obeid··on Looking for a Job Is Tough
I don't mean to sound harsh, but it does sound like front/ backdoor metaphor is code for filtering people by the social biases that form much of the personal connections and networks you mention.

The effect of remote work, seems to be leveling the entry point for everyone; an advantage for people who got discriminated against before and a disadvantage for people who enjoyed their privilege for far too long.

Be open to the fact that people watch content of sex workers of all ages, genders sizes, and levels of attraction. What is 'prime' for you, might not be someone else's cup of tea.
obeid··on PragmataPro Fraktur, possibly the only monospaced Fraktur, is now completed
[PragmataPro](https://fsd.it/shop/fonts/pragmatapro/) is a monospaced masterpiece all on its own, but with PragmataPro Fraktur, designer Fabrizio Schiavi is flexing where no one has ever flexed before.
obeid··on Making Figma better for developers with Dev Mode
Unimaginative leadership that didn't trust their teams. Prototyping the 'experience' (mostly happy path) in a design tool, gave them 'visibility' into what the product could become.
obeid··on Making Figma better for developers with Dev Mode
Figma remains a vector design tool that can export raster images.

obeid··on Tell HN: I got 10x Hetzner storage at the same price
I get that this is an upgrade, but it is a 'change' to the configurations that the customer set up their instance with. It would have been outrageous if they opted everyone is without their consent.

obeid··on Farmers always worked from home
Doesn't mean it was not a bad choice of a word to represent the concept. Politicians who create and use these terms are doing it with intent, if it was up to them, they would indeed starve the farmers, you, me and everyone we know.
obeid··on Farmers always worked from home
Farming is also terrible where your parents own their farm, maybe not for your parents who sound like are no longer farming. You should ask their employees, i.e., the actual farmers.
obeid··on Show HN: Quill – Messaging for teams that focus
I have a boss who often uses the subject to send a usually short and concise message and leave the email blank.
obeid··on Why Arabs Lose Wars (1999)
Skimmed, didn't read.

Iran is not an Arab nation. Iranians do not speak Arabic.

The publication doesn't sound objective.

From the 'About' page:

"The Middle East Forum, a think tank founded in 1994 by Daniel Pipes, promotes American interests in the Middle East and protects Western values from Middle Eastern threats. In the Middle East, we focus on ways to defeat radical Islam; work for Palestinian acceptance of Israel; develop strategies to contain Iran; and deal with advancing anarchy. Domestically, the Forum emphasizes the danger of lawful Islamism; protects the freedoms of anti-Islamist authors, and activists; and works to improve Middle East studies."

The founder of The Middle East Forum, Daniel Pipes (awesome name btw) is a known Islamophobe. https://islamophobianetwork.com/misinformation-expert/daniel...

Edit: Added info about the founder.

Read the writer's bio before sharing your hot take on the article.

"Kristen R. Ghodsee, a professor of Russian and East European studies at the University of Pennsylvania, is the author of numerous books on European Communism and its aftermath, including, most recently, “Red Hangover: Legacies of 20th-Century Communism.”

This is an essay in the series Red Century, about the history and legacy of Communism 100 years after the Russian Revolution."

obeid··on Ask HN: Which developers do you closely follow?
The fact you felt compelled enough to pose such a question shows a certain bias in the community that warrants efforts to empower and amplify minorities within the community.
obeid··on Ask HN: Do you carry a backpack? Which one?
https://www.incase.com/shop/bags/incase-icon-pack/black/

Bought my first one in 2007 and the zipper only gave out last year. Bought the current version soon thereafter.

I ride the bus and I love the side pockets that give me easy access to my pass. I pack a laptop, two books on average and a lunch. There are all kinds of isolated compartments for things like legal documents, battery packs, and e-readers without opening the main two compartments. The laptop has its own compartment. There's little pocket on the very top for your phone.

I don't think this bag can compete with others when it comes to storage space, but it will take the best of them when it comes to user experience. The placement of some of these pockets/ compartments is very well thought out.

obeid··on “You won’t read about this in the media, but…”
Not only the 'West', the 'East' itself is desensitized to violence in the middle-east. It's normal to see newspapers there going out of their way to show bloody and gruesome imagery to reflect how "this is more violent than the last violent thing".

In a nutshell: Bombings, assassinations and airstrikes are business as usual in Beirut/anywhere else in the middle-east and that's why no one is shocked.

obeid··on Ask HN: Front-end “design patterns”?
I watched this old talk from the YUI Library recently. It's framework-agnostic and not heavy on code, just a lot of common sense that might not be obvious for some.

obeid··on Standard Markdown
It's not about ASCII, it's about where that ASCII is presented whether it's terminal emulator like mlterm or a text box in a sane OS like Ubunutu. RTL languages can be detected and viewed correctly without any additional information.

Addendum: I'm using 'ASCII' only because in this context we are talking about 'plain text' and not the actual 7-bit ASCII. UTF-8 encoding is a given when talking about RTL languages.
