kennydude··on Show HN: Two-way Jira sync in a collaborative spreadsheet and Gantt
GitLab has this functionality https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/project/service_desk.html
kennydude··on Show HN: 3D model file thumbnails for Windows Explorer
Looks like this supports a lot more than Microsoft PowerToys which can do a couple formats https://docs.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows/powertoys/file-expl...
kennydude··on Open Golf: A cross-platform minigolf game written in C
Very nice simple golf game. Refreshing on mobile where there's nothing but the game :)
kennydude··on LaBanquePostale payments request bank password
This appears, sadly, very legitimate.

For quite a while uk banks have done it with weird URLs. The only bank I know that does this incredibly well is Monzo as their 3D secure URLs are all on veirfy.monzo.com

kennydude··on MaskerAid iOS App
I love it. I'd love to also see something like this that can hide or change number plates of cars before posting online.
kennydude··on Slack System Status
GitLab has this publicly documented as for what to do in such a situation https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/communication/#emergency-c...
kennydude··on How I built a date picker
In terms of accessible date pickers, I'd refer people to the GOV.UK styleguide which explains what to use when (and by law their stuff needs to be accessible!)

https://design-system.service.gov.uk/patterns/dates/

kennydude··on Ask HN: Recommendations for an SMTP Sending Service?
Zoho is usually pretty cheap and reliable. Been around for a long time and don't seem to be going anywhere fast.

Their latest blog says to expect a well priced family solution in the next couple of days

kennydude··on IHP v0.17.0 has been released
Thank you for adding a line to explain what the project is. So many releases are posted here without explaining what they even are.
kennydude··on Amazon packages pile up after AWS outage spawns delivery havoc
Government IT using AWS is fine. Using it for safety critical things like railways is a lot more of an issue. What if there's any kind of latency etc?
kennydude··on Amazon packages pile up after AWS outage spawns delivery havoc
Why is a commuter rail travel system dependent on AWS? O___O
kennydude··on Google Webfonts Helper – Self-Hosting Google Fonts
Personally I like using Fontsource which uses npm for achieving similar results (https://fontsource.org/fonts/acme)
kennydude··on Slitaz, A 50MB Lightweight Desktop Operating System
It's a shame you can't see much detail on the screenshots about how they're using a web browser for settings and installation. Also why are the screenshots so small as well? Strange choice
kennydude··on An unprecedented wave of online bank fraud is hitting Britain
Monzo has some app integration with their phone staff too. They can send push notifications to open the app to a certain point etc,
kennydude··on Sailfish 4
Same, it's a horrifically negative and terrible user experience
kennydude··on I used to love Bootstrap. God, now I just hate it
So basically Bootstrap isn't great because a major version upgrade changed a few things? Most of it is the same with a few tweaks.

There's a lot worse version bumps like ExpressJS where the (at least seemingly) entire API got rewrote in a major version jump.

kennydude··on Show HN: Open by Design
Seems good especially when landing pages are added
kennydude··on Maplibre: community-driven Mapbox GL fork
The smoothness on the demo (at least on my machine) is very nice. Good work :)
kennydude··on A new way to make maps with OpenStreetMap
At least it's open source and self hostable so if it's too expensive for you, you can host it yourself
kennydude··on Telegram: Voice Chats 2.0:Channels, Millions of Listeners, Recorded Chats
At least on macOS you can
kennydude··on Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative
Nice to see this using Django and VueJS! :D
kennydude··on Baserow.io – Self-hosted Airtable alternative
Seatable doesn't appear to be open source, and for some reason the website is incredibly janky on Firefox
kennydude··on Diode Drive – Privacy-focused distributed alternative to GoogleDrive and Dropbox
I can't even see what the end user experience is from the website. All it seems to want you to do is install a random thing without really showing you what you can expect.
kennydude··on Migrating to SQLAlchemy 2.0
I've used Django with "real data", as in accountancy software for multiple years of transactions across 200+ fairly large clients and it's absolutely fine.

Whereas I've used Sqlalchemy and getting it to do a basic join, turns out there's 3 different ways of doing it all with an insane amount of crap to find the right way of doing things. I actually left my old job in part due to Sqlalchemy being too painful to work with.

kennydude··on They want us to be compliant, not secure
I think some of this is things with good intentions. For example to prevent someone trying to blab it's secure, when it's really not https://www.troyhunt.com/lessons-in-website-security-anti/
kennydude··on Europe's night trains are on track for a resurgence
Ideally you could have a lounge area at the start and end stations where passengers can shower and generally freshen themselves up. Kings Cross in London already has shower facilities, which are wonderful for long days as a tourist.
kennydude··on Dear Google: Search Competition should be 1 Click Away so why 15+ on Android?
This seems like, more than anything, something the EU would be able to require. Like they did with Microsoft and web browser choice,
kennydude··on Pimp My Microwave
They're so inacurate it hurts. My parents one is so bad that you have to put it to 5 minutes before it'll do anything, manually count 2 minutes, then stop it.
kennydude··on Mailgo, a new concept of mailto and tel links
That's an issue web browsers can solve.
kennydude··on The UK's online ID plans: expensive, intrusive, unnecessary
You can only hope they would do build something like that. With their recent IT projects, I have severe doubts.

It's like we've gone backwards from the start of the digital transformation the UK was leading...
