mgh2··on Palantir's Karp – frontier AI labs that are 'trying to drug addict us'
While the argument makes sense, the motivation is rather self-serving: he is afraid frontier models will steal his forward deployed engineering/consultancy model.

Palantir is stealing business from consultancy firms, now frontier models are going to do the same to them. He has to convince executives (main purchase decision makers) by what he does best: politics.

mgh2··on Apple in Talks to Pay Publishers for News Content to Power Siri AI
Nothing about ads, just exposure to a different way/UX of search: Siri AI replaces Google on all iOS devices. I doubt it will have a major impact initially as most people still use browsers, but maybe slowly it will chip away at mobile traffic when people can just swipe down to ask Siri AI.
mgh2··on Apple in Talks to Pay Publishers for News Content to Power Siri AI
I have a hunch this might eventually displace Google as a search engine on iOS that is...because it deals directly with information recency and relevance. While Google is moving ads into Gemini, Siri AI will hopefully get rid of them completely.

mgh2··on The iPhone Upgrade Program is being replaced by Apple Upgrade
This is genius, I am sure the finance department saw the benefits of the leasing model:

1. New customers: lower barrier to entry, try, or switch into the ecosystem.

2. Loyal customers: Upgrade propensity is increased as friction decreases.

3. Innovators: offers options for those who want to try a model, but might later change their minds for something that better suits them.

All this increases exposure and engagement to the brand, which translates to increasing sales and revenue.
