Lots of great changes in NetBSD 10. Give it a chance if you haven't.
Whatever it was, I hope it wasn't the result of anything serious.
I think I see you over the freebsd subreddit; you're comments are almost always informative and helpful.
Torture is a little dramatic lol. Why should anyone else? If it meets their needs, if they feel comfortable using, or it has a particular feature they like/need.
I use it, admittedly not as a daily driver, but I have it installed on thinkpad and am familiar with 3 of the BSD's. I think FreeBSD does have some issues, some laid out in this letter. The rest seems like some drama.
related to freebsd? what was your situation?
it really isn't
same could be said for pkgsrc I guess. I've used that on other *nix systems; haven't tried it on MacOS yet but the fact it's an option is huge
What about privacy for notifications when the screen is locked? For example, on android, when my phone is locked, notifications pop up, but you can't see who is calling/texting. Is that the case with iOS?
No; they're perfectly allowed to limit speech how they want to. But we're allowed to criticize it as well.
Is gender identity being "shoehorned" into every crevice of our lives, or are people just more comfortable expressing who they really are? And now that they are, people who didn't need to feel bad about expressing their identity don't always know how to handle it.
By making it clear they ban nazi's and the alt-right, people know what they're getting into when they join. I don't see the issue, and I don't buy into "horseshoe theory" or the idea that far left and far right are just two sides of the same coin, because they're not.
You're hearing lots about late stage capitalism because of the times we're in.
You're hearing lots about gender identity because until recently in modern capitalist society it was dangerous for people who didn't fit traditional gender norms to express that openly.
Respect regarding your work, sure. But basic respect for other people is a basic thing that shouldn't have to be "earned."
can't speak to other tablets but iPads get the job done. I have one of the oldest generation ipad Air that still gets updates. Got it secondhand. It does the basics well enough. I'm not sure an android tablet would even be getting that support.
my pixel has good battery life.....I know it's anecdotal but it's been fine.
I've always been an android user on smartphones. Was samsung in the past but now I have a pixel. I like the pixel and vanilla android experience overall. Android allows some freedom to customize, I like their call screening, and the wide choice of apps. Pixels are also starting to be supported for longer; maybe not as long as iphones but it's always been an android issue and they're finally starting to address it. Stability is there imo. I have all the apps I need to do what I do everyday but obviously everyone is different.
I own a variety of different hardware including apple products, but I'm not 100% reliant on their ecosystem, so I'm keeping the pixel for now.
>Also, couldn't find anything coming near the value of a baseline Macbook Air M1 as far as build quality, battery life, stability etc. is concerned.
Agreed
I believe that was something built into the file manager in OpenSolaris, and then into illumos OS's. OpenIndiana has it in their file manager within their themed MATE desktop environment.
