poyu··on Ask HN: What are some “10x” software product innovations you have experienced?
WordPress hands down. Built in CMS, easy to use editor, not to mention the extensible plug-ins system. You could get a site up and running in an hour.

It uses Webamp under the hood, which is pretty impressive on it's own.

poyu··on The Nintendo Switch uses my open source code
You're right, lots of popular and official packages depends on this package. Not sure what you mean by "core libraries" though. This package is just a wrapper around the Nodejs Buffer module so people can use it in a safe manner due to API changes.

poyu··on PCalc for macOS
I always love PCalc on my iPhone, just bought it for the macOS and I was totally blown away by the "About PCalc" "app"....
poyu··on Show HN: I created a URL shortener that can be entirely hosted on GitHub Pages
Boy I remember doing this when I got my Gmail invite around 2006, those files are still retrievable today!
poyu··on Amazon Review Scam
Buy them from the manufacturer themselves. Anker, Monoprice etc. Or places like B&H, Adorama, Best Buy, at least you get good customer service if it doesn't work.
poyu··on Standing on our own two feet
Story time! Couple years ago I worked in a company in Asia. My boss went to China for work and bought some network equipment for the office: routers, access points etc. We didn't really need them, it's just so cheap he wanted to see how well it works. After setting them up and got it to work, we continue to use our devices as usual. But when we visit a company internal tool/dashboard page that we built ourselves, an ad banners starts to showed up on the page! We were baffled, is our server compromised? Are the computers we're using caught some malware? But it's happening on all of our devices, computers, phones, tablet. Then we start to suspect it's the new equipment that is injecting the ads! Following this, we also noticed it doesn't modify HTTPS sites and that was the last clue of the puzzle. We pulled all the new equipment and sworn to never trust anything from China that has a price tag that's too good to be true.

poyu··on React Fundamentals: What I’m Learning
What’s the reason to avoid class components though? The official tutorial still uses it, though that could just be because it’s outdated?
poyu··on Halide Mark II
I bought Halide when it first came out. As a photography enthusiast, having trying out the app for a bit, I came to the conclusion that phone photography should be kept as simple as possible. While having advance options is great, the reason I carry a phone and not a camera on that certain occasion is because of its simplicity. I don't want to mess with aperture, exposure or focusing, etc. while on the go. If I wanted to do that I would bring my camera. So, yet I think there will be people who's excited for this kind of app, I see it has no use for me personally. It's a nice app though, and no doubt there will be people enjoying it, but the default iOS app does a good job for what I want.

Can anyone point me to a good headless CMS solution that doesn't introduce vendor lock in? I've tried Contenful and I only got nothing but good things to say about it. Probably something open source and self hosted.
poyu··on The personal info of what could be Instacart customers is being sold online
It's gotta be something simpler than that. Perhaps there's a database rollback and now they have mismatched ID somewhere. Or perhaps the caching scheme wasn't thought out thoroughly and the caches got delivered to the wrong person. There's literally a million ways things could go wrong, and hash collision is the last thing I'll suspect.

Very informative site! Thank you for making this!
poyu··on Apple announces it will switch to its own processors for future Macs
I will tell you one thing for sure that it's impossible for Apple to acquire TSMC. TSMC have a lot of customers other than just Apple. I think it's logical for them to come up with their own fab but honestly that is incredibly hard. Maybe in 10 years, I would say.

poyu··on Ask HN: What's your quarantine side project?
Nice photos and nice website! A fellow film shooter approves! I also subscribe to the no JS philosophy.
poyu··on Show HN: Passwords Fountain – password manager interface as a PWA
I think a big reason why password managers tend to have native apps is so that the OS can better integrate with them. For example, iOS' `AuthenticationServices` API which can autofill username & passwords from a third party password manager. I don't think PWAs can achieve this yet. Personally I use Bitwarden, which offers both native and web client for all of my devices.

In any case, still very good to see more choices out there, and congrats on launching!

Edit: word

poyu··on Humans Not Invited
What's interesting is that, humans get to control computers, but computers don't get to control humans. At least computers are not originating thoughts on controlling humans yet. So technically we could get in by asking a computer to do it, but not the other way around yet.
poyu··on Analyzing Analytics (Featuring: The FBI)
That doesn't make sense, why would they even let people know that there's a connection? The hidden login part may be true, but just not on a sites that are related so obviously. It could be a smokescreen of some kind though.
