I think it’s because many people from India joined Signal after Dhruv Rathee published a video suggesting people uninstall WhatsApp and install Signal or Telegram. He’s got 1.7M views within a day, and I’m sure he’s bringing lot of new users to Signal [and NordVPN because of the paid promotion].

Please don’t give up so fast.

The story’s now gone.

The collection is quite impressive, and $19 is a no brainer to buy because of the lifetime upgrade.

I have already bought the Tailwind UI with lifetime upgrade and use it for every design I need to make. Hopefully this collection will be a cherry on the top!

Please don’t roll out a monthly fee for it and stop supporting lifetime customers like some companies do.

I thought domain names were created so we don’t have to yell IP Addresses.

Hi, first of all, thanks posting this! If strongly recommend you make this available on these three platforms: DigitalOcean Marketplace, Cloudron and Softaculous. Having a one-click installation option in DigitalOcean is going to give you more leads, and IMO the hottest “host it yourself” platform now is Cloudron. Folks who run Cloudron are extremely helpful so they would help you with it. Not really sure about DigitalOcean and Softaculous.

I’m subscribing for the lifetime option, and wish you all the best!

Disclaimer: I’m not affiliated with Softaculous, DO or Cloudron, just thankful towards everyone who took the time to make one-click options available.

Hey stranger, just push something out there! Just do it, ok?

Perfect.

8x10,240,000Mbits /2.5/365/86400 = 1.03Mbs?

I don’t fav any posts that I like, but upvote them. I also up upvote the ones I want to bookmark, so that I can later come back to read more comments. I don’t really understand why I would need to fav a post.

I think Apple made this move to increase their Search Ads business. Now that those app install ads on Facebook and such are going to be a lot less effective, iOS app developers and publishers will flock to Apple’s Search Ads. I see this as a double win for Apple - free publicity, and more revenue.

The author of the project seems to have built his personal website with this framework, and it looks perfect! https://romelperez.com/projects

Like everyone else said, it's really one of the very few frameworks I wanted to build something on top of as soon as I saw it. Thanks for sharing!

Or, make them pay for not doing the right thing?

Not everyone can take rational decisions. Even if they are in a position to take rational decisions, external factors like greed, pride, social pressure and situation hugely affect those decisions. For example, if there's a plantation programme in the community, and my buddies want me to hang out for a drink at the same time, I will most likely decide to go to the plantation programme, but the buddies will make me hang out with them as much as they can.

Yes, same goes for following traffic rules. You cannot just fix the traffic problems by patting people on the back for stopping at the red light. You need to fine people as much as possible; the higher the fines, the lower the cases of traffic rules violation.

> Probably better compression by not repeating styles everywhere

Repeating styles would be the least of the problem because of the gzip compression, no?

Haha, hey! It’s the first time in 8 years someone waved a hello to me. I’m sure there are many out here but how’d we know.

Nothing can make poverty (as a national problem) go away overnight. But if a guardian started buying 50 rupees (USD 80 cents) worth of milk/eggs/notebooks/pens instead of cigarette, tobacco and alcohol tomorrow, or just saved that up for later, the quality of life will start rising for sure. That fifty rupees, which is what an average person spends a day, makes a difference.

Many people in India are so poor they barely survive, and dream of having their children in some kind of desk job so they can earn money. Any money. But not all parents love their children as much as this dad did; the reason most families stay poor forever is the guardian (usually the father) of the family is indulged in cigarette, tobacco or alcohol consumption. What they earn goes to fulfill the most basic needs of the family, and on intoxication.

Hundred of thousands of families stay that way for years until the kid grows up, and either gets a job, or continues like the guardian. It’s sad, but true story that I lived through. Not really an Indian, but from a similar kind of community in its neighboring country. I’m telling all this because this kind of kind gesture from a father is rare, that's why it became a news.

Many people ride bicycles everyday for work - my father rode 30kms a day for probably 12-13 years because that was the only vehicle we had. He’d have rode 105 any day for me. Kudos to all the dads who put their children before anything else!

I am sorry; I hadn’t come across dang’s replies ever (and I am not able to edit my comment because of the replies). I’m not diagnosing him as a mentally ill. As a CEO of a startup myself I gave my opinion about being conscious about behavioral changes and act on time. But yeah, I realized I could have not said that.

You can tweet about anything you want people to know about. He thought he needs to tweet that he thinks that Ghost’s practice is shady. How many times people have tweeted that Google’s practices are shady and got their accounts deleted on the whims of Google CEO?

They forgot to add “unless our CEO doesn’t like your tweet. In that case we immediately delete your website.”

The CEO needs to see his psychologist. I’m neither being sarcastic nor being provocative, but as a CEO when you find yourself calling your paying customer an asshole and deleting their website over a tweet, it’s time you look back at what you have become.

Probably he is in too much stress due to the pandemic, or he has developed too much of a “I’m the CEO, bitch!” attitude. In either case, Ghost as a company should take care of that guy to stay in business.

Afaik it’s a human review. But they could as well add a label like (dupe) so we didn’t have to be hugely surprised when a post disappears when reloading the homepage.

There’s little you can do if you never had such problems in the past. DDOS is hard to battle with; you could get away by moving your box to another provider, but the IP reputation and other misconfigurations & stuff might bite you back causing a huge pita.

We rely on Mailinabox, which has fail2ban but the server being on a DigitalOcean network, they claim to offer some kind of DDOS protection.

Seems legit.

Why did this post move from #1 to #36 within minutes?

It’s their problem so they should figure it out, don’t they? With more power comes more responsibility.

I have this constant feeling that some post on HN will motivate me more, or just teach me to be less of a procrastinator. That’s the reason I check HN frequently, and click on these kinds of links. Then I see the post is too long, and scroll-skim it. Nothing really changes about procrastination; we don’t do shit until some other shit is on fire.

Didn’t know what worm gears are until I saw this the other day https://youtu.be/oHg5SJYRHA0
