olouv··on Ask HN: What are you working on? (September 2026)
I'm working on a native macOS AI-harness apps to help me be more productive while managing an ever-growing list of projects and apps:

- Cupertino - (https://cupertino.mgcrea.io/), which lets an agent into your Apple-ecosystem data without handing it the keys.

- Bastion - (https://bastion.mgcrea.io/), which runs each MCP server once for every client on the Mac, with credentials in the Keychain and every call logged.

And currently working on Armada - (https://armada.mgcrea.io), soon to be released, to give me better visibility on my fleet of agents and provide a higher level layer to interact with.

olouv··on The Late Software Developer
Mostly the official Claude extension in VS Code, with many windows open: one per project I'm working on, plus one per group of projects, basically the parent folder for cross-project refactoring. One window holds all the AppStore apps, another all the MCP servers, and so on.

Then I'm basically smashing VS Code's quickSwitchWindow shortcut to rotate through the sessions round-robin. It's clearly not perfect, I'm obviously not maximizing each session, but since I'm close to hitting my rate limits anyway I haven't looked for further optimization. Maybe I should.

olouv··on Starlink offering free internet access for 30 days for Hurricane Helene victims
It appears that issues with payment setup were delaying relief efforts, as indicated by this tweet: https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1841207137420132549.
olouv··on Show HN: Multi-display screen sharing with CoScreen

olouv··on Ask HN: What's with the DIY state of the art long-range Wi-Fi?
One tool you could use to design the network, check line of sight, potential bandwidth, etc. is this nice Ubiquiti tool: https://ispdesign.ui.com
olouv··on The Twitter Files: The Removal of Donald Trump
Clearly not worthy of being discussed on HN, groupthink at it’s best!
olouv··on FTX investor Sequoia removed its glowing profile of Sam Bankman-Fried
What I find especially amusing is that it is described as if Sam was somehow a genius for playing while talking in a meeting. It takes literally no intellectual effort to play a game once you’ve played it a lot, it’s like driving or eating. Only thing it shows is probably a high level of uncontrolled boredom/stress/anxiety that had to get out somehow. Hard to believe the “experts” at Sequoia and co fell for it.
olouv··on Nobody wants touch-screen glove box latches
I do! Digital pin protection and slick design without handle is an upgrade for me.
olouv··on Shanghai Quietly Shuts Down Schools, Bars, Gyms as Covid Returns
Can’t help myself from thinking that this insane zero-covid policy is more about the party conditioning its population for a coming war than fighting a virus.
olouv··on Ethereum Goerli testnet merge goes live before move to proof-of-stake
Regarding unstaking it will be capped by a queue of around 900/day similar to what is used for staking. There won’t be an arbitrary delay.
olouv··on Apple Will Not Reinstate Epic’s Fortnite Developer Account
On the contrary, I think it is more about making an example out of Epic about the severe consequences of litigating against apple.
olouv··on Show HN: PlanetTypeScript, Aggregator of all things TypeScript
Too bad it’s hardly readable on mobile (mostly due to the sidebar). If I were you, I would mostly replicate HN css styles for mobile.
olouv··on AMD and GlobalFoundries Update: Orders Through 2024, Now Non-Exclusive
This is not exact. The merge is definitely being prioritized and the current target is Q4’21 / Q1’22. Developers have chosen to perform an early merge by using the ETH2 consensus layer to validate ETH1 blocks, it’s a pretty straightforward process were both ETH1 and ETH2 clients co-exists with minimal changes. There is already a running testnet. More info https://blog.ethereum.org/2021/01/20/the-state-of-eth2-janua...
olouv··on Elon Musk: Bitcoin's energy usage trend over the past few months is insane
Many people in the field don’t expect that there will be a viable fork this time, basically all defi smart contracts that are now a huge part of ethereum (not the case at the time of classic) would break triggering a cascading chain of liquidations breaking the usability/viability of the chain. However the past has shown that a broken chain can somehow still be valuable due to irrational speculation so we will have to wait and see.

