A very good idea.
necessity··on NASA's plan to save Earth from a supervolcano
BBC.com as of late has been turning into Clickbait.com
necessity··on He created a Wikipedia article per day for a year, including on his wedding day
It's not the English Wikipedia.
necessity··on The FCC.gov Website Lets You Upload Malware Using Its Own Public API Key
it was just a prank bro!
necessity··on Uber, Mired in Corporate Scandals, Sees Uptick in Bookings
Except Uber didn't do anything deserving of a boycott.
necessity··on Let Consumers Sue Companies
>This makes zero sense. It's on par with saying "dude just turn off javascript".

That's what you actually should do, I use NoScript and it's perfectly fine. Stop bitching and demanding people force others into the things YOU want.

necessity··on Uber, Mired in Corporate Scandals, Sees Uptick in Bookings
Are you comparing child label to a a shitty corporate environment? And where did you get "hotbed for discrimination" from?
necessity··on Let Consumers Sue Companies
Don't do business with companies that have such contracts? If there is no choice in a given sector then the issue is a monopoly not the contracts.
necessity··on Defending Internet Freedom through Decentralization: Back to the Future? [pdf]
The risk of a centralized web is censorship by government.

It's that simple. Other things may be a risk also, but not because of a centralized web.

necessity··on 1950s New York City’s ‘Mad Bomber’
That's fair, I will be more civil. But I don't think I am able to edit my comments.
necessity··on Lazarus – A Delphi-compatible cross-platform IDE
IIRC Delphi compilers are usually single pass and thus really fast
necessity··on 1950s New York City’s ‘Mad Bomber’
I don't want to post about politics either, but people post ideological stuff, ideological replies should be expected, no? When I started using the website it was more focused on what it was meant to be, and I don't think I ever discussed politics then. Then the American elections happened and people started posting politics all the time. Well, political replies ensue. I flag posts that are purely political, I don't just reply to them.
necessity··on 1950s New York City’s ‘Mad Bomber’
>anti-communist red scare

McCarthism was as much anti-fascist as it was anti-communist, but of course commies would rewrite history to play the victims. Read the actual laws, it never mentions communism without mentioning fascism in the same sentence.

necessity··on Can a Living Creature Be as Big as a Galaxy?
Given no context I would have guessed that this comment was made on a Star Trek fan forum.
necessity··on App sizes are out of control
Don't download them? Out of those apps the only one you actually need is Uber, everything else can be replaced with a web browser. I don't download anything larger than 5MB unless I absolutely need it.
necessity··on Why the feds took down one of Bitcoin’s largest exchanges
Aside from theft - of which the only evidence is money passing through the wallet of people associated with him - it seems that no crime was committed. Another attack on Bitcoin, and the war on drugs continues to kill more than the drugs themselves.
necessity··on Using Deep Learning to Create Professional-Level Photographs
Still lame, just cropping and increasing saturation/contrast. Some of the pictures in the blog post look worse than the originals, they are artificial.
necessity··on Facebook can track your browsing even after you've logged out, judge says
Facebook is a company, a superfluous one even, no need is forcing you to use it and there is no need for it. Don't like the don't use it. Don't like tracking configure your browser accordingly and get a blocker. It's easy and free.
necessity··on New Skype Update Is Horrible
What are better alternatives in terms of call quality? Hangouts is pretty bad and WhatsApp is awful in my experience. Despite the bloat and the UI Skype is still the only good experience I had.
necessity··on Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Resigns as C.E.O.
I'd say the media, who was already after Uber.
necessity··on Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Resigns as C.E.O.
That's only if you confuse the business model/company with the image of its CEO.
necessity··on Uber Founder Travis Kalanick Resigns as C.E.O.
I believe that (much) more relevant than that is what regulators do with these services around the world. For the people it doesn't really matter if it's Uber or Lyft. We are already seeing a protectionist wave of regulations getting rid of affordable transportation throughout the developing and the developed world, I can only imagine that when self-driving cars actually hit the market for good it will be on the whole forbidden in some countries...
necessity··on Your own company? You can do it (2011)
Not in Brazil no you can't.

necessity··on Updates for older platforms to protect against potential nation-state activity
I wouldn't be surprised if some traffic-related agency was using Windows98, I've seen everything from supermarkets and grocery stores to banks and post offices using Windows98 here (Brazil).
necessity··on Facebook's tentacles reach further than people think
Don't like it don't use it.
necessity··on Scraping Tinder selfies to make a dataset for AI experiments
When I upload my photos to Tinder or Facebook I assume they are stored forever and may be used for any purpose by anyone. Any person who assumes otherwise is a fool.
necessity··on Whistleblower uncovers London police hacking of journalists and protestors
Doesn't seem like a reputable source.
necessity··on Receding glacier causes Canadian river to vanish in four days
Booo it's the ghost of global warming! Always threatening, never happening.
necessity··on Loss of Coral Reefs Could Cost $1T
Why? The poor who benefit from cheap energy don't give a fuck about tourists loosing their fancy attraction.
necessity··on Loss of Coral Reefs Could Cost $1T
Tragedy of the commons.
