pfyra··on Debugging my new network, when 10 Gigabit Ethernet Runs at 300 Megabits
I had problems where the download ran at max speed for about 3 seconds and then practically idle for a minute, over and over. Took forever to download games. The solution was to disable the newfangled ipv6 in my router; now I get full speed at the ps5.
pfyra··on Rahm Emanuel says U.S. should follow Australia's youth social media ban
Is there any place without an age limit for alcohol?
pfyra··on GitHub partial outage
Coincidentally, Azure Devops was also missing the ssh keys earlier today, both in the web ui and for ssh login.
pfyra··on Falsehoods programmers believe about null pointers
I work with the same mcu. You can set up the MPU to catch null pointer dererences so they don't pass silently.
pfyra··on Medieval
Perhaps a "game" with a different sound for each key on the keyboard? Can be created quite simply with SDL.
pfyra··on Dark mode is not as good for your eyes as you believe
I certainly agree about dark modes being different. I've used vim with black background and white text (and bright colors in the syntax highlighting) for many years now, but whenever I try dark mode in other editors they are mostly shades of grey and completely unreadable. Do people really use dark grey background with a less dark font?
pfyra··on Two hackers one keyboard two ways
I remember playing Settlers in 2-player mode with a mouse each on my Amiga 1200. I thought that was the only game with support for that, TIL...
pfyra··on Brisk 22-minute walk could offset harmful effects of sitting, study suggests
Not OP, but I'd say that a big difference between meetings and a 5 minute walk is that the walk does not imply a change of focus. Personally, my creativity and problem solving gets going when walking.
pfyra··on Impacts of lack of sleep
Sounds like you need to share the night shift. It isn't sustainable to work all day and have every night's sleep ruined like that. It'll get better as the baby sleeps longer and longer, but chances are that you'll get burned out before that unless you get to sleep better. We had separate beds so one of us could sleep undisturbed every night.
pfyra··on Testing if a port can be reached, using built-in tools other than ol' telnet
I've tried many times but never succeeded breaking out of a telnet session using that key combo. Perhaps my swedish keyboard layout is to blame, but that combo is simply not working. I've similar issues with the espressif idf.py tool too...
pfyra··on The only planet where 100% of Linux systems have working audio is Mars
Oh, I have so much issues with audio in Teams on windows. Spotify works fine and I can hear the sound when connecting a call or meeting but then the audio is out. Or the mic. You never really know which one will cause problems. Replaced the BT speaker that caused problems for years but usb mic+audio seem just vaguely better.
pfyra··on Learn electronics by practice
There should be a "clearly" in there as well as that word by itself is commonly believed to bring a lot of clarity.
pfyra··on Zig now has built-in HTTP server and client in std
Regarding 1, do you mean that the server would send the response before the request has been received completely? Or is the response for a different request?
pfyra··on Debian pauses /usr merge file moves
> But there is other possibility: minimal root that is easy to manage, switch, etc. etc. and rest of the system :)

Yeah, libostree ("git for operating systems binaries") benefits from merging /usr. It might even be a requirement to have merged /usr to be able to use it.

pfyra··on How Does an FPGA Work?
> Another interesting question, can software (recipes for cpus) be transpiled to be efficiently run on FPGAs?

Yes. At least for c and c++. It is called High Level Synthesis.

pfyra··on Leonardo Syndrome
Who's to say that the projects are incomplete if you have achieved what you wanted from them? Sounds very much complete to me, even though the final result might not be useful to anyone else.
pfyra··on How Did Elevators Lose Their Music?
The right direction, IMO, is to keep the elevators silent. If someone implements your proposal, someone else will top that with complete tracking and the killer feature being the accurate music choice. I bet nobody would like to sign an agreement or privacy policy to use an elevator though. Less is more in this case.
pfyra··on TI-83 Plus One More
Yes yes, but the pico is a lot harder to program during class while looking like you are doing school work.
pfyra··on PCIe Ethernet in Thunderbolt docks (how to avoid Realtek)
I do it the really, really cheap way.. I have my keyboard and mouse connected to a USB hub and switch the USB cable between the computers. I have a USB cable connected to each computer and physically switch which one is connected to the hub.
pfyra··on PCIe Ethernet in Thunderbolt docks (how to avoid Realtek)
Not quite what you are asking for, but perhaps display-switch[0] can help. I'm too cheap to get a KVM which supports 2 4k monitors so I'm using display-switch instead. Works wonders.

pfyra··on Library to send and receive using infra-red signals on an Arduino
Found a link to this library in the documentation. For esp32/8266 it says. Haven't tried it myself.

pfyra··on APKTool: A tool for reverse engineering Android APK files
Have a look at "Family Link". It is not perfect, but it can limit usage of apps and the whole device to specific times (and more).
pfyra··on Covid-19 may have killed nearly 3M in India, far more than official counts show
Ok, I expected some kind of treatment. We do need the same certificate in sweden too, but only from the 5th sick day or so and I think they give certificates for regular cold over the phone.
pfyra··on Covid-19 may have killed nearly 3M in India, far more than official counts show
> Recently went to the doc for a normal cold.

Why see a doctor for a regular cold? I've never heard anyone do that here in Sweden.

pfyra··on How Sweden became the Silicon Valley of Europe
> I'd say most of the US Big Tech have their European HQ in Dublin.

That's due to tax reasons. US companies extracting value from Europe while avoiding taxes at all costs.

pfyra··on ESP32-C6, a Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 (LE) SoC
I have a "captive" or "promiscuous" dns server (it responds with its own IP for all requests) for my esp projects so this info is exactly what I need. Thanks a lot!
pfyra··on ESP32-C6, a Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5 (LE) SoC
I have tried fighting this a couple of times but lost every time. Do you know a solution to make my Android phone keep the connection to a wifi without internet connection?
pfyra··on Microsoft now blocks reply-all email storms to end our inbox nightmares
Yeah, I do almost the same but my rules set different colors on emails where I appear in To or CC. This way I have a quick way of determining the important (To) and perhaps important (CC) from all other emails. I wouldn't want to work with email without these rules.
pfyra··on Ask HN: How do you guys deal with laziness?
I see a lot of fixes here to bring back the productivity but those may only worsen the problem in the long run. Depending on e.g. Work/life balance lately what you (and your brain) really need is a break. Just accept it, take that break and it'll get better soon. If it doesn't then you could consider actively solving the problem in any of the ways other commenters have given.

Just keep in mind that you cannot keep sprinting forever.

pfyra··on Screens Are Bad for Young Brains
It is not as black and white as that. You cannot simply ignore the mother and let her deal with baby blues or whatever pops up on her own or else you are not taking care of the child either. There is enough room to care for both the mother and the child.
