krisneuharth··on Flight rules for Git – What to do when things go wrong
I really like the idea of "flight rules" to document common problems and codify how to resolve them. Does anyone know of any other good examples similar to this?
krisneuharth··on Ask HN: How did you get your first freelance project?
I have a IFTTT script that crawls Craigslist for specific keywords and then it emails me the hits. Craigslist generally has a low signal to noise ratio, but I have landed a few things from there.

krisneuharth··on Ubuntu 12.10 Now Available
Just upgraded. If anyone is running the open AMD/ATI drivers and the UI becomes slow and unusable you should try to install the proprietary drivers. It made the UI snappy again because everything seems to require hardware acceleration now.
krisneuharth··on Ask HN: What books are you reading right now?
James Bond books by Ian Fleming
krisneuharth··on Did Blowing Into The NES Cartridge Really Work?
I always found that if blowing no longer worked, that I could plug it into the Game Genie loader and it would usually work. I suspect because the fit into the Genie was much tighter and the pins were less worn or corroded.
krisneuharth··on Xkcd: Click and Drag
Excellent! I feel like Randall is getting closer to producing an actual game with his worlds and characters. I look forward to what he has in store for us in the future.

I think Vooza already tried this.

krisneuharth··on The Problem With Client-Side Analytics
Totally off topic but there is a bug in the PHP code example:

should be:

echo "<script src=\"http://example.com/analytics.js?ts=$ts&r=$r&ds=$ds\&...;

krisneuharth··on Amazon will end affiliate program in California if new law passes
I received notice today from 4 of my affiliate programs that they are terminating their programs in California. I expect the remaining few to notify me soon enough. I may end up registering again with these program using an Oregon address if I feel like my site is something I still want to work on if this goes down the way it is looking.

krisneuharth··on Ask HN: What are some web apps that use the .io extension

krisneuharth··on Update on Gondor Hosting
Like others have said, Djangy announcing their closure last week has people thinking about the future of Django hosting solutions. I was very disappointed to learn of this as I had just started a new site there and after weeks of frustrating hiccups with the service it had actually just started to work well. I had plans to move several other production sites there so any news in the Django front is highly pertinent to me and others in the same boat.

krisneuharth··on Development Tools for Scala Language

That's cool. If you had any interest in a banner exchange let me know. One of my several side projects is a climbing related site. Perhaps we can help each other out? If you have any interest hit me up at the e-mail in my profile.
krisneuharth··on Thrutched, One month later
As one of your unique daily visitors I say thanks for making this. I have passed it on to all my climbing friends and posted it on Facebook. I like the clean interface and high quality content thus far. Are you planning to throw ads on this at some point?

krisneuharth··on [dead]
You could do this in two pitches but most people have 60 meter ropes these days which is 196.8 feet. On the way down you would have to go to a rap anchor about half way, pull the rope down to you, re-anchor the rope, and rappel again. When rappelling best practice is to use the double rope rappel, plus it is easier to get the rope back down once you are on the ground.
krisneuharth··on My Start-Up: 3000 unique users a day, only 3 offers?
Have you considered the possibility that your awful attitude, inflated sense of entitlement, over-attachment to a poor implementation of an unfocused idea, etc. are contributing to your lack of success finding this all important fabled VC money? Let that sink in.

Now, I gave you encouragement and a legitimate suggestion on how to take what you have and spin it into something that would probably generate some money. Others have done the same in this thread. You responded with a delusional claim that people should provide money for you just because your idea "might" pay off big. There is plenty of anecdotal evidence on HN that speculative words like "might" are pretty worthless. If you think your idea is that good, commit to it, prove us all wrong.

It is however counter productive to complain to fellow HNers, who are most sympathetic to the frustrations of trying to build products people want, about some bias against you because no one wants to give you jobs or money for your talents. That is not how it works.

krisneuharth··on My Start-Up: 3000 unique users a day, only 3 offers?
What if you compiled all of this scraped data and made microsites for each category? I think your idea is interesting but so far the implementation is off-putting. You could do all sorts of organic SEO tweaks and then put some ads on the pages for a revenue stream.

Don't give up, but also don't expect people to throw money at you for making something. If that were true, everyone on HN would be millionaires.
