I doubt the skill problem. Building a deb or rpm is trivial with fpm. Anecdotal but from past experience at a tiny startup delivering dev-tools we found our pipeline to get people to use our tool was significantly better when we just had them curl|bash a script.

Getting people to use your junk is more important than doing it "The Right Way".

Background check process will uncover it. If you're not upfront with it early in the process it will come up in background check and usually disqualify you.

Edit: background checks are standard practice for employees and contractors usually.

How is this any worse than downloading a random tarball and running a makefile blindly or installing a deb with god knows what pre or post scripts exist.

Excuse me for being a bit of a moron here, but why do we spend so much time, energy, and money trying to solve these weird mathematical questions? What's the practical application of any of this that can justify the cost?

My first job ever I befriended one of the senior sales guys at an after work drinking event. We built software that integrated into and with a range of embedded devices of which many were medical. He was one of the guys that worked closely with our EMEA customers who were notoriously slow to sign.

Three years later he drove in to the office lot with a brand new Porsche 911 which was a portion of his commission for closing the deal after something insane like 33 months.

He was happy to have that deal done.

It may never return if biz travel suddenly becomes unnecessary because companies think they go do a lot of previously in-person stuff via video call.

I've done a ton of work with both Maven and Gradle and I feel like eventually everyone just ends up back to wanting Maven.

The problem with Gradle is that it's flexibility is... dangerous and without some constraint can quickly lead to a lot of pain.

The Go module system is a debacle. It's not intuitive and it's badly broken right now.

Alternatively its a disguised reduction in workforce. Doesnt impact the stock like a layoff but probably has a non-negligible impact culling some employees from the herd.

I agree with the premise though its easy to validate if these tools are sending data to a remote dest with the network activity developer tool in any of the major browsers.

No disagreement from me, this is how our country was supposed to operate.

It was a feature until Congress gave in and allowed the scope and usage of executive orders to grow thus allowing the president to bypass congress in a lot of cases. Now congress basically acts as a defensive block to allow a president to enact laws err executive orders at will.
