mustafabisic1··on Show HN: A Tool to Help You Understand Your Anxious Friends Better
As somebody who tend to overthink and had some issues with anxiety disorder last year, this is spot on.
mustafabisic1··on Gemma: New Open Models
The fact Gemma team is in the comments section answering questions is praiseworthy to me :)
mustafabisic1··on Is Twitter on web down for anybody else?
What a moment, I just sent a big email and the main call to action was Twitter spaces happening in a few hours. When I clicked the live link thought that I made an error and will have to send out an apology email lol never been more glad Twitter was down :D
mustafabisic1··on More Kids = More Gratitude
Yes, I agree a sentiment against having more children is dominant mainstream. My experience has been that more and more people are ignoring this sentiment and going after it.

It’s an idividual thing and for myself I’m grateful to have as many kids as God gives me.

mustafabisic1··on More Kids = More Gratitude
Agreed, it’s a balancing act and it’s quute individual.
mustafabisic1··on More Kids = More Gratitude
That’s another angle. Love it
mustafabisic1··on More Kids = More Gratitude
Great commeny. Of course they can grow up to be happy. My wife is the only child and she’s great. I’m just talking about pronciple and more of a feeling. It’s not a law nor a rule .
mustafabisic1··on More Kids = More Gratitude
Agreed. I feel like I'm there as a side-quest for them and them learning from each other is the main point of the "game".
mustafabisic1··on Therapy as a way of aligning with your subconscious
I live in a country where there’s a lot of stigma about therapy, but I really loved my experience with it.

In my first session I discovered a huge sticking point of mine. I go and do something for self-care like gym or a massage, but the entire time I feel guilty because my wife’s home with kids.

It was obvious when I realised it, but it happened for years prior.

Niw my experience during these activities js so much better.

P.s. Whenever I see a headline with all lower case letters I immediately like it more. Lol

mustafabisic1··on Shopify discourages meetings by shaming employees with cost calculator
It's just like how the the new manager at this company likes to work. He said in a lot of his management philosophies he vowed to himself when he was entry level if he becomes a manager he'll do things differently.

And, kudos to him, he does.

mustafabisic1··on Shopify discourages meetings by shaming employees with cost calculator
The title makes it seem like a bad thing, but it makes total sense to me to want to cut unnecessary meetings down and use "different tactics" of getting there. I work in a company right now where we have 1 meeting at the start of the week and that's it (unless something comes up - it rarely does) It's a game-changer for my output and productivity.

mustafabisic1··on Get Paid: Understanding and Negotiating Compensation
I have the silliest "negotiation" style. I do my research on the person and the company.

If I like the leader and the company, when it comes to pay I just say to them: "I'd love working with you and I know you'll give me the best you can".

It worked out for me as I'm incredibly happy with my role.

That being said, the data is there, and if I had to do it again, I'd negotiate.

mustafabisic1··on Ask HN: Would you get upset if a news article mentions your nationality?
It'd be an honor for me (if it was in positive news)

I am what I am largely because I am born in my country.

mustafabisic1··on The Definitive List of Things I Don't Know
This is much wider than only for engineering this should be for life.

Thoroughly enjoyed it.

mustafabisic1··on U.S. moves to bar noncompete agreements in labor contracts
Michael Scott likes this :S

How the turntables ...

mustafabisic1··on Why does my sleep become worse as I age?
Definitely noticed the same thing.

When I got to 25 - everything improved and got faster and easier

When I got to 30 - everything started to slow down a bit

mustafabisic1··on Salesforce will lay off 10% of staff as part of restructuring
Not fun. I read somewhere a year ago that there will are more than 10000 salesforce cloud related jobs available and can't be fulfilled.

For me it looks like Salesforce is here to stay. We'll see how it goes for them if their clients start to tank.

mustafabisic1··on Going full time on my SaaS after 13 years
I love this story and I wish you all the best. It goes to show that everybody has their own pace and journey.

I feel like a lot of people are happy in their work even without a side gig, but it's kind of not cool to say.

I'm totally happy with my role and couldn't be happier and more committed to my current job.

The beautiful thing is that I have my own pace as well on a side gig. After 10 years of thinking and planning I just started on one faithful day with a HN comment 23 weeks ago.

Today my weekly newsletter for remote working parents has 23 newsletter sends and over 100 subscribers (muscle)

mustafabisic1··on Japan’s business owners can’t find successors – one man is giving his away
Low birth rates are definitely becoming a mainstream problem.

I wouldn't discount us from finding a solution, but looks like a tough one.

mustafabisic1··on My strategies for keeping my attention
This is what I'm talking about when I say January is Productivity month on HN.

I've tried many of these myself. The 50 minute one worked surprisingly well for me.

Also, the latest thing that's killing it for me is a standing desk coupled with a treadmill.

Really happy with how that's making me feel and work.

Btw. Love your website, I'm also trying to put myself out there with a weekly newsletter for remote working parents - https://thursdaydigest.com/

mustafabisic1··on Optimal hydration may slow down the aging process in humans
Another anectode, the 2 weeks ago I had some minor urinary tract infection and the solution was - drink more fluids. Water or tea.

I was sure how much was it, so I drank much more than usual of tea and a water intake was normal.

At some point I reversed it. Stopped drinking tea, but drank 1 liter of water conciously.

And man did that changed things quickly. In two days my uti was gone and I had such a great time working more, thinking more creatively, even having clearer skin.

mustafabisic1··on Interview with Benjamin de Cock, early designer at Stripe
I have a boss like he mentioned here -

“His optimism is also remarkable and contagious. We went through many difficult periods over the years due to exponential growth, reliability concerns, etc. and his tendency to see solutions wherever others see problems is simply wonderful.”

It's amazing how one person can be such a blessing for your life.

mustafabisic1··on Disagreeable personalities do not have an advantage in power at work (2020)
Totally agreed. That's why it's nice to have studies like these
mustafabisic1··on 2022
Loved your post, agree with what you wrote, and I'm happy for you.

I should have led with that before my newsletter stuff lol

sorry

mustafabisic1··on 2022
In my newsletter I just wrote a similar message.

As remote-working parents, we are under tremendous stress even if we don’t have anything else going on.

I used to be so hard on myself when I missed deadlines. My internal dialogue was that of shame, guilt, and self-loathing.

Had to change that. For myself. For my family. For my work. Form my community.

So here I am. Late with the newsletter. But still making it happen. Still kicking it. Still making it happen.

What are you still making happen into the New Year?

What makes you excited?

P.S. Would love to connect

mustafabisic1··on Disagreeable personalities do not have an advantage in power at work (2020)
Interesting. It's counter-intuitive. I feel like those are the kind of people that need to have the least amount of talent to rise to the top.

And even that doesn't help them?

I'm glad it's like that, it's just a bit off for me a bit.

mustafabisic1··on On Charlie Munger (2019)
This reminds me of a concept that you'll almost never see a scholar and intellectual go senile or have problems with the mind.

I guess it's because the brain is used so intensely it's the last thing to fall.

mustafabisic1··on Ask HN: Concepts that clicked only years after you first encountered them?
For me it was basic statistics. Statistical significance and variability.

Had Statistics in college, but only understood it now that I use it to understand data.
