mfatica··on Zhaoxin KX-6000 CPUs Purportedly Match Intel's Core I5-7400 in Performance
I highly doubt one of the most authoritarian governments is going to produce a chip the libre community would use
mfatica··on Slack Is Going Public Without an IPO – How a Direct Listing Works
Images, file uploads, rich text and more all have to be saved as well.
mfatica··on Slack Is Going Public Without an IPO – How a Direct Listing Works
If it's a few pennies for month how are their operating expenses greater than their revenue? Have you even looked at their public filing or are you just making assumptions?
mfatica··on Slack Is Going Public Without an IPO – How a Direct Listing Works
No marginal cost? What do you call operating expenses, AWS for example?
mfatica··on [dead]
FUD. I see no legitimate evidence presented here, the article refutes itself
mfatica··on AMD EPYC “Rome” Server Processors to Feature 8 to 64 Cores
Look at me, I'm the GPU now
mfatica··on AMD EPYC “Rome” Server Processors to Feature 8 to 64 Cores

mfatica··on Apple explores moving 15-30% of production capacity from China
And to thank them they turn around and release huawei phones
mfatica··on US Steel is idling plants, despite tariffs designed to save them
> the one and only industry

Not true at all. Agriculture, semiconductors, consumer electronics, and automotive are examples of other industries tariffs are designed to benefit. Steel is one of many.

mfatica··on The Future of Docker Desktop for Windows
Ah bummer. Well hopefully someday soon the Windows software catches up
mfatica··on The Future of Docker Desktop for Windows
So it sounds like maybe-yes? My use case is machine learning. I have an AMD GPU and tensorflow is supported through ROCm, but ROCm only runs under ubuntu. Currently I dual boot Windows/Ubuntu but would love to be able to stay in Windows.
mfatica··on The Future of Docker Desktop for Windows
Will I have full access to the GPU?
mfatica··on Show HN: Slim – Build and run tiny VMs from Dockerfiles
I avoid any desktop app that uses electron or similar. Electron is still a hog, and most things written in electron have alternatives. I don't use the slack desktop app for this reason, as an example.
mfatica··on Show HN: Slim – Build and run tiny VMs from Dockerfiles
Because I don't want to have to install the massive nodejs runtime just to glue things together.
mfatica··on AMD Ryzen 9 3950X is the fastest processor on Geekbench
That's not true.
mfatica··on '1984' at Seventy: Why We Still Read Orwell
None of them, it's simply misinformation. These people never have any response to actual debate on this topic. How do people think Trump is controlled by Russia when he's been harder on Russia than anyone else. He armed Ukraine, supported sanctions, and threatened to leave NATO because Germany wanted to build a massive new gas pipeline from Russia, thus making them even more dependent on Russia.
mfatica··on Chinese Cash Is Suddenly Toxic in Silicon Valley, Following U.S. Pressure
> You want to be in a position where if your investors ask you for something you can just ignore them.

What reasonable investor would put themselves in that position? They're just going to give their money away and not have any say in what happens?

mfatica··on RAMBleed Attack – Reading Bits in Memory Without Accessing Them
Do AMD processors support it?
mfatica··on RAMBleed Attack – Reading Bits in Memory Without Accessing Them

mfatica··on G20 agrees to push ahead with digital tax
> Amazon has 50% of all e-commerce spend in the US.

So 50% == all?

mfatica··on G20 agrees to push ahead with digital tax
Can you provide some examples there support this claim of a "winner-takes-it-all economy"?
mfatica··on Is it time to treat sugar like smoking?
Banning advertising of something is a bit different than banning the thing itself
mfatica··on Huawei Accused of Technology Theft
I'm not stealing your TV, I'm just borrowing and keeping it!
mfatica··on Huawei Accused of Technology Theft
Just because someone is a better salesman than you doesn't give you the right to break the law what kind of insane rational is that
mfatica··on Stadia Founder's Edition
Makes sense, I went to their site to look more in depth and it seems with the Pro subscription you get some free games periodically and also a discount on select titles. That feels like a good middle ground actually
mfatica··on Stadia Founder's Edition
Because the Google brand is still orders of magnitude more recognized than Alphabet especially in mass market. I would wager a decent chunk of their target audience doesn't even know what Alphabet is
mfatica··on Stadia Founder's Edition
Yeah agreed, I was expecting streaming to be streaming - I don't purchase individual titles on Netflix. Maybe if it was transferable to PC or another platform I'd be more open to it.
mfatica··on If Seeing the World Helps Ruin It, Should We Stay Home?
Not sure what methodology you follow, but freedom means freedom. If I don't care to leave a better world than that's my right. It doesn't make me a good person but freedom is freedom.
mfatica··on If Seeing the World Helps Ruin It, Should We Stay Home?
If they have proper right to those resources then they certainly can consume them however they want.
mfatica··on If Seeing the World Helps Ruin It, Should We Stay Home?
> but what is preventing us from doing this generally

The fact that people don't actually want to do that? People are free to live their lives the way they want. There's no reason to pile most people into cities just "because cars"
