Probably the scale and usability of things. It's different if you're controlling 100 LEDs vs 5,000.
poyu··on Mini Micro Fantasy Computer
There's PicoMite: https://geoffg.net/picomite.html

It's a BASIC interpreter/OS for the RP2040

poyu··on Ask HN: Why are electronics still so unrecyclable?
> opportunity to take the bulk components off boards, test and sort them, and sell them in bulk.

I think this is already happening in China for certain components.

poyu··on Recreating Epstein PDFs from raw encoded attachments
I think it's the PDF files that were attached to the emails, since they're base64 encoded.

That is its job security ;)

10+ years experience building web apps and services, computer is my hobby. Currently an engineering manager that still codes and work with PMs. My current job consists of talking with PMs, sorting out initial requirements and leading the team through thorough feature refinement process, also discussing with operations team to lay out plans for new features.

Looking for a change since my current company got acquired, and I've been in this role for quite a while now. Hoping to work on something meaningful, to myself or the community.

poyu··on Google shifts goo.gl policy: Inactive links deactivated, active links preserved
I interpreted "inactive" as the link that the shortener is linking to is not responding.
poyu··on Baby is healed with first personalized gene-editing treatment
Made it sound like it's a computer, is it Turing complete?
poyu··on A server that wasn't meant to exist
I thought that just means they're buying him out?
poyu··on Investigating corrupt Winamp skins
> I forget the name of the app that would install custom themes/docks

Shapeshifter! Those were the days...

poyu··on Google still recommends glue for your pizza
This exactly scenario is why our company is so afraid to put AI into production without the results being completely clear that it could be wrong. But if there’s even a chance that it could be wrong, why are we offering it to the user? How much due diligence does the user need to do? Does the benefits outweigh the cons?
poyu··on PSA: If you're a fan of ATmega, try AVR Dx
That sounds more like Alibaba, where it operates like a B2B type transaction. In my experience, just talk to them, sure it might take more time but you can usually get a good price if you’re buying higher quantities.
poyu··on Google releases smart watch for kids
They’ll have to leave the phone too
poyu··on Visualizing algorithms for rate limiting
Probably need to store the bucket on some kind of persistent storage like ElastiCache?
poyu··on Ask HN: What rabbit hole(s) did you dive into recently?
USB! I’ve tried and failed couple times in understanding how USB works under the hood, from electrical, to protocol, then classes, and also Power Delivery. This time around things seem to make more sense now. It started out as an ambitious goal to emulate an FTDI USB DMX converter with the ESP32-S2/S3, but realizing that might be too big a goal, so I’m starting small. I want to be able to make a custom device class on the ESP32, and write a driver with libusb.
poyu··on Meta.ai Oh My
Basically embed a layer of transparent text to the PDF that's invisible to humans but visible to whatever PDF parsing software which will only get processed by LLMs
poyu··on Storm: LLM system that researches a topic and generates full-length wiki article
> Ai is not able to create original knowledge

The current state of LLMs do hallucinate though. It's just not a very trustworthy source of facts.

poyu··on Show HN: I made a new sensor out of 3D printer filament for my PhD
Great job, this is so cool!! Can't wait to see where this will be used in.
poyu··on Ugly Avatar
This is the generative art I love!
poyu··on Noland Arbaugh (First Neuralink Patient) Q&A Video
Isn’t that like almost all of medical devices though? Including ones that have critical life sustaining functions.
poyu··on Resolume
Not exactly VJ, but could be used for it. https://openframeworks.cc
poyu··on Cracking Meta's Messenger Certificate Pinning on macOS
They only need the server's public key to encrypt it client side. But if all you want is to see if they're spying on you, you could go one step above and see if they're calling system APIs to your mic/camera/keyboard, instead of observing the network activities.
poyu··on Linux Touchpad Like MacBook Update: 2023 Progress on Smooth Scrolling
I never find the speed and acceleration of the Apple Trackpads slow. Out of curiosity, how are you moving your fingers when you want the mouse to travel long distances? What I do is repetitions of the movement on same area of the trackpad , e.g. my finger never drags more than two inches of the surface. I also have tap to click disabled, and use my middle finger to move, thumb to do left click, and middle + ring finger for right click.
poyu··on Reverse-engineering an encrypted IoT protocol
I think `spi rd 0 2097152` is probably something in the telnet prompt that reads values from an SPI flash, the two number seems to be starting and ending range.
poyu··on Hold on there: WPA3 connections fail after 11 hours
I’ve always thought this is due to Wi-Fi Assist [0] being less than helpful? Never tested any further though

poyu··on What if serverless meant no backend servers?
We can also just ship it with a browser?! Oh wait!
poyu··on Reading QR codes without a computer
Not sure if it's possible to be honest, it might be if you can sit down with a pen a paper. But again we've seen human perform seemingly impossible tasks before, so who knows.
poyu··on Someone bought 26.9 BTC on Binance and sent it to Satoshi's dead wallet
This would only work assuming the IRS knows who Satoshi is, if they live in the States at all. One would also have to proof to the IRS that you own the addresses, do they understand public key cryptography?
poyu··on Clicks – Physical keyboard for iPhone

poyu··on Compare Google, Bing, Marginalia, Kagi, Mwmbl, and ChatGPT
My only gripe with these quick answers or excerpts is sometimes it doesn’t fully give the context. After it’s given me couple wrong results I stop trusting it and always read the source. If I were to read the source might as well click into the website and read the whole thing.
