nilawafer··on The profit-obsessed monster destroying American emergency rooms
Isn’t huge profits the definition of success in capitalism? As a capitalist society shouldn’t there be cheers instead of complaining? This part I don’t understand about American culture.
nilawafer··on There's a place for everyone

nilawafer··on Is it feasible for a regular American to keep their physical address private?
Something to consider: Don't register to vote. Might seem counterintuitive but your address is publicly available if you do. Too bad since voting seems important, but not more important than personal privacy if you are in a similar situation.
nilawafer··on Ask HN: Is a portfolio a real need for a junior?
Committing code to open source projects is always going to be a stronger example of work than a personal project. It shows you can work with other people, and handle feedback and make changes through the development cycle.
nilawafer··on Ask HN: Recommended front end stack for complete beginner?
The Wasp project is one option to get your project started quickly. https://wasp-lang.dev/

There are also a CRUD generator available in the Nest.js ecosystem which can scaffold a project for you quickly. https://docs.nestjs.com/recipes/crud-generator

It might help if you defined "medium complexity" more clearly, as this will strongly influence the choice of tech stack based on your actual requirements.

nilawafer··on Current and former AI employees warn of the technology's dangers
When China & India form an alliance and send a peace keeping army to protect the former citizens of the fallen American Empire Megacorp, then the American public might have reason to have regrets about AI. But until then it’s just another distraction.

nilawafer··on Ask HN: Any advice for someone getting back in the game after 13yrs at startups?
In my experience, it doesn't matter what skills or experience you have in tech, it is only your interviewing skills that count in the getting-a-new-gig game. Start doing interviews anywhere you don't want to work, just for practice, then after your have done 10-20 of those, move on to the places you actually want to work for. YMMV
nilawafer··on Analogue technology can be frustrating – is that part of the appeal?
Bit of a click bait title there.

Sure people love records because they sound good and you can touch them.

From a general perspective sound waves are captured and retransmitted by any music format but fundamentally each medium has a separate experiential dimension which of course can’t be captured by the casual desk journalist.

Tangentially related, this idea of fast and performant digital technology unfortunately does not apply to in-car touchscreens which are slow and personally I hate and consider them dangerous.
