nmlt··on Apple Music is the most buggy and annoying software I use
I feel the UI at least is better than Spotify. And you don’t have to suffer from podcast advertisement with Apple Music.

In the end for all of these services you are exposed to the whims of their dev/management team. The only way around this problem is probably a regulation from the government to force services to offer a consistent unchanging api so that third party clients can be build and fix all of these problems.

nmlt··on iPhone secret features: Save as PDF
These days (or always, I don’t know) you can also select print and then tap print in the top right corner without selecting a printer. That will also open the new share menu with the option to save to files.
nmlt··on My students cheated... a lot
That sounds really cool. I’d say the only reason that something like that doesn’t exist is that nobody has created it yet.
nmlt··on Open and Free Plant Identification API
There is also the German project flora incognita.

nmlt··on Extracting WhatsApp Messages from an iOS Backup
Wouldn’t it be better to know?

What I mean is: your chat partners could archive your chats or some man in the middle. Better to know what you wrote, then to be blindsided later by somebody else who got hold of these archives.

nmlt··on The ever-increasing walled-gardeness of Twitter
This is something you don’t believe until you do it. I can only recommend to take the step to cut out these platforms from your digital life.
nmlt··on OwnTracks – keep track of your own location
What does determining a location via iBeacons mean? If overland is using the iOS API to determine the location, shouldn’t it also use Bluetooth and the likes (which would include iBeacons in my understanding).
nmlt··on Windows needs a change in priorities
This made me feel a lot of schadenfreude and also made me feel better about the “Upgrade to MacOS Monterey” notification on my incompatible Mac.

nmlt··on Djinn Split Keyboard
Pretty sure they’re referrring to the knob in the middle of the keyboard for mouse control many thinkpads have.
nmlt··on Signal on Android: Images sent to wrong contacts
That would be the case if they’d standardize the signal protocol. Letting third parties connect has nothing to do with that. Signal can still change their API any time they want.
nmlt··on Migadu – No-nonsense multi-domain email at a flat price
Many people here are mentioning alternatives. The ones I’m using are mailbox.org (although they recently raised prices for new customers) and uberspace.de (includes ssh access).
nmlt··on Purelymail – cheap, no-nonsense email
How does Migadu compare to purelymail? I’m not using either and it looks like migadu has their own software stack instead of using something like roundcube, etc. And not just a single person behind it.
nmlt··on Signal-Server code not public since April 22 2020
But why would Signal not publish their code? Didn't they just receive a generous quasi donation from that Whatsapp guy?

Can anybody imagine what could be going on?

nmlt··on Fed up with the Mac, I spent six months with a Linux laptop
Yes! Thank you, that was the shortcut I was looking for. It isn't in the shortcut help.

Nautilus has sushi. It's not as good as Preview in MacOS but at least works similarily.
nmlt··on Fed up with the Mac, I spent six months with a Linux laptop
You're right. I don't know how I missed that. Maybe it was dolphin or some other file manager...

>Open a folder with images. How on earth do you switch to visible thumbnails?

It's really easy, or am I misunderstanding you? View -> as Icons. It even has a keyboard shortcut. Or press space bar while with the file selected.

nmlt··on Fed up with the Mac, I spent six months with a Linux laptop
Well, concerning SMB shares I had the same problem in Nautilus a few days ago.
nmlt··on Fed up with the Mac, I spent six months with a Linux laptop
Yeah, I am wondering about that too. Finder can rename multiple files and has a goto folder option. Edit: I couldn't find a goto option in Nautilus. I don't know how I missed batch rename in Nautilus... Still, if Nautilus has any advanced features, they're well hidden.
