I agree that Skyrim should skip the second screen, but imagine using the iPad as the map from CoD or BF3 - issuing commands to squads via the iPad while they control their characters with normal controllers.
Actually, that is (in my mind) the biggest current one - the sales stuff is bad, but the accounting and operations stuff is Bad.
This is totally real.
The reps phone just "happened" to have LiveTiles setup so that the weather in 2 cities was the first thing on the home screen.
They knew the challenge, and setup their phone do win it as fast as possible. The "Specially customized their phones" comment is that they rigged the phone to be near-unbeatable ahead of time, since they made the challenge.
So, great example!
Shirts don't cause adrenaline responses like that by wearing them.
(I totally agree with the rest of your critique.)
I have been running Lion and do not feel that it makes my computer less of a workhorse. I dont think that ML will make it less of a workhorse. I see this update as adding a bunch of stuff, some of which will be useful to developers, and not removing anything that made me fall in love with my Mac as a dev platform.
On a machine that makes Apple a ton of money from developers (where do you think most iPhone apps are written) will get an OS without a command prompt?
And you can see this happening?

If NameCheap is to be trusted, they had like 80K come in the week before, and another 36K come in with their anti-SOPA coupon code.
Also, you are ignoring the long-term effects of this - most geeks will no longer touch them with a 10 foot pole. They lost some major customers. This is going to actually hurt them.
Mostly, we have ATT, VZW, TMO, and Sprint duking it out over most of the customers, while second tier carriers (regional, usually) and MVNOs clean up the scraps. Not too many are doing much of note in terms of disrupting, although there are a few on the horizon. I think that a lot of it has to do with spectrum - there just isn't enough for upstarts, so they end up riding on the main networks of the big 4, or reselling them as an MVNO.
