newZWhoDis··on Noise infusion banned from statistical products published by Census Bureau
Does anyone actually believe this crap?

You think the census is what the government would use to mass identify and imprison people, not the NSA database(s)?

You think homeland security, or the FBI, or any other alphabet agency doesn't already have access to a giant list of people?

Think about what meta knows about everyone, or Google. You do realize that the US gov has read access to their core databases right?

"The census" has absolutely no bearing on any of that which you're worried about.

It's just shocking the level of ignorance that gets upvoted in the comments here now.

Portland?
newZWhoDis··on GPT‑5.3 Instant
The bias comes from the training data.

Since so much of that training data is Reddit, and Reddit mods are some of the most degenerate scum on the internet, the models bake their biases in.

newZWhoDis··on TikTok unlawfully tracks shopping habits and use of dating apps?
I'll post some inside baseball:

Almost everyone in ecom is running every ad network integration they can, no matter the source of traffic.

So if you click a Facebook ad, load a website, enter your information/checkout ALL of your information goes to every other network they integrate with.

You might never use TikTok, you might have every Facebook domain blacklisted, but when you clicked on a Google search "result" (ad) and checked out everything about your order was sent to meta/tiktok/applovin/400 other "networks" via S2S APIs.

Until this is made illegal, the incentive structure will ALWAYS push marketing departments to do this.

newZWhoDis··on Blue Origin lands New Glenn rocket booster on second try
It quite literally is a race.

A space race.

newZWhoDis··on Blue Origin lands New Glenn rocket booster on second try
>200 tons to LEO

*In fully reusable first AND second stage configuration.

An expendable starship would double the tonnage.

newZWhoDis··on Using AI to negotiate a $195k hospital bill down to $33k
Insurance companies get a lot of (deserved) hate, but the doctor cartel seems to skate on by in the eyes of the public.

The white coats are far from blameless here.

Honest answer? The outage would need to last about a week.

We live in an absurd era where "AI Safety" means "AI that doesn't listen to the human telling it what to do".

It'll all be rather funny in retrospect.

newZWhoDis··on Bcachefs removed from the mainline kernel
Synology exclusively uses BTRFS afaik, and there aren't widespread stories of data loss with their products.
newZWhoDis··on Webflow Down for >31 Hours
As a former webflow customer I can assure you performance was always an afterthought.
newZWhoDis··on Webflow Down for >31 Hours
We moved away from webflow because it was slow (got the nickname web-slow internally).

Plus, despite marketing begging for the WYSIWYG interface they actually weren't creative enough to generate new content at a pace that required it.

We massively increased conversion rates by going full native and having 1 Engineer churn out parts kits/kitbash LPs from said kits.

Scale for reference: ~$10M/month

newZWhoDis··on Two guys hated using Comcast, so they built their own fiber ISP
It was there 6 months ago, because when I moved and had to switch to comcast in 2021 I found out about the cap after ~5TB/mo

newZWhoDis··on 4chan Sharty Hack And Janitor Email Leak
Everything happens on X now.

Even when I’m forced to go back to Reddit, all the niche subs I follow just post back to X links where the actual discussion is happening.

newZWhoDis··on 4chan Sharty Hack And Janitor Email Leak
For those OOTL about that last part, a common meme/troll of the moderators/jannies is

“They do it for free”

People would post rule breaking content and say “clean it up janny”

newZWhoDis··on I Fought the IRS for Over $12K and won
Meanwhile my grandfather went through hell with them when they lost a $250k check they demanded since he had to pay quarterly.

He eventually won but they were threatening him with huge penalties for nonpayment and he had to get a lawyer.

I don’t understand the bizarre haters that show up in every GLP-1 thread.

America is fat, and the health consequences of that make COVID look like a regular Tuesday.

“If people just X” clearly isn’t working, we need results and we need results fast. The state with the lowest obesity rate in 2025 is higher than the state with the highest obesity rate from 1990.

newZWhoDis··on Apple Photos phones home on iOS 18 and macOS 15
I always say no to all analytics/improvement prompts.

Both the search and photos settings were on for me in both iOS and MacOs. Completely unacceptable Apple

newZWhoDis··on Apple Photos phones home on iOS 18 and macOS 15
It’s funny how the wordsmiths come out to defend Apple here.

Your “photos” aren’t shipped off-device without your knowledge, just an arbitrary blob of ”metadata” that you can’t audit describing everything about that photo. :)

It’s sort of like “I don’t want my WiFi router uploading my house online!” And someone replying “it’s not your physical house, just a map of the house and the real time location of everyone in it! The house never moves!”

The setup for “that wasn’t real homomorphic encryption!” is in, when in 2-4 years it comes out that they were doing this exact thing.

The entire concept of a homomorphic encryption system is a land mine outside of obscure academic discussions. In practice systems marketed to the public as “homomorphic encryption” will result in user data exfil mark my words.
