kylixz··on Ask HN: Who is hiring? (July 2026)
Ditto | Engineering & Product | Remote (US: Atlanta, Austin, SF, Seattle) + APAC | Full-time https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/ditto

https://docs.ditto.live/home/about-ditto

I've been obsessed with CRDTs since I first saw them at Strange Loop years ago, and I still can't quite believe I now get to work on them for a living — in some of the most challenging environments there are: disconnected, degraded, contested, out where the cloud isn't. If that's your kind of problem, come build with us.

Ditto is the edge-native data platform that keeps distributed systems in sync when the network doesn't cooperate — an offline-first, CRDT-based layer syncing any device (phone, vehicle, sensor, server) over Bluetooth LE, P2P Wi-Fi, LAN, and tactical radio, with or without connectivity. Same core, commercial to defense; operationally deployed and network-agnostic. The problems are the fun kind: conflict-free replication with no server and no synchronized clock, multi-transport routing that never drops the connection, moving a coherent picture over links as thin as an HF radio shot, and human-in-the-loop robotics/autonomy where a detection may have to be physically carried by a moving node. Concept to field in days, not months.

Most roles are open to anyone authorized to work in the U.S.; Public Sector and forward-deployed roles require U.S. person status. Remote in the U.S. (hubs: Atlanta, Austin, SF, Seattle) unless noted.

Product — Senior PM: Cloud Database & Integrations; Cloud Infrastructure & Platform

Engineering — Engineering Manager, Data Sync

Public Sector (U.S. persons) — Senior SWE: Autonomy · Systems FDE · Portal (ATL/remote) · FDE (SF, on-site); SWE, Public Sector Application

Core Technologies — Senior SWE: Rust · Data Sync · Database · Networking · Bluetooth · React Native SDK · Android (ATL)

Cloud Services — Senior SWE, Cloud (x2)

Infrastructure — Staff SWE, Platform; Senior Platform Engineer, Operator; Senior SRE; Senior SRE, APAC (remote)

kylixz··on Intel Gaudi 3 AI Accelerator
This is a bit snarky — but will Intel actually keep this product line alive for more than a few years? Having been bitten by building products around some of their non-x86 offerings where they killed good IP off and then failed to support it… I’m skeptical.

I truly do hope it is successful so we can have some alternative accelerators.

There are two kinds of drone companies on the market. DJI and everyone else you haven't heard of. If you want to change that, particularly in the US, check us out. We are creating a palm-sized, autonomous drones to help de-escalate dangerous situations.

If ROS2, sUAS, GTSAM, SolidWorks, aerospace, hard realtime systems, and drones are things you're familiar with or interested in, let's chat. Shipped a consumer product in volume? Let's chat.

Maybe you're working an another UAS/Drone company that's larger and want to flex your brain to have more direct impact and ownership of your creations. Apply below and mention HackerNews.

Let's make drones more affordable and accessible to public safety, humanitarian, and defense applications.

- Position can be 100% remote (US Only). Relocation to San Antonio, TX would be awesome.

- We do in person meetings when needed. We are just 14 people.

- We're a startup, but we have funding and contracts. We're all mid-career so we want a sustainable, mature, diverse working environment.

- This position will involve defense work. However, we will never build drones that can harm people.

kylixz··on Raise less, build more
I would love to pick your brain if you have some time. Recently founded robotics company trying to navigate predictable success.
kylixz··on 80% of bosses say they regret earlier return-to-office plans
I did software work for most of my career and am a huge fan of remote and hybrid arrangements.

But having started a hardware robotics company… it does seem more difficult to run the team remotely. When we get together in person, everything moves faster. We have more equipment. EEs can fix things on the spot. Perception engineers can perceive their algorithm’s behavior in front of their face. We can mitigate safety concerns with proper protections.

I wish we could all be remote, but I think the team does need a component of hybrid to pool resources and move faster. I only say this as there’s a lot of “C-suite bad they just want to micromanage” and I feel like it’s not that simple for many businesses.

kylixz··on Ask HN: Whatever happened to the “coming wave” of delivery drones?
Definitely a fan of your work at Manna, Bobby.

Love the hardware design and the no-nonsense "get it done" with continuous drone operations in Europe. Things for us to aspire towards as another drone (non-delivery) company.

kylixz··on Ask HN: Whatever happened to the “coming wave” of delivery drones?
There are some companies/efforts in the space:

https://www.manna.aero/ https://www.flyzipline.com/ https://wing.com/ https://corporate.walmart.com/newsroom/2022/05/24/were-bring...

Several more out there still from the initial bust.

Regulations make it challenging for beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) autonomous delivery, particularly in the US with the FAA. Also, it's a hard problem in autonomy to nail it every time despite advancements. Less than 1% failure is still potentially catastrophic when you're carrying a few pounds of lithium batteries above people's backyards.

kylixz··on Ask HN: Any hardware startups here?
The smaller unit we are building will have some different payload configs. We aren’t going for glass breakers and such based on feedback and what is most popular on the market (DJI). We want these to help mitigate the dangerous environments in public safety and be disposable. Like a frisbee. Shoot me an email! Happy to chat more.

kylixz··on Things I wish I’d known before fulltime RVing (2017)
I did this for about 2 years across the United States. If you’re employed, make sure your manager is supportive/already remote friendly.

Get good internet. I found Verizon to be the best for cellular and this was before Starlink Mobile was available. Get a directional cellular antenna and mount (not a repeater/amplifier) and learn how to point the antenna at towers if you plan to do any “boondocking” out in the west of the US. Otherwise, everywhere else these days likely has internet.

Compost Toilet is a win in my book. Very little maintenance and no nasty tanks to deal with. But, it’s not for everyone.

Decide if you need showers in your wheeled home or not. That drives the cost of your rig significantly. Most RVs are absolute trash for quality south of $50k.

kylixz··on Apple Vision Pro: Apple’s first spatial computer
I am most intrigued by the use of the 6x Sony IMX418 which seems to be brilliant for daisy-chaining cameras over MIPI lines in such a small package even if the sensor is older. Anyone else have experience with these?
kylixz··on Solid state active cooling on a Mini PC
What model Dell? Satisfied? We’ve tried some other Linux friendly brands and the quality control has been less than stellar.
