mlonkibjuyhv··on Can Dell’s 6K monitor beat their 8K monitor?
If you ever try using the KVM feature on for instance a Phillips monitor, you'll realize the Dell feature is a dream!
mlonkibjuyhv··on Tesla engineers were on-site to evaluate the Twitter staff’s code, workers said
This is probably an extreme example, but it is no secret that the majority of people employed in an organization actually does barely anything of value. Price's law comes to mind.
mlonkibjuyhv··on The layoffs at Klarna
Oh all the things I wish they would use their marketing budget on. For instance they still can't correctly compute different VAT classes in their merchant reports.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Admiral Grace Hopper Explains the Nanosecond (1983) [video]
Not if you're making computers.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Ask HN: What If Russia Wins?
I believe a major objective has been to destabilise the EU. The initial reaction at least looks to have been the opposite.
mlonkibjuyhv··on U.K. regulators order Meta to sell Giphy
Or undermining other similar businesses that actually have to make more money than they spend. After said businesses are gone, and the investor cash dries up, what benefit is actually left?
mlonkibjuyhv··on Toyota is quietly pushing Congress to slow the shift to electric vehicles
Well the infrastructure certainly needs to be built, but the solution is straight forward. You just place slow charging stations where the cars are parked overnight.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Restaurant workers quit at record rate
They could probably save even more in taxes by never registering as a business in the first place!
mlonkibjuyhv··on Klarna users are being signed in to random accounts
They what now? That has to be illegal.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Ask HN: How do I find energy to work on hobbies after the work day ends?
You're already doing light exercises which was part of the solution for me.

The next step is a bad one - you actually have to turn the television off, it won't do it for you.

I think also you may be a bit overwhelmed by all the things you feel you should be doing, to the point you don't want to do any of them. So try to forget about them for a while.

Take walks in your neighborhood. Try to notice something that has changed, or is still the same.

In a few weeks maybe the mood will strike to have a cup of tea, and do some reading. Maybe not, maybe next week you'll learn something new.

mlonkibjuyhv··on 50 Years Ago, Sugar Industry Quietly Paid Scientists to Blame Fat (2016)
After "quitting" coffee I'm extremely tired the day after actually drinking coffee.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Review broken products instead of new ones
Those noises meant the product was stripping gears during the first day of use while performing it's intended task.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Review broken products instead of new ones
So I recently went review-shopping for kitchen-aid style mixer appliance. One of the highest rated products contained a paragraph similar to: "Makes cracking noises when running under high load, 9/10". That thing was literally 10 minutes away from being a letterweight, but still highly rated...
mlonkibjuyhv··on Why does Linux have so much trouble sleeping and waking?
My XPS13 9360 or similar has given me a few issues over the years: Occasionally not sleeping, inability to wake WiFi-circuit from low-power mode, sometimes the touchpad would freak out - I think it would latch a multitouch state pressed down.
mlonkibjuyhv··on MasterCard and Visa will stop processing cards for Pornhub
Does this mean that Visa will go the way of the Betamax?

I can't wait to get a slitcard for my new account in the spankbank.

mlonkibjuyhv··on Linux under WSL2 can be leaking
Energy usage will explode! Imagine all the ways to use energy that hasn't been economically viable before. I think the only way that will work out, is if the energy consumption happens off-planet.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Louisiana voter registration portal mysteriously shuts down on Registration Day
Well that is easy. If you succeed it is a violent revolution, if you fail it is domestic terrorism. Nothing new here.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Remove first 300M lines from 700 GB file on 1TB disk
Hey colleague! Of course whatever was used to make those images disappeared some 10 years ago. And the actual mint images are already gone from an earlier disk-crash. THESE images are actually made from systems that have been running at a customer site for years and years.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Nvidia Unveils GeForce RTX 30 Series GPUs
I'm thinking that a debouncer might give rise to some latency when you let go of a button, or at the very least limit the shortest possible keypress. As in the first rising edge is definitely a keypress, but the falling edge is not necessarily a release.
mlonkibjuyhv··on LSD Chemist William Pickard to Be Released from Prison
I wonder if Ergotamine could be an Amine from Ergot. Should probably be abbreviated EA in that case.
mlonkibjuyhv··on We use too many damn modals (2018)
There are so many bad modals in mainstream desktop software. Is there any good reason that an open file dialog completely disables all other interaction? What if I quickly have to task switch, or a piece of info relating to which file i wanna open is just off screen?

A personal favourite is osx Preview and the rename and move file drawer you can get from the status bar of an open file. That guy can't even be moved, and perfectly covers up the portion of a document likely to contain info relevant to a filename.

mlonkibjuyhv··on Avatarify lets users run realtime deepfakes on live video calls
This is a long shot - but are you running on battery while this is happening? Had some weird issues that worked themselves out by plugging in the charger. Probably had to do with power savings and cpu throttling.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Airbnb to halt all marketing, most hiring as losses mount
As a part-time host the worst part about AirBnB handling of this is the full refunds to all guests. They have made it very clear we are in a completely one-sided relationship, and I can't be alone in my reaction to this.
mlonkibjuyhv··on CDC declined to test new coronavirus patient for days, California hospital says
100 false positives for every actual positive is also pretty bad.

mlonkibjuyhv··on Overload functions in Python
I could have sworn I have written range(1,stop) many times in Python. Did I misunderstand your argument, or has my memory gone all sideways?
mlonkibjuyhv··on I ordered a box of boxes from The Packaging Wholesalers via Amazon.ca
Ding ding ding. When I order boxes they come strapped in a bale of the 25, and the box on top has the shipping label etc.
mlonkibjuyhv··on Inertial Locking Box (2013)
Do note that falling at terminal velocity is not free fall.
mlonkibjuyhv··on USB 4.0 [pdf]
I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that most of those devices are awkward eBay crapware?
mlonkibjuyhv··on We Wasted $50K on Google Ads So You Don't Have To (2019)
Please, this whole "Ship products faster with better ..." has got to stop. Just the other day I went looking for some Shopify apps. Every single one described themselves as "Increase conversion, more money, better faster etc" on the bloody search page. Not a single word about what problem they where actually solving until far under the fold on the product page. I've been at this for days, and I still don't know if my needs have a turn-key solution.
