netskrill··on Show HN: I wrote a book about Elasticsearch
Interesting, why did you go the route of publishing on notion vs a traditional e-book format?
netskrill··on Show HN: ScreenToVideo – Record your videos flawlessly
I’m wondering if OBS Studio, an FOSS product, can be directly compared with this.
netskrill··on How to Find Consulting Clients
Run a meetup group. There are/were 2 guys who ran the Ruby on Rails meetup group in Houston, and were constantly being asked by companies who were trying to look for RoR devs to hire but would often just ask them to do short-term work. I think their abandoning the group now....but someone should snatch up the opportunity.
netskrill··on Show HN: I'm writing the Modular JavaScript book series
I'd really want to check out the series. The twitter paywall is the only blocker.

netskrill··on Ask HN: What's the biggest risk you took in your career that paid off?
Now you have to deliver on the "accounting for freelancers" course you said you were going to deliver last year
netskrill··on [Ebook] Deploying Rails with Kubernetes
can you consider making the sample project in the book, more real-world like? Perhaps, have kubernetes manage the deploying of redis, and the sidekiq daemon.
netskrill··on Ask HN: Does anyone actually hire from 'developer bootcamps'?
i didn't really have any programming experience prior to enrolling in tea leaf academy. Upon completing the courses, Kevin told us that we would be an intermediate level rails developer, and that kind of stuck with me when it came to interviewing. I positioned myself as an intermediate dev, and received an offer. I highly recommend them.
netskrill··on Show HN: Relaunching Dresssed.com – Premium Rails Themes
good to hear, i thought this was an abandoned project, i reember following this over 2 years ago on HN
netskrill··on Ask HN: Vagrant on Windows or OS X?
i bought a MBP a year ago, so i can learn rails on it. I've been a PC guy for the longest time. But rails development on a mac is just so convenient. Unfortunately at work, we're a PC shop. So do our development on a debian VM using virtualbox. It works fine. So if you have the money, go for the MBP. Other than that, I highly advise not to do rails development on Windows....use a linux a distro in a VM
netskrill··on Free ebook: How to build a Rails server (and deploy by hand)

Just make it freely downloadable and forgo your list building activities.

netskrill··on RoR classroom training for beginner in silicon valley?
I dont know about the physical bootcamps, but i did the Tealeaf Academy last year, and ended up with job as a rails developer shortly after completing it. I also barely had a programming experience, sure I had to take Pascal in college many years ago, but had ZERO OOP experience. I'd recommend checking out gotealeaf, she'd be able take the course while still working at her current job. She should be 100% sure, that programming is something that she's interested in. As a prerequisite, she should complete this: http://prework.flatironschool.com/ and see if enjoys the aspects of programming. Best of luck!
netskrill··on Ask HN: Which programming bootcamps do you take seriously?
I, myself didnt have any programming experience, and took an online rails bootcamp, graduated and got a job from a fortune 50 company as a SW engineer. I was able to ramp up with the codebase relatively quickly and committing/completing user stories in weeks. I did all those tutorials you can think of...code school, code academy, coursera(that rotten potatoes app), and the one I took had a lot of structure and built a production worth app as the main course, all through TDD, capybara, factories, stripe payment integration. The instructors were focused on teaching how to build shippable code. Comapleting the course, and writing a kickass readme files on your github projects, should land you some interviews. Of course, i had to go above and beyond to get past recruiters, who focus on rails experience only...
netskrill··on Ask HN: Finding a job for beginner programmer?
First start manufacturing experience with your current job. Write python scripts, to automate all your tasks. Interview your co-workers and write scripts to automate their work. Talk to your marketing team, and build a django website that goes and automates google analytics reports...etc. after each task, update your resume saying that you have python exp. You need this to get past recruiters. I had to do this to get a dev job w/o any prior experience.
netskrill··on Ask HN: How can a college student build credit?
For 800+ FICO scores, you'll need 3 types of debt.

1) Installment Debt - i.e. a car loan

2) Mortgage Debt - mortgage loan

3) Revolving debt - credit cards, with balance under 50% of CC limit

and of course...no late payments on any of them.

netskrill··on Ask HN: How can a college student build credit?
> There are ways to get mortgages if you want one even if you don't have a credit history.

I've never heard of this. Even if its possible, You will most likely pay a huge premium, if you want a lender to not use FICO scores to determine how risky of a client they're about to lend money to.

netskrill··on Show HN: My first project – Football voting app built in RubyMotion
I'm learning Rubymotion myself. Can you list out the different technologies/gems used in this? RMQ, teacup, etc...?

This looks really nice, btw.
