I personally feel 'cord getting caught
is the real motivation behind killing the jack. Every time I've dropped my iPhones since the first one came out, it was because the headphone cable got caught on something and yanked the phone out of my hand or pocket. I am unwilling to use bluetooth as the signal cuts out, batteries are always dead and occasional pairing difficulties. When my iPhone SE dies...(my 9th iPhone) I will likely have to switch to an Android.
I find all google products difficult to use or figure out what the are doing. Many things are non-obvious and not easily discoverable. Not Snapchat bad, but pretty bad.
I agree, it doesn't really stick until you're working with it and running into/solving issues. I work with a young guy who is interested in programming and he was asking about html/css, python, test driven development, git, and then docker... I mean, holy crap what a tangled mess. Anyway, I gave him a VBA book and a couple of ideas for projects to solve business problems and he's been having a wonderful time. I'll show him git next week maybe...
Personally, I feel it takes a certain kind of person to want to program. I never really understood this push to have everyone learn to code... maybe if just to get them to stop using their computers like a type writer and realize they're capable of more.
Second hand knowledge, but I seem to think it was free for Germans, and they're expected to stay in the country something like 4 years after finishing.
I think you're going to be most happy running your own show.. I've seen a lot of this anyway. Open plan because the boss wants to see everyone in one spot the 3 hours he is in per year. Focus unattainable due to noise/talking. Resistance to WFH arrangements. Train young people so we can have redundancy...Old guy quits and now you have 4 people doing what 1 used to, 3 of which are looking to quit because face it, they don't want to work hard ;) Good luck my friend.
How they make the sausage doesn't really seem appropriate for job descriptions to me... but as far as filling roles goes I find that more often than not the people writing the job descriptions simply have a poor understanding of the role and the requirements needed to ensure success in that role.
I adapted to the dvorak layout without too much trouble... but I often have to type on other people's keyboards which was quite difficult to manage cognitively... so I had to revert. Good luck though, hope you find some relief.
Wow, I've never seen the box before! Good job saving it all these years. You probably should have gone through it before trying to power it all on... look for signs of arcing in the monitor... and yeah, replace blown/leaky caps everywhere... if not all of the good ones too.. And make sure the power is stable and clean before connecting it up/trying again.
This "should last as long as possible" was already assumed... and frankly kind of insulting after buying apple products for many years. And we do expect to be able to repair... I took my iPhone 6 to apple because the battery was done. They "tested" it and said it was fine. I paid a third party to replace it since apple would not. Phone was fixed... couple weeks later apple admitted there were battery problems and were handing out cheap replacements.
I would be interested to know if there are any free alternatives to g-suite/custom domain email. I'm not sure what Inbox was, but I've been using gmail/g-suite for many years without any real issues. I'm only using it because it's been free, however the free edition is no longer available to new signups. I've been recommending FastMail or Office 365 depending on who's asking me for advice, and I really would like to have a free option as many people I talk to are non-profit, charity, or simply resource limited.
I don't feel this criticism is warranted. The spoken portion that went along with the unveiling of this watch face was admitting this was ridiculously trying to show all the measurements/indicators possible to make the 'ultimate sports watch'... at least, that's how I interpreted it.
I do this. What brought it on for me wasn't really phone addiction, but the notifications were seriously interrupting music playback, or typing email/etc.
So, now if someone calls it rings. If I get a text, it vibrates. No visual banners/etc. Phone stays in my pocket most of the time, battery has lots left by end of day :) good luck people...
I was sure if I wanted the old design I had to buy it before the next iPhone. But yeah, standing still isn't really a good look for a tech company... Just because I don't want to use my face as a password or talk to a virtual assistant, or hold a phone that slips out of my hand and smashes on the ground due to rounded edges doesn't mean the iPhone X/XS/XR aren't great phones....
