misiti3780··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
I think we agree then - Canada makes "a lot" of of wine; it's possible to enjoy drinking it, but take the same grape in Europe and it will be better!!
misiti3780··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
My response to this would be drink more Syrah from Northern Rhone, because there is no producer in Canada that is producing Syrah anywhere near the quality (find me someone trying to claim they are; they cant the soil and climate are too different) . You can say it's subjective, but we both know it's not. I made one exception, Riesling, because their are some good expressions in cold weather.

If you dont believe me go find a bottle of this Chave (https://www.klwines.com/products/details/2010088) and drink them side-by-side.

misiti3780··on Ask HN: What are you reading?
President Lincoln by William Lee Miller about the magnanimity of Lincoln

God's Middle Finger: Into the Lawless Heart of the Sierra Madre by Richard Grant about hiking through cartel-run Mexico alone

misiti3780··on California farmers are struggling to sell grapes as demand for wine drops
Unsurprising. As a US-based wine drinker, California wine feels overpriced and inferior to European imports. Add in Huberman convincing Gen Z that all alcohol is harmful, and the trend makes complete sense.

because it sucks lol

The wine from Canada is not good, unless you like dessert wine/icewine. Maybe there are some exceptions for riesling but it's too cold to grow nice vines there.

It's helped a lot. Agents haven't figured out how to do that yet, or sendgrid, sns, etc are doing the hard work for me.

misiti3780··on Transformers Explained Visually
seconded, the book is very good.

They should focus on fixing claude code, as I just canceled my 200/month subscription for codex because it's quality has degraded so much.

did he fire 8000 people because of AI, or because he over hired in ZIRP like everyone else?
misiti3780··on How I use LLMs to learn complex topics
I think AI is surprisingly good at this. I use voice mode while working out to learn complex topics, follow up with reading, and then go back to ask the LLM more questions. They excel at simplifying complex ideas and have endless patience. One hack I found is telling the LLM to test my knowledge by asking me questions—that gives me a clear idea of what to read next. Overall, they’re a great tool to use alongside traditional learning methods like reading books and working through practice problems.
misiti3780··on Changes at Google DeepMind: Demis Hassabis from CEO to Chair, Jeff Dean departs
I disagree - I will be surprised if google doesnt win the AI race long term. They have the money, the chips, and the ability to attract talent.

misiti3780··on The New AI Superpowers: Focus and Followthrough
im not ripping it off, or at least, i wouldnt consider that. a perfect example is artsy. i like the clean style of the website, and the colors, so if im building a prototype instead of getting the standard shadcn look i get something a bit different. im not building a competing product to artsy, i built a piece of software i run locally to aggregate my taxes everything year.

Pick a website you like, and tell claude to use it for inspiration. I do this all the time and the results are pretty impressive and different than what you get out of the box prompting.
