lelf··on Apple kills the non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro
I honestly don’t understand how an infinitely and easy customisable high-resolution million-colour second display, supporting multi-touch gestures, could be called useless by the majority of commenters on the site called Hacker News.
lelf··on Hub: Use GitHub from the Command Line
I recently learned that you can do

  git fetch origin pull/⟨PR id⟩/head:pr-⟨PR id⟩ && git checkout pr-⟨PR id⟩
(but hub is nicer of course)

> really love to know who thinks it’s in any way good.

I think it’s good. Install BetterTouchTool (or analog) and the touchbar becomes infinitely-customisable multi-touch fn-keys row. The only missing thing is any tactile feedback (although BetterTouchTool can “simulate” it using touchpad’s linear motor).

lelf··on Math.Round opens the browser print dialog
You cannot “window.print” in a Float32→Float32 function. It just won’t compile.
lelf··on Comparing the Same Project in Rust, Haskell, C++, Python, Scala and OCaml
Yes. Zero to working compiler on vanilla MacBook Pro.
lelf··on Comparing the Same Project in Rust, Haskell, C++, Python, Scala and OCaml
I find compilation times very appealing.

D compiler can compile itself in under 5s (+ 10s for stdlib).

lelf··on Formatting floating point numbers
“Something in the middle” could be an option. E. g. (in C)

  > printf ("%a\n", M_PI);
  0x1.921fb54442d18p+1

  > printf ("%a\n", 42.0);
  0x1.5p+5
lelf··on Unicode programming, with examples in C
Only libucidata is big.

Reason — tons of data. Contrary to what other commenters said, it’s not (only) Unicode properties (they are tiny), but a lot more: from rules to spelling out the numerics, to transliteration, collation, to word/sentence segmentation (some of which are absolutely non-trivial and sometimes require dictionaries of special cases).

There is a good documentary about that https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_World_According_to_Monsant...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JJiIuQyStr4

The fuzz is absolutely warranted.

Added: Monsanto licenses you seeds, you are not even allowed to grow them once (i. e. you are not allowed to use next-generation seeds). And GM plants might be more adapted, and start displace the “natural” ones. And they are all owned by Monsanto.

lelf··on Bees can link symbols to numbers, study finds
But where is the line between a “learned lookup-table” and “actually doing arithmetic”?

Especially considering how numbers were presented to bees = number of shapes in a square (look at the second paper in my other comment).

Rendeting is done in WebKit [on macOS], that’s correct.

But it’s already a lot more than a “Webkit shell”, e. g. see https://github.com/atlas-engineer/next/blob/master/source/re...
