This is beyond the range stated.
Having worked for years in IT for a municipal service, our standard formula was a raise of 0% to 3% based on a performance rating, with 0% being "you're on a PIP and going to be fired soon" and 3% being a top-performer.
This is speculation at this point - but I would assume NYC works against a similar system.
What if I have a significant other and we intend on having kids next year? Or in 5 years? We don't wish to move to a new district. What if we have nieces, nephews, cousins, or family that teach in the district but are too afraid to speak out for fear of reprisal? What if we have grand children, or volunteer with children in the district?
What if I am simply being taxed to pay for public servants who know preach topics I find morally reprehensible?
What if I simply recognize that "the children are our future" and so have a both legitimate self-interest and extrinsic-interest in seeing my version of what is right and wrong being promulgated?
Just please stop - this is obvious-as-all-hell political flame-bait.
HN needs to take a hardline stance against anyone engaged in this “narrative control” garbage we’ve seen in this thread. There is 0 substance provided and it is entirely politically motivated.
Internally, the military had some reporting on “Significant Activities,” major protests and bombings and infrastructure attacks and such.
I’ve always wondered is there anything open-source of that nature - tracking “activities” like these?
The slow-play around reporting of possible attackers and motives is trying to stop the social contagion.
You’ll start on the low end and get a 2k bump per year for a decade or two, eventually hitting the cap.
As such, it exists in a variety of cultures in the Northern hemisphere.
Finland is another example of a nation with a historical use of it.
Folks have to leave in search of work, the old ways aren’t possible thanks to our smaller, more efficient world.
The brain-drain kills off the village and what’s left is a rotting corpse of what once was. Or at least the corpses from those deaths of despair.
A college fraternity rented the house via AirBnB for two months. Parties every night waking us up constantly. They somehow knocked down a 100’ length of fence between our property and theirs. Left trash on the street, ravaged by racoons - I was still picking up old mini bottles up until we sold last month.
I tried being neighborly and politely asking them to respect the neighborhood… they drunkenly tried to fight me. I tried engaging zoning, nothing could be done. I tried engaging AirBnB support - they promised to send off to the owner to inform them. Weeks went by, nothing. Problems night on night affecting multiple condo buildings.
I, finally, decided to engage in clandestine activities which caused them to abate their outside ragers.
Finally, the week after they paid their last payment the host terminated their stay - I know because I could hear them screaming at the host on speaker-phone: “Well I’m sOrRy on pissed on your own!”
I now understand that the owners have some strong financial incentives to ignore shitbags… never again will I tolerate AirBNB zoning requests.
HUMINT types around the world rely on very pedestrian means to communicate with their assets, so one might imagine it's a not-quite-banal but legitimate(?) use rather than straight-up infiltration.
I'm not trans or any of that sort - I'm generally uncomfortable around people. What I don't understand is, why impose upon others? To me, that's my cross to bear.
I don’t understand this… you’ve immediately invalidated your own hypothesis and yet here we are…
Shifting social norms, the liberalization of society, the polar shift towards the self, has caused folks to pursue more personal, pleasurable ends than the good-pain that is raising a family.
You might shift the needle a fraction of a point with social spending here or there, but it is bailing the titanic with a bucket.
If anything, the economic policy might well be downstream of the social. Why the hell should “I” pay for “you” when it doesn’t benefit me. Or vice-versa…
That seems like a terrible investment.
Please avoid extremist talking points that avoid and obscure the truth, this is a site for discussion.
Breonna Taylor was listed on the warrant, not only her boyfriend.
Of the agents involved, the majority were innocent of any wrong-doing. The agent that plead guilty did so for a clerical error.
This “code printout” talking point is just… obnoxious.
I hire this way - I don’t care about a coding interview, I care about how you think about my your work and your ability to speak to it.
I have yet to see concrete evidence of malfeasance here and yet… the circle jerk continues.
If one wanted to stick with a police-on-minority action, the Fred Hampton case is a real helluva situation.
Occasionally, we see well meaning policies going astray - the "must arrest someone" domestic calls in jurisdictions are a contentious-but-great example. Sometimes calls get put in spuriously and now someone must go to jail for a relative non-issue / non-altercation that a neighbor called in.
I would say this was my experience with them - having large credit limits elsewhere, I could only get an initial 300 later increased to 1500.
I was stupidly lured in by an initial 25% off a 4-figure purchase and 5 cents on the dollar reward.
Ultimately, I was a responsible pay-off-the-balance customer so one wonders if this wasn't a way of ridding themselves of an unprofitable consumer...
Hard lessons learned there, sadly.
It's a common industry tactic, sadly, to scapegoat IT operations for internal failures.
I would add, that it offers an extension point / hook-in for a variety of AWS products. I can add custom functions to be called when a Cognito user is created, updated. I can add custom functions to be called to authorize routes transiting API Gateway.
At "The Firm" - we're going heavily in on AWS for our architecture - Fargate for k8s on top of the usual RDS, S3, etc.
We've begun roll-out of an external-facing API authenticated with OAuth2. Our backing store here is Cognito and our routing happens via API Gateway. We use the API Gateway's baked-in Cognito token authorizer for incoming requests, which route to pods hosted in Fargate. These pods represent a variety of projects.
As such we have two Lambda functions providing the /oauth/secret and /oauth/token endpoints for exchange of One-Time-Password for a secret token and secret token for access tokens - they experience very low N call rates (dozens?) of times per day and don't fit into any given API we host via Fargate.
There exists fields of law where the income earning capacity goes beyond a function of (HOURLY_RATE * HOURS_WORKED) that can approach something more of a SaaS function. Another example is all those drive-time radio ads you hear - these lawyers often do not work in your area or state but work as a "Name you can trust" and refer on to local attorneys of variable quality. Franchise operations... not all law is a billable hour.
Sounds like there are deeper issues than "conservative" politics in the nation.
