start implementing habits to maximize those values. Seems like a pretty decent goal to me.
precisioncoder··on I’m Thinking. Please. Be Quiet.
I can also work with regular noise that's why I drown out voices with Russian or Japanese heavy metal, or electronic music. If I'm working on heavy concentration work I always have earbuds in.
