manbart··on Trump will kill CHIPS Act by gutting NIST employees
Don't worry, at the rate the US is squandering it's political, cultural and economic capitol, the rest of the world won't need to care what the US thinks in a few months.
manbart··on 2023 IG Report about Social Security Numberholders Age 100 or older [pdf]
It's addressed in a foot note:

>At the time of our review, approximately 44,000 of the 18.9 million number holders were receiving SSA payments.

It was mentioned earlier in the article there are 531 million SSN in the system total.

manbart··on 20k federal workers take "buyout" so far, official says
Doubt it... You'd be a fool to think you'd actually get the money
manbart··on CIA now favors lab leak theory to explain Covid's origins
What is clear is that Ratcliff wants the lab leak theory to be true
manbart··on Utah War Wikipedia article incorporates text from a large language model
The warning box just raises more questions for me... How did they know it had LLM generated text? Did they remove the LLM generated text? If yes, why is the box still there?
manbart··on OpenAI’s board, paraphrased: ‘All we need is unimaginable sums of money’
I'm pretty sure 3) is Meta's strategy currently
manbart··on SQLite changed temp file prefix after McAfee users called devs to complain (2006)
Looks like most links are about antivirus software or Firefox. So it does seem to be working; people are getting pointed to the buggy application code actually causing their problem and not the SQLite project itself
manbart··on Organic Maps: Offline Hike, Bike, Trails and Navigation
I've been impressed with this on LineageOS
manbart··on Texas Court Blocks Treasury from Enforcing Corporate Transparency Act
Dissapointing but not surprising
manbart··on Hey Apple Fix your phones
You should write a letter to Tim Apple.
manbart··on Algol-68 seemed like a good idea
There is a modern implementation if you feel like checking it out firsthand

manbart··on Cloaca: A Concurrent Hardware GC for Non-Strict Functional Languages
That is definately one of the names of all time.
manbart··on The Little Tech Agenda
The bullshit agenda.
manbart··on Federal judge rules NLRB may be unconstitutional [pdf]
Republicans seem to really want a king
manbart··on What we know about microdosing candy illnesses as death investigation underway
I'm pretty sure this product is in the "gray market" at best. Selling 4-aco-dmt for human consumption would seem to violate the Analogue Act and thus be felony in USA. I'm sure there are plenty of noncriminal violations regarding supplement labeling there too
manbart··on The Actual OSI Model
Thank you! I'm always felt similar about the OSI model, can't it just die already?

Also, aside from LDAP and x509 I think SNMP came from OSI too

manbart··on Motorola spoiled a good budget phone with bloatware
This is why I won't get a phone that isn't supported by LineageOS
manbart··on Ask HN: You ran into some money, what tech stuff are you buying?
I would get something off the hardware compatibility list for Asteroid OS (Linux for smart watches).

https://asteroidos.org/

manbart··on Ask HN: What technologies are you using for new projects?
Tcl and SGML
manbart··on AVX2 intrinsics for Arrays.sort methods (int, float arrays)
Does this mean that old x86 CPUs without AVX won't be able to run JVM anymore?
manbart··on Cloud engineer gets 2 years for wiping ex-employer's code repos
>Inserted 'taunts' in the code, including references to "grok"

This line gave me a chuckle

manbart··on YAMLScript – Program in YAML
I can't tell if this is supposed to be a joke, or they are really trying to be the XSLT of the 2020's. At any rate, they should add jq path expressions or similar
manbart··on Google Bans 'Downloader' Again Following Markscan DMCA Notice
I wonder if anyone has sued for damages resulting from frivolous DMCA takedown requests? Seems like there should be some consequences for filing these in bad faith
manbart··on California Personalized License Plate Requests Flagged for Review 2015-2016
What planet are these reviewers from?
manbart··on Meta disables Jill Stein's Instagram account
I'm not sure I understand the situation based off the linked post. I get the part that Meta won't let her create a duplicate, but what happened to her original account? Was her original account banned, or did she just lose her password or something?
manbart··on Ventana's 192-Core RISC-V CPU Takes Aim at AMD Epyc Genoa and Bergamo
I'll believe it when I see it. I'd like to see it happen though
manbart··on History of Tcl
It's still around

https://sourceforge.net/projects/naviserver/files/naviserver...

Latest release is last month

manbart··on Using a LoRa SDXL Fine-Tuned on IKEA Diagrams
These are hilarious. I especially enjoyed 'astral projection'
manbart··on Evolving ArangoDB's Licensing Model for a Sustainable Future
100GB per cluster in the free version? May as well just run SQLite on a single server for a dataset that size
manbart··on Supermicro at 30: From Designing AI Chips to Selling AI Systems
I like that the article actually used the word "embiggen" in context. Looks like it's officially cromulent now.

Supermicro has always been a solid choice in my opinion
