kneel··on Claude Code users hitting usage limits 'way faster than expected'
I asked it to complete ONE task:

You've hit your limit · resets 2am (America/Los_Angeles)

I waited until the next day to ask it to do it again, and then:

You've hit your limit · resets 1pm (America/Los_Angeles)

At which point I just gave up

kneel··on OpenAI agrees with Dept. of War to deploy models in their classified network
Chatgpt has an export function for all of your chats

Use it to save your data, shouldn't be hard to get it working elsewhere

kneel··on A macOS app that blurs your screen when you slouch
This is cool, I built something similar a while back. I originally wanted the screen to dim when I slouched but I couldn't get access to dimming on OSX. I ended up just playing a noise when I slouched. It became so distracting I stopped using it.

The blurring of the screen is a much better idea.

kneel··on Adoption of EVs tied to real-world reductions in air pollution: study
Even if all the electricity for EVs came from a centralized coal plant (it doesn't) it would be better than using combustion in individual vehicles. Centralized pollution in one area is better than attempting to mitigate diffuse pollution everywhere.

kneel··on Grokipedia and the coup against reality
Even if he was not involved in engineering whatsoever, his ability to attract talent, direct capital, and drive innovation is unmatched.

Few short learning performance scales with model size. Afaik they don't see a plateau yet and the race is on the ingest more data and come up with better tuning techniques.

kneel··on Bitcoin puzzle #66 was solved: 6.6 BTC (~$400k) withdrawn
That's not how bitcoin works
kneel··on Mice live longer when inflammation-boosting protein is blocked
Your body attacks substances that appear foreign, whether they're actually foreign or not is another issue.

Human bodies did not evolve for high macro diets, the high levels of sugar (among other molecules) in our diet glycosylate proteins they touch, warping their folding shape and causing inflammation as the body mistake itself for foreign invaders.

Probably a reason why fasting has become so popular, people are walking around with high levels of damage from dense caloric food, a fast allows your body to go through a cycle of catabolism/autophagy. Clearing our the misfolded/damaged proteins lowers inflammation.

kneel··on Show HN: Pour Decision – Alcohol Tracker and Mindful Drinking Companion
I got used to the taste after a couple of drinks. The few flavors available mask the taste.

For me it was similar to alcohol or coffee. Did not like it the first few times but gradually got used to it. Now I take a sip and it's refreshing.

kneel··on Show HN: Pour Decision – Alcohol Tracker and Mindful Drinking Companion
Try Ketohol, it's gaining popularity.

You get a slight buzz and no crummy feeling afterwards. Active ingredient is called 1-3-butanediol, breaks down into a ketone which is easily processed by the body. Unlike alcohol which breaks down into acetylaldehyde, nasty stuff.

Downsides are cost, availability, taste (not great) and buzz is not as strong as alcohol.

kneel··on The pay raise people say they need to be happy
I will never forget starting off my career as a 'contract employee' with no benefits. Working long hours I developed quite a few health problems within the first year. It was nearly impossible to see a doctor and when I finally did I had to fight the insurance company for weeks to cover a visit.

I was making every single meal to save money, my supervisor used to sneak us food from the c-suite catered lunches after we were banned from going upstairs to scavenge their leftovers.

When my contract was up they offered me another contract, after a year I expected to be offered full-time employment with benefits. I asked around to see if this was normal and met someone who had been a contract employee for 5 years. I quit the next week.

I think California passed a law preventing contractor classification abuse shortly after this but it left a lasting impression on my view of corporate business culture.

kneel··on Sam Altman is showing us who he really is
Did you believe her when she claimed that she was shadow banned from all social media because of her brother? Or that she had to become a sex worker to pay the bills because of his 'technological abuse'?

kneel··on Deep Aphantasia: a visual brain with minimal influence from priors?
The mass recoginition of Aphantasia and the rise of screentime seems somewhat correlated. They might be reinforcing one another, multiple avenues of cognition could be warping in unprecedented ways.

Highly industrialized societies have large populations that can experience, interact and survive their entire lives almost solely through screens. This seems to be an unknowing experiment we're performing on brains.

kneel··on What Extropic is building
This guy spends an extraordinary amount of time posting memes and e/acc silliness.

So much so I wonder what the hell they're doing with this company. Is he a prolific poster and an engineering genius? Or is he just another poster

kneel··on Bitcoin rally pushes BlackRock ETF over $10B in record time
That's not how centralization works, at least in the Bitcoin world
kneel··on Apple starts sending 'batterygate' settlement payments
I remember several iphones suddenly start performing poorly after updating coincidentally when Apple released new iphone models. It happened so much that people refused to update iOS because "that's how they get you."

Apple knew about the complaints, it was very loud. They did this for several update cycles and hit pay-dirt on their sales.

kneel··on Bayesians moving from defense to offense
It honestly just seems like an abstract debate to claim that your logical framework is somehow superior. Different tools for different datasets
kneel··on Coinbase targets financially vulnerable young adults
Bitcoin is highly volatile yet safe in the long term. Dollars are stable and lose value over time.

What are young people to do with their money? Real estate has a high cost of entry. Retirement accounts tie up their money until late age with rules that may change. Pensions are a thing of the past.

Crypto for all its flaws is soaring, less boomer, and allows for ownership of wealth.

kneel··on Researchers have identified new elements of whale vocalizations

kneel··on Marc Thorpe, Robot Wars founder, has died
I met Marc randomly a few years back. He was having difficulty walking while at a shop in downtown Berkeley, the shop owner needed to close and he couldn't leave. He had taken his medication for Parkinson's but it hadn't set in.

He gave me the keys to his car and drove it up to the storefront and helped him in. I drove him to a parking spot where he could wait for his legs to start moving again. Ended up chatting for a few about neuroscience and the lab I was working in at the time. He gave me his card and told me to look him up sometime.

I looked him up a few days later and was amazed that he was was intimately involved in star wars, indiana jones and robot wars.

kneel··on The AI industry turns against its favorite philosophy
In much the same way that rationalists groups attract the most irrational people. We're seeing that Effective Altruism is a magnet for psychopaths. I'm not saying that all people who practice EA are psychopaths, it's just that it provides a natural habitat and cloak for dark triad types.
kneel··on We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam to return to OpenAI as CEO
>He doesn't seem great at leading an engineering or research department

Under Sam's leadership they've opened up a new field of software. Most of the company threatened to leave if he didn't return. That's incredible leadership.

kneel··on The five filters of the mass media
I don't think they meant it as all encompassing.

The major players in media need access to policymakers to publish stories, they tend to go along with whatever narrative is being pushed in exchange for this access.

You wouldn't expect Greenwald to have WH press credentials for instance.
