ldng··on US Administration announces 34% tariffs on China, 20% on EU
Really curious on how it will blow-back on Americans. Because, make no mistakes, it will.
ldng··on Trump Announces Reciprocal Tariffs
It's "discounted" xD I think a lot of Americans don't fully realize what they're getting into. He thinks he can bully the world without consequence ? Oh boy he's so wrong ...
ldng··on Wikipedia is struggling with voracious AI bot crawlers
Maybe they should just ... not "vibe-code" at all then ?
ldng··on Wikipedia is struggling with voracious AI bot crawlers
That is not an excuse. Wikipedia isn't just any site.
ldng··on The flaws in Musk's Mars mission
They all pretend to want to go to Mars when they're actually aiming for the Belt. Oyedeng inyalowda, oye beltalowda.
ldng··on Are tariffs bad for growth? Yes, say 5 decades of data from 150 countries (2020)
There science there in the URL : the MAGAs don't care about that.
ldng··on A bold proposal to build the 'EuroStack'
I will never understand why Europeans keep downplaying their assets. There already are European alternatives, they're just shunned more often then not.
ldng··on Marine Le Pen banned from running in 2027 and given four-year sentence
They STOLE 4 millions for f-sake ! AND it's not even the first time; they got away easy until this time.

They also have been frothing hard for decades about the leniency of the courts and how utterly honest they were compared to the others ... I guess its only relevant as long as they're not concerned. Incredible.

The law has been applied fair and square. Period.

ldng··on I won't connect my dishwasher to your cloud
Why ?! Audio diagnostic is passive and (I suppose/hope) associated with a button (?).

Can we stop putting obligatory (hackable) active network devices everywhere ?

ldng··on Password reuse is rampant: nearly half of observed user logins are compromised
Yes. Especially with that government...
ldng··on Macron to open debate on extending French nuclear protection to European allies
We have ITAR-free Rafale. And for better or worse, we don't "vendor lock-in" our planes.
ldng··on Macron to open debate on extending French nuclear protection to European allies
It's one thing to want to withdraw orderly, it's another to treacherously backstab your allies.
ldng··on Apple M3 Ultra
Well, a shame for Apple, a lot of the rest of the world is going to boycott american products after such level of treacherousness.
ldng··on Show HN: Cot: a Rust web framework for lazy developers
Async is not "definitively a need". It's a fad from browser JS where it is actually needed. Async would not have solved your issue, just delayed it until OOM and that would have make debugging it harder. Case in point.
ldng··on Show HN: Cot: a Rust web framework for lazy developers
I would love a Django clone in Rust that does NOT do async. Dead simple to debug instead of performance oriented.
ldng··on Federal data is disappearing. On Thursday, meet the teams working to rescue it
But only the public data is salvageable. I can't imagine the extent of the internal damage. "Interesting" lesson on how painless and deadpan digital autodafé are..

Scary how fast USA is sinking into dark ages.

ldng··on Managing Secrets in Docker Compose – A Developer's Guide
That is very debatable. It depends on ones assessment on the risk of passively leaking a file on a poorly cleaned up "cloud" disk is lower or higher from an actual intruder getting access to environment variable.
ldng··on IsMyXFeedFucked – Analyze How Your X Feed's Impacting You
Just. Quit. It.
ldng··on Nvidia CEO Defends RTX 5090's High Price
Of course he does. Happy monopoly.
ldng··on Why we use our own hardware
Linux admin still exists. Except that they are better paid than ever at cloud provider. What you're describing is more payroll flexibility than technical.
ldng··on PyTorch 101: Understanding Graphs, Automatic Differentiation and Autograd
Original article : https://www.jianshu.com/p/038236a34316

(edit: or not; not sure which one is the source)

ldng··on PyPI now supports digital attestations
So, let me get this clear, after PyPA enshittifying the package expérience for more than a decade, and now mess has been clean by uv, the security FUD (and let not be naive here, the power struggle) move onto enshittifying PyPI and make Python user miserable for a decade more ?
ldng··on Show HN: Greenmask 0.2 – Database anonymization tool
Any generation tool you suggest check-in out?
ldng··on U.S. Athletes Are Taking Full Advantage of Free Healthcare in Olympic Village
BUT. It can be computed, and economist have done so. The US free healthcare market, all agglomerated and counted for, actually cost more than the so called awful French Healthcare (despite the fact that it has been undermined by politicians with vested interests ...)

And we're not even talking about hidden costs when the labour get sick and contaminate their co-worker or when it takes more time to recover because labour has poorly treated.

Ideology is one thing, reality another. Some market are not meant to be free. Period.

ldng··on Is a 'slow' swimming pool impeding world records?
Supposedly, all the Paris 2024 new accommodation were designed with re-usability for the general public after the Olympics. Is it possible that had an impact the swimming pool on design choices ? Put differently, are performance design at odd with more general/accessible design in the case of a swimming pool ?
ldng··on A look at search engines with their own indexes (2021)
Perfect, localized search is the most annoying thing there is.
ldng··on Patrick Breyer and Pirate Party Lose EU Parliament Seats
Be serious 2 seconds ! They can't afford the housing you're referring to anyway and the city economy would shrink too and then you'd complain about that...
ldng··on Nintendo blitzes GitHub with over 8k emulator-related DMCA takedowns
Yeah... presumed guilty
ldng··on Microsoft bans U.S. police from using enterprise AI tool for facial recognition
Wait, is that a decision a company is allowed to make ? Is it the beginning of cyberpunk ?

Feels like they're just protecting their ass while keeping overselling their product.

Not that law enforcement should use AI irresponsibly and without boundaries, but I'm not sure it is the responsibility of a company to make that kind of call.

ldng··on Work begins on a $12B high-speed rail line between Las Vegas and Los Angeles
In France, it depends a lot on the lines : Paris-Lyon has average of 270 km/h (167 mph); Paris-Bordeaux clock at around 300 km/h (186 mph) while Paris-Brest is more at 200 (124 mph). It is interesting to note that it often seems ti correlate to the age of the line, with Paris-Bordeaux being the most recent.
