namanaggarwal··on App Store Rejection of the Week: Dark Hours
Honestly, reading this, I kinda feel they have an AI integration in the review tool, which hallucinate and tell them it’s Astrology and employees at that level don’t want to go against that judgement
namanaggarwal··on Tell HN: Happy Fathers Day
It’s my first as a father of 4 month old. We have traditionally never celebrated Father’s Day, last few years with social media provenance we started sending wishes on Family WhatsApp group.

This morning felt very different though. I have been getting used (gladly) to waking up with her smile and today with her holding my finger.

That was the best gift ever and getting to take photo with her and my dad :)

Happy Father’s Day

namanaggarwal··on I automated opt-outs for 500 data broker sites (open source)
Is this relevant for the UK? (Genuine question, trying to understand if I should run this)
namanaggarwal··on Ray-Ban Meta glasses have sold 2M units, production to be increased
It’s not a VR device. It has a camera, mic and speakers, that allows you to take photos/videos and talk to an AI agent
namanaggarwal··on Aboriginal ritual passed down over 12,000 years, cave find shows
Fascinating.

Growing up in a Hindu household, a lot of our festivals involve listening to origin stories of the customs. A lot of those have of course been glorified to add an element of holiness, but it's possible they are actually derived from some small incident happened in the past.

Like a butterfly effect, a small insignificant event leading to a major celebration for billion people continued over centuries

namanaggarwal··on Canada demands Meta lift news ban to allow wildfire info sharing
They should ask news agencies to sell the rights to share articles for 0$. Why are they only after one party in the transaction.
namanaggarwal··on eSignature Beta for Google Docs and Google Drive
Will this be admissible in court of law ? I know docusign is.

On what basis is it determined that particular signing tech is admissable

namanaggarwal··on Show HN: Gmail GPT – Bringing AI to Google Gmail a new way to get done
Just want to highlight that this is not from Google/Gmail and I would never be convinced to install a plugin that can read my emails which is not from provider.

P.S not saying this company/product is malicious, just that it requires too much trust

namanaggarwal··on EU Commission, citing security, bans TikTok on staff phones
I don't think it's a fair comparison. Yes, Google and Apple and Meta all collect data, but they are part of a country where their misuse can be challenged in fair courts and they can (and have) been fined.

I don't think if Meta was a Chinese company they would have ever had released(or allowed to) end to end encryption

namanaggarwal··on Coinbase lays off around 1,100 employees
Genuine question: At what point do we actually declare that we are in recession. Do we wait for GDP figures out these signs are enough to assume we are in bear markets now.
namanaggarwal··on How one guy ruined Hacktoberfest (2020)
I think your premise that coding is bad for kids is incorrect. Coding is not typing. It's an art of solving problems. My childhood was coding, it was(is?) something I was good at and I thoroughly enjoyed doing. My initial days were just writing random macros on Excel or coding out my maths problems on BASIC. That has what shaped my career
namanaggarwal··on Update on Omicron
For those commenting that it's just common cold and about herd immunity, I think we should not miss out on overload on our medical system.

This is what happened in India, due to high number of cases (even if mild) the medical infrastructure completely crashed under the load and lead to far more deaths than just a flu could have caused.

Wear mask and stay indoors if possible

namanaggarwal··on Facebook is backing away from facial recognition. Meta isn’t
Works at Facebook, opinions are my own. I find this article highly speculative. Facebook or Meta has not said anything on future uses, but that's for a lot of other things. Company hasn't said anything about not making weapons in the future as well.

In my opinion facial recognition technology has genuine uses, however from the privacy perspective, I personally would want all of these models to be running on my device. Google does it and so can other companies including Meta, and I find that completely fine as long as it's relevant to me and I have an option to turn it off.

namanaggarwal··on What Is Server-Driven UI?
Server driven UI - Fancy name for web browser ?
namanaggarwal··on How I accidentally took down GitHub Actions (2019)
So, OP has answered it and I missed it, Github shares commit hash between Forks and parent repo
namanaggarwal··on How I accidentally took down GitHub Actions (2019)
Question: What did,"https://api.github.com/repos/actions/docker/tarball/76ff57a" had anything to do with the OPs fork? Shouldn't it just point to the original repo which didn't had the clashing commit ?
namanaggarwal··on India’s second wave
I think OP meant less developed countries and not less developed people
namanaggarwal··on A bot that converts Reddit threads into ace attorney scenes
I used to get kicked out everytime I converted a group to comic chat. Those were the days :)
namanaggarwal··on “Appointment” as professor at Harvard was an elaborate phishing attack
If this is all true, This was a very personal attack. This doesn't seem to be for financial gains but personal vendetta.

Putting that aside, she should be equally blamed for falling for it despite being a fact checker for 21 years and also attending seminars, advisory meetings, talks and interviews as "Harvard Professor" without even going to a lecture hall once.

namanaggarwal··on “Appointment” as professor at Harvard was an elaborate phishing attack
My only point is that she is a journalist working for a reputable news agency for 21 years. Her job was to fact check everything. This means that a lot of things she told in the media before should be taken with a pinch of salt.
namanaggarwal··on I received my first donation on my open-source side project
I guess for me it's more like a certificate than money. I still have it and its worth a lot (more than money)
namanaggarwal··on I received my first donation on my open-source side project
I know that feeling. Few years back someone asked me if I accept Bitcoin as donation for an SDK I wrote https://github.com/namaggarwal/splitwise

It felt so good that I went ahead and create a wallet and he donated me some fractional BTC. It wasn't much at that time but it motivated me a lot.

namanaggarwal··on Facebook Banned Our SaaS Website
My comment is on the query for account takeover if you notice
namanaggarwal··on Facebook Banned Our SaaS Website
I think criticism without facts is not correct. If you click on that link, it asks you basic questions collecting the relevant info, before sending it over to an operations executive. Providing a support email IMHO would be just inefficient at Facebook's scale as first few emails would be exchanged just to understand the issue.
namanaggarwal··on Facebook Banned Our SaaS Website
Disclosure: Facebook employee, Opinion are my own.

I think you were looking for a support email. I think at facebook's scale its a bit difficult. I would recommend you to head over here https://www.facebook.com/help/1306725409382822 and someone will help you out. This page can be easily found in our Help and Support section

namanaggarwal··on FTC Sues Facebook for Illegal Monopolization
I honestly think that this story (from the title) is just a clickbait. Ofcourse you need a central server to share the keys and you need to trust that central server. How do you make sure WhatsApp hasn't changed the keys in middle - there is a scan QR functionality. I honestly don't know how these articles still remain active on websites even after proven wrong and obviously clickbaity
namanaggarwal··on FTC Sues Facebook for Illegal Monopolization
Known backdoors? Can you back that up with a source? Custom implementation is likely because they want to strike a balance between security and usability.
namanaggarwal··on Taking PHP Seriously (2016)
That's an unfortunate comparison. Go came around 10 years back and has started to become mainstream fairly recently. PHP has been around for 25 years. So ofcourse the number of libraries you see in PHP are much more and hence much more "amateur" libraries. The professionals writing go code today are the same professionals who wrote PHP code few years back.
namanaggarwal··on Man Becomes Overnight Millionaire After Meteorite Crashes Through His Roof
Do you need to pay capital gains tax on such winnings (or may be some other tax). How will one declare the source.
namanaggarwal··on Send Payments in India with WhatsApp
I think its the opposite. The reason whatsapp was not getting approval was for the fear of monopoly. They brought this rule just before allowing WhatsApp. Also note that existing players still have time to comply but WhatsApp has to comply with this since day 1