olouv··on Vitalik escalates ETH 2.0 merge as miners plan a 51% attack
One theory is that they have planned to fork when POS does arrive but don’t want to have to rollback upgrades like EIP-1559 as it would negatively impact optics vs. keeping alive the “true original” ETH.
olouv··on Vitalik escalates ETH 2.0 merge as miners plan a 51% attack
ETH2 is the ETH main roadmap, not a fork.
olouv··on Vitalik escalates ETH 2.0 merge as miners plan a 51% attack
This is just not true for a proof of stake blockchain. The higher the price of Ether is, the harder it gets to loan enough ether to stake to attack the network. And attacking the network or misbehaving does cost you a lot more dollar money.
olouv··on France law on social networks not waiting for the DSA debate at EU level
This link https://www.nextinpact.com/article/45417/plateformes-et-mote... gives a bit more insight into this "rush" to transcribe a possible future EU law into national law.

It looks like the French government want to leverage the Trump/conservatives global de-platforming to push for new regulation on the US web super giants.

Interestingly, both French ministers (economy and digital) severely condemned the "unilateral" and "oligarchic" decision to de-platform Tump and conservatives. Pointing the lack of "judiciary or democratic supervision".

I think it is a smart move, Europe should clearly push for a sovereign alternative for these global-scale utility-like medium of communication. There is too much at stake.

Why write the executable with an upper-first letter? Looks quite silly and not professional imo.
olouv··on Breakthrough in Synthetic Vaccine Technology Requires No Refrigeration
I think it goes beyond mercury but more generally about the always evolving state of brain research:

- on one side you have old, relatively low-quality studies proving vaccines to be safe.

- on the other side, recent studies forcing us to re-think what we thought we knew. For instance, aluminium was previously thought to be eliminated via urine but has been proven to be able to migrate to the brain via the immune system where it can create chronic inflammation.

I think that we will quietly move away from aluminium-based vaccine for safety reasons. So this is terrific news if it offers another path for vaccination.

Vaccines are obviously "statistically" safe, but our knowledge on the matter is still evolving. And it's best to keep an open, scientific mind on the subject.

olouv··on Breakthrough in Synthetic Vaccine Technology Requires No Refrigeration
In fact Thimerosal was taken out of childhood vaccines in Europe in 1999 and in the United States in 2001. (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/concerns/thimerosal/index....), (https://www.ema.europa.eu/en/documents/scientific-guideline/...).
olouv··on Breakthrough in Synthetic Vaccine Technology Requires No Refrigeration
> Agree with your post, the amount of thimerosal (Hg-based preservative) made it a non-issue in vaccine safety.

Any insights on why it has been banned from childhood vaccines since 2001? (see. https://www.cdc.gov/vaccinesafety/concerns/thimerosal/index....)

olouv··on Why we ground electrical systems (2015)
Beware as this explanation does not apply to every country in the world, in France for residential systems at least, the protection (green/yellow) wire is never connected to the neutral (blue) wire, only to earth with a metal rod at the house. You would get a shock if it was somehow disconnected from the rod/earth. Neutral is also not bounded to earth inside the house. Be safe!
olouv··on Huawei's CEO, Ren Zhengfei's Road to Thought
Might be related to the trade war news, but it appeared as the "top starred repository - first timers" in the changelog.com newsletter. Anyway, found the quotes quite interesting.

> Usually, U-Haul truck rentals are advertised at an affordable sticker price, comfortably in the three-digit range. But a trend out of northern California is pushing that sticker price as high as $2,000, and moving Californians to disbelief.

olouv··on A blockchain is a specific set of choices suitable for a narrow set of use-cases
Sudden cascading lack of trust?
olouv··on A blockchain is a specific set of choices suitable for a narrow set of use-cases
Exact, and we have seen how well this third-party trust system worked during the last financial crisis just a decade ago.
olouv··on A blockchain is a specific set of choices suitable for a narrow set of use-cases
While the definition is exact, it’s a pretty narrow one. I understand that people are tired with all the hype and naturally want to counter it somehow.

But don’t let it blind you, blockchain technologies will deeply change our societies. It’s a trust machine: it creates trust where there is none. Trust being one of the pillar of our civilization, the scope of its applications is wider than you would expect.

Edit: thanks for the downvotes... if your confirmation bias can’t handle a contrarian, respectful point of view, i’d seriously question your rationality as a member of this scientific-related community.
