How much do you think emails cost? That number is just so far off?
But besides that, running SES is also quite a bit cheaper than SOTA ai models with high demand (and comparatively) no competition. And quite a bit more pressure to make money (soon).
All I'm seeing is they got their hands on the domain, which can be (and was in the past) just part of whatever settlement they agreed on, and the game press spinned that into "Nintendo bought Ryujinx".
Does not feel like it paid off for them. But SpacetimeDB might of course not be the reason for that.
Being owned by Google probably would help in those regards too now.
Even if training gets way cheaper or even if it stays as expensive but more money gets thrown at it, you'll still run into the issue of having no/less data to train on?
Doesn't seem to be a duplicate, so dang might unflag it and remove the filter if he sees the thread.
Googling and extracting the right information efficiently is clearly a skill, and people do use it in wildly (and often inefficient/bad) ways. That might be less of an issue with your average HN user, but in the real world, people are bad at using Google.
So unlikely has anything to do with a recent ban.

And they did apologize for it, I think.
Also, megathreads are what you do when you want a topic to die on a subreddit. Especially now where pinned threads even have less visibility. Their obviously bad faith poll after ending their "no moderation experiment" after not even two days (while announcing it for a week), also speaks a different language.
Probably slightly biased summary: https://www.reddit.com/r/SubredditDrama/comments/1g4pr8f/wor...
Yes, I'm sure some reddit users went too far in DMs (it's reddit...), but ultimately,
- the moderators of the subreddit clearly wanted to suppress that topic.
- one (the remaining one) works for Matt, and thinks the whole thing is a nothingburger (https://www.reddit.com/r/Wordpress/comments/1fwvs5z/comment/...)
- the creator of the subreddit still seemed completely pro-Matt and also friendly with him
That said, bluesix seemed like a very helpful mod, so, still not great to see them delete their account. And also, some users are for sure in it just for the blood.
The obvious move on moderation side would've been to allow big news around that "drama" to have their own threads, to remove duplicates and have random opinion tweets, blog posts & influencer's thoughts in the megathread / a pinned comment on each of the "big news'" threads.
This is what most mods who wouldn't want to suppress the topic but keep the sub somewhat clean would've done. For some reason, that wasn't even up for discussion.
It was either a "we go on strike and stop moderating" (which ended quickly when it didn't result in the chaos they anticipated), megathread or complete ban of the topic for them.
Same for Directus.
But again, not a 1-to-1 WP replacement.
But I'm sure they're already debating internally how feasible a fork is and if it makes sense for their business.
So, while saying most games is true, it's still a good junk of players that do play CPU bound games.
And ClassicPress is the fork of Gutenberg deniers who think a, now, below-average WYSIWYG editor is the way... or...
all the alternative "Page Builders", which are in itself a multi million dollar business, and are horrible usability & code-wise. The two newer big ones, Brick and Breakdance seem fine, but are much more complete website builders than editors. And also something that you don't want end-users to touch.
Don't see that fork being the future.
FreeWP seems like a completely meritless attempt at a fork / initiative. Potentially even just an attempt by "Vinny" to move himself into the spotlight. And the WordPress community, for a big part, looks still very novice and in-experienced and a decent junk of community members might fall for this and put at least some (and more than they should) eggs into that basket.
Matt just seems to troll and knows that "FreeWP" is no competition at all. And continues on his path of eccentric and very weird behavior.
But, smart on the publishers to take (even more) control of the "community projects" this way.
Also, isn't Microsoft getting paid back 75% of the profits first, up to their investment, so $13 billion and then 49% for another ~100 billion?
E.g., according to a quick google search, a FIFA Mobile and a Garena Free Fire has about the same amount of downloads in 2022. (Both in the top 10.)
Employees are also not allowed to discuss their salaries with each other, their employee handbook was leaked earlier this year by a disgruntled ex employee and is out there.
Them being strict about stopping employees from "competing" is also something they talked about openly in the past. (And there were also some shots fired by ex employees.)
Being pro unions... unless it is in his own companies.
Warranty on products... unless it's his own products.
His employees are seemingly pretty underpaid too and that while having some of the strictest rules around letting them build their own online presence of "youtube / new media companies" out there. Tbf, on the last point, I'm not sure if he ever criticized other companies for underpaying their employees in the past.
And I'm not alone either, looking at Reddit & Discord in the past.
Made me also switch away again recently. Would love to see them focus more on that instead of all those gimmicks. (Actually expected that before seeing them ship 1.0.)
Also, the way they handle extensions and especially the recent changes getting rid of the extension bar top right are/were also not great.
