mpalczewski··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
so you thought I had a handy citation showing 0.5g is meaningful.

or were you just trying to make a point that you didn't think 0.5g is meaningful.

i don't fucking know. vegetarians seem to gain more than non vegetarians from creatine supplementation. implying that eating meat is meaningful. then you fixated on 0.5g as if 4oz of red meat per day was allot or not, I don't even know.

but I see it now. the accusation of goal post shifting, you are arguing about what idk. find your damn citation.

mpalczewski··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
you are either doing it for moral reasons. in that case all these facts are irrelevant. or you can eat red meat for a month and see if you can tell the difference. if you can't there's your answer.

citations are bullshit for this context. Unless you are doing research.

mpalczewski··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
A vegetarian diet is not a null hypothesis. Other way around

I doubt any company shares your moral values. Though a few of them might pay some lip service do some of your moral values. You tell me, have you audit all the companies you do business with to see if they share your moral values.
mpalczewski··on Uproar in France over award-winning author accused of using AI
The uproar is in France. Sounds like the bigger uproar could have been the shitty writing.

Then again. Europeans have ret-conned genericized names into terroir so it's not exactly surprising.

mpalczewski··on Uproar in France over award-winning author accused of using AI
Agreed. It’s not like a particular word is any different when it’s made by ai.

Would we care if someone used a typewriter vs a computer to write it.

This looks like a weird snobbishness. The fact that it’s by Europeans makes it more funny since they have been left out of the AI race.

In the end you have a final product. Can critique it on its own. He used ai to help write it and you couldn’t tell before, says more about the product and perhaps you don’t like what it says about you .

mpalczewski··on Creatine uptake enhances antitumor immunity
That's because creatine is missing in vegetarian diets. It is found in beef. Something to consider if you are thinking about going vegetarian.

The analysis might be better on Artifical Analysis' however the way the information is presented by terrydjony is so much better. I'm able to get the exact actionable info I want. Whereas on artificial Analysis I'm analyzing and figuring it out.

It's the equivalent of ai slop writing in a data format.

good use of AI to generate this.

The meaning isn't clear at all. So open for interpretation that it is meaningless. That's the whole fucking point. For all I know they are "pacing the frontier", or not. The fact that there's no meaning to it let's you know that it was a pointless waste of tokens and attention.

it's surprising how often this has been an issue. given up on it a long time ago. now old school print statements instead. seem to work better anyway. the debugger isn't slowing the app down.

mpalczewski··on How the Tobacco Industry Drove the Rise of Ultra-Processed Foods (2025)
any more "ethical" tobacco company got out competed. result: blame tobacco companies that survived.

People still smoke. any lies the tobacco companies sold to the public were either so old that few alive heard them, or believed them when they were told.

mpalczewski··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
who is to say that it is great. what makes it so, why is that valuable. Is doing more good than harm. that there is even some inherent value in a "great institution". A bunch of smaller companies would probably be better economically and be more innovative.
mpalczewski··on Google avoids a breakup of its ad tech business
A legitimately rule based legal system is far more beneficial than one that takes sides based on the taste of the day. beneficial for everyone involved. If you want to write "Stan for billionaires", without any sort of reasoning, well, that says more about you.

I do wonder how many people that criticize the renaming, were criticizing Obama when he rename Mt McKinley. What are the principles here? Or is it just names I like vs names I don't like.

mpalczewski··on Guess which of these LLM outputs is watermarked
Interesting. This showed how imperceptible it is at first glance. If they had 100 of these and they showed you if you got it right or wrong and why after each answer instead of making you do all ten in a row, I wonder if I would be able to train myself to detect it. I would figure it would just start to seem like something is a little off. The fact that it is so hard to detect just makes this more insidious.
mpalczewski··on Beyond Recall and the Illusion of Competence
volume and velocity used to stand out, you could get very far with it, and if you had built a career on that(I had), your career is now over or you pivot. Volume and velocity also had it's own quality and over time you did so much that the reps just by themselves got you to the next level. None of that is true anymore. Some skills became important and some skills became useless. this industry has always moved fast and this is just another round of adapt or die.
mpalczewski··on AI boosted homework scores, then exam scores dropped: study
When you get out into the real world, what will matter is how effectively you use AI. When you are done with school, you can take the "exam" using AI. The problem is that teaching is trying to teach skills that are no longer relevant and is always behind what the latest going on in the industry. Every time without fail you got interns, who after two years at stanford would learn more in the 3 months on a google internship than in those two years at stanford. They learn useless shit.

My own experience is that college is fun. You can spend the time wisely, but school stuff, is not what makes you money.

Make student loans dischargeable in bankruptcy and make colleges under write them. The problem will get solved quickly.

mpalczewski··on Semaglutide linked to lower predicted dementia risk
this is exactly right. We've got this society that readily accepts unpleasantness as what you need to do to get ahead(I'll question that but it's beside the point). People regularly accept suffering of all sorts. However, ask someone to eat a boring meal. that's a hard no. So, you've got large parts of society that won't accept that perhaps they shouldn't eat like children.

I've been using grok 4.5 with grok build soon after it came out and dropped claude. primarily for personal code. It communicates better. While that might not sound like a big deal it is. It doesn't give me a wall of text, tells me what I need to know and I'll make the actual decisions. It is very quick as well which means the sessions are far more interactive, I'll be steering it more. I sometimes cross check with codex and sol, but the daily driver is grok for me.

I found it has improved my productivity and output over claude where it felt like claude was giving me work to do. furthermore with the recent claude watermarking thing, I'd rather use grok or openai.

If anyone is curious download grok cli and throw a couple of prompts at it. you'll be surprised.

mpalczewski··on Should you stop cracking your knuckles?
that’s just you lacking skills and making an identity out of being assertive. Rather than calling them skills, you go straight to “doesn’t make you non-assertive”. Rather preferring manipulation because it’s convenient and the only thing you’ve been taught. then normalizing it and the only excuse, you can’t be bothered. sure someone gave up after their 20th time. becasue they wouldn’t do the difficult thing. if you are having the same talk it isn’t working. So what if someone is making noises I don’t like. I don’t spend time with them. with kids you have all sorts of leverage. let them decide if it’s worth while. Yet, people want the kids to like them. As if that’s some standard to uphold. The discomfort of someone not liking the thing you tell them. then go back to lies and manipulation because liking the image that you throw up is better. yeah it’s not unfathomable, it’s common. this is the common person you meet.
mpalczewski··on Should you stop cracking your knuckles?
Leverage, consequences and assertiveness are far better skills to learn when dealing with people including children rather than lies, shame and guilt.
mpalczewski··on Should you stop cracking your knuckles?
Some kids cracked their knuckles. It annoyed some older adults, and instead of telling them to stop they made up some bullshit reason. Classic non assertive behavior. The kids, being kids, believed them. They continued believing them into adulthood. Thus, it became a myth that was passed down.
mpalczewski··on Less Protein, Not More, May Lead to Healthier Aging
that optimal amount likely varies too. by age, sex, percent body fat, and genetics. uk's recommended level is likely way too low to be optimal.
mpalczewski··on Less Protein, Not More, May Lead to Healthier Aging
What a shit article that doesn’t match what it is saying. If you are active you benefit from more protein. If you are not then maybe it’s not good without any reporting on how they even got to the main conclusion except for a citation which may or may not pan out.
