mmiliauskas··on The AI Industry Is Lying to You
I have been burned in the past by siding with people who give kitchen-sink type of arguments. So I would not bet my money on things he says.

That being said. Since COVID there seems to be an ongoing and worsening DOS attack. Everybody who have access to media are lying. And we know they are lying! The craziest part is not only that they are getting away with it (so far at least), but this is becoming embraced, standardized and legalized. Which is fucking crazy.

I like listening to Ed's interviews, mainly because he is DOSing back.

mmiliauskas··on White-collar AI apocalypse narrative is just another bullshit
Yes indeed, there is an ongoing apocalypse for Food & Serving jobs: https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/IHLIDXUSTPFOPRSE. It is one of the most AI-proof professions according to Anthropic.
mmiliauskas··on White-collar AI apocalypse narrative is just another bullshit
Supposedly they could make money, if they wouldn't have to burn a lot on the research. There was an interview with Dario where he stated this and hinted to the fact that a monopoly would not have the research problem, and thus could start making money.
mmiliauskas··on White-collar AI apocalypse narrative is just another bullshit
No technological improvement will make the halting problem decidable.
mmiliauskas··on White-collar AI apocalypse narrative is just another bullshit
Finally. Thank you! This was indeed my point that everyone seem to have missed.
mmiliauskas··on The impact of competition and DeepSeek on Nvidia
This is what I still don't understand, how much of what they claim has been actually replicated? From what I understand the "50x cheaper" inference is coming from their pricing page, but is it actually 50x cheaper than the best open source models?
mmiliauskas··on Online trading platforms down for users
Seeing how many broker related posts are in the top right now, I gather that HN went all in on the "AI trade" :D

mmiliauskas··on Celsius Was Lying
How these people self-defend themselves internally? Usually the answer is simple, along the lines of "oh, just sociopaths"... I mean you have to go to conferences, tweet, interact with people, get articles written about you, basically become famous, even build tech or at least organize that, they often have families, and basically ALL burn at the end, like lose everything.
mmiliauskas··on The Undecidability of BB(748): Understanding Godel’s Incompleteness Theorems [pdf]
Off topic, how is this getting so many upvotes on HN?
mmiliauskas··on LLM Powered Autonomous Agents
Have you seen the JavaScript world?
mmiliauskas··on LLM Powered Autonomous Agents
First we had outsourcing to Indians, now we have ChatGPT. There is almost a rule of thumb, the less you pay, the bigger pile of shit you get. At least with ChatGPT you can vet it first, but with the market being flush with 1-2 year experience devs, globally vetting will be shit too. I honestly wonder, what will start happening to all these LLMs when the training set will get over-represented with cheap, fast, crappy code written by LLMs themselves. I bet "content inbreeding" will become the topic in the future.
mmiliauskas··on Serotonin booster leads to increased functional brain connectivity
Anecdotal, but I had depression episodes on weekly basis for 4 years, then started to microdose mushrooms for completely different reasons, and it is almost 2 years now, when I barely had a single such episode.
mmiliauskas··on Serotonin booster leads to increased functional brain connectivity
This guy monoids.
mmiliauskas··on Major Reddit communities will go dark to protest threat to third-party apps
Reddit is garbage these days anyways. Even communities that are scientific/technical seem to be toxic these days. If you want to get to a comment that has any substance regarding some topic or article, you have to scroll all the way down.
mmiliauskas··on Germany Falls into Recession
It needs a recession first though. Unless they manage to "wash-off" all the idiots, solutions that attempt to walk on hands will persist.
mmiliauskas··on This content is for human consumption only
What do you mean "not particularly expensive", GPT-3 I think costs like $4M to train. And that is just the pre-training part.
mmiliauskas··on Why are lithium prices collapsing?
If media made well adjusted statements, it wouldn't be the media then wouldn't it :D
mmiliauskas··on Why are lithium prices collapsing?
I personally have an impression, that commodity prices are a function of shocks. Gas prices in Europe, uranium prices in mid 2000s, lithium due to sudden EV demand, etc. World then adjusts, and prices "collapse" or rather stabilize. Basically, don't buy commodities when the price is high.
mmiliauskas··on HuggingGPT: Solving AI tasks with ChatGPT and its friends in HuggingFace
Except "this is just" is sprinkled all over NNs, DL and in turn of ChatGPT. Actually they pride themselves on "this is just".

So your argument is probably more accurate for the other camp, or at least as accurate for the other camp as well.

mmiliauskas··on Cryptocurrencies add nothing useful to society, says chip-maker Nvidia
Except for libertarians? Personally, as a libertarian this is all I need -- a win for myself.

mmiliauskas··on SoftBank’s losses reveal Masayoshi Son’s broken business model
Agreed. However, IMO SoftBank is just a symptom, when world's banks are (were) so liberal with the money, you get these type of deformations, zombie companies is another one.

mmiliauskas··on MIT Researchers Just Discovered an AI Mimicking the Brain on Its Own
What is going on with the headlines these days? It is almost as if anything sansationalist can be safely ignored even if it is a decent journal/news paper...
