mikebridgman··on What if you delete the “Program Files” folder in Windows? [video]
Do you have a link? It seems it still requires a 3rd party app.
mikebridgman··on Things I learnt doing stand-up comedy
Where did you take the online course?
mikebridgman··on FOVO: A new 3D rendering technique based on human vision
This is not the same as the Foveated rendering you're thinking of.
mikebridgman··on First detection of the missing half of normal matter in our universe
If you read vanderZwan's analysis in another comment thread, it seems this discovery did not involve dark matter. It was well below 50%, and the baryon particles were always predicted to be there, they were just finally observed directly.
mikebridgman··on Productive on six hours of sleep? You’re deluding yourself, expert says
The article states 7 to 9 hours.
mikebridgman··on Building an analog looping piano
I would start with rpi-buildroot and build up from there. If you have low latency audio questions feel free to email me.

mikebridgman··on Things clients say to Irish graphic designers
Interesting, usually when I submit a duplicate it simply adds a vote to the existing submission. Guess I'll start searching first. Thanks for the heads up.
mikebridgman··on Turn your browser into a notepad with one line
I often do an exercise that I've started referring to as a "brain dump". Sometimes when I feel overwhelmed, for whatever reason, it helps to just simply start typing. I start by just saying whatever is most present on my mind, and each new thought starts on a new line. More often than not I end up drilling down to some kind of inner conflict buried pretty deep in my mind.

What's really amazing is when seemingly unrelated stressful moments in your life are revealed to be from the same source.

mikebridgman··on Commercial freedom
Yes, a Porsche GT3 - number 37 of course!

mikebridgman··on Parse Partners with Twilio and Mailgun for the Release of Cloud Modules
One thing I noticed is that their library is essentially Backbone and Underscore, and their docs state that it has all existing functionality...except I keep finding functions that aren't included, so I still have to load my own version of Backbone.

But you're right: for my next app, I'll probably just use their REST API directly.

mikebridgman··on Apple's tribute to Steve Jobs, one year on.
As a musician, I would view that as the ultimate compliment.
mikebridgman··on Give people an iPhone 4S, tell them it's an iPhone 5
I use a case that holds my credit card and photo ID flush against the back. In addition to protecting my phone, I rarely have to take my wallet with me anymore.
mikebridgman··on 2012 MacBook Pro Powers on By Itself on Rough Roads
Offroading isn't the only source of bumps - turbulence while flying, public transportation, strapped to a motorcycle on backroads...

I think the point is that when the computer is powered off and the lid is closed, there is absolutely no reason it should ever power on by itself.

mikebridgman··on Amazing CSS3 3D popup book
One thing to consider is that their target audience is attendees of the Front-trends conference, a conference specifically for front end developers. I think it's a safe bet that a majority of the traffic will have a compatible browser.
mikebridgman··on Work, Life And Side Projects
Diet has made a huge difference in maintaining my energy levels throughout the day. In the morning I make a vegetable + fruit smoothie, lunch I usually eat plain chili or some form of meat and vegetables. I try to reserve carbs for before/after exercise.

On days when I splurge and eat pizza or some heavy carbs for lunch, I usually crash pretty hard around 2pm. That's why I save lunch beers for Fridays only! :)

mikebridgman··on Work, Life And Side Projects
I recently struggled with balancing these three. When my ex-girlfriend started a mandatory "no computer Sundays", I knew something had to change. Here's what has been working for me: get up early. I wake up at 5am, have a few hours to work on side projects or freelance work, and then I head into work at 8am. After work, I don't touch a computer until the next morning. It's been just over a month and I'm loving the results.
mikebridgman··on Ask HN: How much recurring income do you generate, and from what?
I would love to see a live video example on your landing page. It took me a long time and several clicks to figure it out.
mikebridgman··on Show HN: Fitocracy, an RPG for fitness
I second this. Steve at Nerdfitness.com runs a great blog and community, you should definitely attempt to connect with him.
mikebridgman··on Ask HN: Help me, I fuck around on the Internet too much
I recently discovered dubstep and think it's great work music as well. I would recommend checking out iTunes and Pandora to start finding artists you like, some of my favorite stations are Defiant radio on iTunes and Destroyer.net.
mikebridgman··on Kick start your marketing while being bootstrapped - using SEO
I believe the big three search engines (Google, Yahoo, Bing) have been ignoring meta keywords for years now.

mikebridgman··on Ask HN: Go HTML5 only for a new product?
I wouldn't ignore IE when targeting fortune 5 million. Check out html5boilerplate.com and css3pie.com to help achieve cross browser and backwards compatibility. Good luck with your app!
mikebridgman··on Ask HN: Best book you read in 2010 and briefly why
"Start small, Stay small" by Rob Walling. If you're a solo founder you need to read this, it's gold. An easy read and touches on the surface of just about every facet of a startup. http://www.startupbook.net/
mikebridgman··on Any creative writers here? I'm trying an experiment.
Thanks man, I've received a positive response so far - a few creepy proposals but I guess I'm asking for it :) I'll be on the lookout for your email.
mikebridgman··on Here's how you can opt out from 100 different online ad networks in one go
I feel your pain - there needs to be better tracking of actions. I recently had some major financial documents stolen so I signed up for LifeLock to be safe. I completed the purchase but was followed for days by LifeLock ads, even though I'm now a paying customer. I can imagine it would be pretty simple to remove the cookie once a "goal" was completed at the end of their sales funnel.
mikebridgman··on Ask HN: SEO checklists and what to do next?
Something you might like: WooRank.com will dynamically generate a (basic) SEO checklist based on your site, including suggestions on how to improve certain areas.
