newZWhoDis··on PHOLED Will Transform Displays
FWIW: QLED is LCD garbage. QD-OLED (also Samsung) is state of the art.
newZWhoDis··on PHOLED Will Transform Displays
MiniLED is trash.

MicroLED is the only thing that will dethrone OLED

newZWhoDis··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
3 phase is stupid. DC or bust.
newZWhoDis··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
> I might despise Musk, and I'm not a fan of Tesla lately

I’m getting sick of this tiptoeing in every thread that mentions Tesla. No ones going to come to your house and beat you if you say something positive, un-hedged, about Tesla

newZWhoDis··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
In practice none of that is true, the cables hold up fine and the ports wear out. Lightning was a FAR superior design and form factor to USB-C, where what you’re suggesting was actually the case.

I have never encountered an iPhone with a dead lightning port, it’s always the cable that wears out. There’s tons of laptops and android phones with worn out USB-C ports

newZWhoDis··on Volkswagen, Porsche, and Audi say they will use Tesla's EV charging plug
TIL, one more terrible design I can thank Google for!

Maybe in another 30 years we’ll get a properly symmetrical design with something approaching lighting’s durability.

newZWhoDis··on The day I started believing in unit tests
Oh it absolutely matters. Rail apps in particular are full of “tests” a basic compiler would catch.

So you save a “ton of time” writing the code without “cognitive overhead of types”, then you spend 3x as long writing the tests

newZWhoDis··on Progress toward a GCC-based Rust compiler
That is dumb and counterproductive. Your entire scenario presupposes unlimited labor capacity and funding (monetary or otherwise), so “diversity is better!”

In reality, the people wasting their time to produce a redundant ground-up rewrite of existing functionally could have spent their time and effort on something else that actually moves the world forward.

newZWhoDis··on DIY Home EV Charger
Some of us here are actually Engineers (Electrical).

I’ve installed 3x 240V 60A EV chargers, was a cakewalk. I didn’t build my own in this case since I was going for an aesthetic match.

Meanwhile you can enjoy paying some alcoholic $1000 for 30 minutes of work to:

* pop out a hole on the back

* Tap and install 2x screws into studs

* pull 3 wires 6” through, wrap around the strain relief, strip/insert/torque

* flip a breaker

It’s not rocket science, as long as you’re not a complete idiot and turn the breaker off before hand it’s completely safe. 240V isn’t even “high” voltage.

newZWhoDis··on Henry Kissinger Has Died
The 1st amendment only exists because it’s an ideal which many Americans value.

It doesn’t matter if “well it’s not technically illegal because it’s not the government”, people don’t like censorship either way.

If your only defense of [corp/group] is that “well technically their suppression isn’t against the law” you’re probably on the wrong side.

newZWhoDis··on The most powerful cosmic ray since the oh-my-god particle puzzles scientists
Probably a leaky warp reactor on a passing starship :)

newZWhoDis··on Is it legal to mix cash in a jar? How is Bitcoin mixing any different?
The reality is laws and civil order are an illusion, there’s what gets men with guns sent to your house and what does not.

Give us a hint: was it legal pre-1965?

>I always tip my barista at least 20%

I’m sorry but tipping 20% for coffee is nuts.

newZWhoDis··on Hackers know everything is securities fraud
All the necessary context for anyone capable of figuring it out is in the OP.

If you need more than that, you can stay poor with the rest of the people leaving comments as idiotic as the one I replied to.

newZWhoDis··on OpenAI board in discussions with Sam Altman to return as CEO
>house collapses in 15mph wind

Why didn’t they hire a competent builder?

You:

>how do you know they weren’t? It could be pure happenstance! All the nails could… could have been defective! Or something! waves hands

newZWhoDis··on OpenAI board in discussions with Sam Altman to return as CEO
> 2/3 the board outed him

I’ve seen more compelling boards at Home Depot

newZWhoDis··on Hackers know everything is securities fraud
> Last I saw they couldn't sell a truck for $100,000 without losing money.

Is there a term for this kind of short term low-correlation thinking?

I’ve seen it with both Amazon and Tesla, now hearing it again with Rivian. It’s like a certain portion of the population is utterly incapable of ingesting a wide variety of information and then contextualizing it.

newZWhoDis··on FBI Director: FISA Section 702 warrant requirement a 'de facto ban'
Parents have caught FBI attempts to groom their autistic children to become terrorists.
newZWhoDis··on FBI Director: FISA Section 702 warrant requirement a 'de facto ban'
Federal income tax was supposed to be temporary for WWII, we see how that worked out.
newZWhoDis··on FBI Director: FISA Section 702 warrant requirement a 'de facto ban'
Look, it’s either this or the whole FBI. Take it or leave it.

Speaking of warrants, I’d like to start seeing judges held accountable for “bad warrants”, the rubber-stamp problem is real.

newZWhoDis··on Calif. tech investor's wedding trashed base of world-renowned landmark
They… destroyed vegetation! The horror!

Gotta love Twitter outrage culture.

newZWhoDis··on Apple might have to pay that €13B EU tax bill after all
Elon paid one of the largest (the largest?) personal tax bills ever.

How’s that working out for him?

The world makes a lot more sense when you realize the government is basically a gang. The majority of law enforcement/military action falls into a few buckets:

1) Farming the tax cattle (ex: speeding tickets)

2) Tracking down and punishing “foxes in the hen house” who disrupt their tax cattle (ex: a murderer easily destroys $1M in taxes per tax cow killed, gotta stop that)

3) Turf wars vs other gangs who would usurp their role as farmer

newZWhoDis··on Interesting Bugs Caught by ESLint's no-constant-binary-expression (2022)
One example of this I HATE is ruby’s obsession with

return X unless [complex logic]

I sometimes see this stacked inside other complex logic and it’s a nightmare sometimes to figure out the actual control flow.

newZWhoDis··on Omegle 2009-2023
I donate a large sum yearly to the EFF and so should all of you. Great org overall.
newZWhoDis··on Omegle 2009-2023
fuck the optics.

Really, I’d like to flip the script here and dare anyone against EFF protecting Omegle to post their real life resume/linkedin/etc.

I’ll do my part to make sure you’re unhirable, because the “optics” of destroying something as simple and innocent as this are terrible, and what’s actually happening is pseudo-anonymous pressure.
