nmlt··on A heap overflow and SSO misconfiguration to compromise OpenAI internal repos
Those companies that produce more RCEs than they close will sink and those that don’t won’t.
nmlt··on Ask HN: Why are OpenAI, Claude, and Grok simultaneously down? Coincidence?
Somebody in another thread said gastown and wheelhouse automatically move to the next provider if one fails.
nmlt··on Never Give Them Your Face
This article is AI slop
nmlt··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
Is that true? Many other comments in this thread are saying Apple Silicon has something like 30% better efficiency/battery life.
nmlt··on Framework Laptop 13 Pro
There are enough keys there, just configure some to your liking. That’s a software problem.
nmlt··on Observations from carbon dioxide monitoring
Your reply is unrelated to the article which discusses measuring CO2 in order to gauge pathogen transmission risk.
nmlt··on Bugs Apple loves
Thanks for that tip!

Unfortunately, it's still bad. It's a bit better than dragging the handles of the selected area, but if I go to far and want to reduce the selected area, it doesn't work anymore.

nmlt··on KDE is now my favorite desktop
I can agree to that, KDE is very good. Sadly my hardware has some persistent issues on Linux.

Also, while ScreenTime on MacOS is very unpolished, at least it exists. I do not think something similar exists for Linux or KDE.

nmlt··on iPhone dumbphone
Apple actually finally managed to allow 0 minutes as a time limit. Screen Time really needs to be finished by Apple, with a few more features, like more allowing certain apps at certain times (not just disallowing one set of apps at a certain time).
nmlt··on OpenAI just replaced its core values with completely different ones
It also works in Safari, don’t have to use firefox focus.
nmlt··on Apple Launches Apple Watch 9
They also said something about analyzing blood flow for the gesture, I think.
nmlt··on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
A single cow eats many times the calories it is worth before it is ready to be eaten.
nmlt··on The Decline of Usability (2020)
Apple support recently told me to kill all other apps to make the Files app work. It was taking ages to download and save data.
nmlt··on Why you might want async in your project
I don’t think that has changed.
nmlt··on Steam on Linux Usage Spikes to Nearly 2% in July, More Than Apple macOS
They don’t emulate, they have a reimplementation of Windows APIs. And in some cases, a better one.
nmlt··on Rust fact vs. fiction: 5 Insights from Google's Rust journey in 2022
I haven’t tried debugging with lldb in some time so I don’t know whether it has improved significantly, but couldn’t the 9% also include that?
nmlt··on We're wasting money by only supporting gzip for raw DNA files
Zstd isn’t a product. Facebook isn’t getting anything out of anybody using it. So it isn’t a product.
nmlt··on Linux Desktop Environments System Usage
What he probably meant is that Command+C is copy, etc.

You can’t easily do that because every Linux program expects different things. The hack to make it work is to switch keyboard configs when you switch the application, I think. It’s far from ideal.

nmlt··on Silver Bullet: Markdown-based extensible open source personal knowledge platform
I’m going to try this, I just don’t feel comfortable with Obsidian being closed source.
nmlt··on Using CRDTs for multiplayer text editing
This webpage crashed my iPad 6 Gen Safari when repeatedly scrolling down without reading (iPadOS 16.1.1). It’s probably just too little memory, but still, isn’t this just a blog post?
nmlt··on Tell HN: Siri provides Apple Music link when sharing current song on Spotify
I thin Apple should have rejected all versions of the Spotify app. It’s atrocious.
nmlt··on In the 1990s a piece of Germany’s air traffic control software ran on Emacs
I don’t think that’s idiotic. There is no standard way of transferring a file from on device to another. That is a failing of the tech industry.
nmlt··on Peto’s Paradox
Sounds like the environment of humans is the explanation. If you were to put a whale in a human city, eating and working there, maybe the whale would have the same rate of cancerous cells
nmlt··on Analysis of Apple Watch running data
The author still seems to be on an Apple Watch 4, if I read correctly. So this seems like a case of Apple shipping a bad update to an older device and not caring. Or OP has a bad device.
nmlt··on Analysis of Apple Watch running data
Open health app and press on your profile picture in the upper right corner (scroll to the top). Then scroll down and press export all health data. Also OP mentioned the exported XML has some errors in iOS 16, so beware of that.
nmlt··on Analysis of Apple Watch running data
In iOS 16 it’s tap on the workout, then anywhere under Workout details and scroll a bit. That is really no discoverability issue, because there is even a show more button next to it, that has the same function.

But maybe it changed on iOS 16?

nmlt··on iPhones and action discoverability
Just press on the small album art, then it’s big again.
nmlt··on Whist, a new cloud-hybrid browser
I think it’s really funny that websites have now become so processing heavy that something like this makes sense.
nmlt··on How San Francisco became a failed city
At least for Germany the color in the map might as well be green according to the list later in the article.

Really depends on how each country is counting.

nmlt··on I've locked myself out of my digital life
Why not publish that uuid (not yours but generally)? If the file is properly encrypted why not keep it in a public GitHub repository for example?
