kellengreen··on CSS-Tricks in Limbo
Why purchase a website, just to run it into the ground? I never understood this.
kellengreen··on I Fired Google
This is so accurate.
kellengreen··on JSDoc is TypeScript
Came here to write this exact sentiment. Not everything needs a massive build pipeline.
kellengreen··on Google is killing the open web, part 2
Today I Learned: There's a built-in class called XSLTProcessor.
kellengreen··on How to self-host a web font from Google Fonts
^ this
kellengreen··on Zod 4
Does it?

Most Go, Java, and Python APIs are practically all Swagger based.

kellengreen··on The Death of Daydreaming: What we lose when phones take away boredom
The Shower Principle
kellengreen··on Evolving a NoSQL Database Schema
Agreed, this approach will not scale very well in DynamoDB.
kellengreen··on WebSockets vs. Server-Sent-Events vs. Long-Polling vs. WebRTC vs. WebTransport
I've always had a bit of a soft spot for Server Sent Events. Just simple and easy to use/implement.
kellengreen··on Framework Laptop 16 Review
Framework 13 + GPU Dock would be my ideal setup.
kellengreen··on MDN Blog
Hopefully this can help fill the void left by CSS-Tricks.
kellengreen··on Google I/O 2023
Same, that was one slick device.
kellengreen··on Google I/O 2023
I completely agree. I'm a multiple year attendee, and couldn't be bothered with the announcements these days.
kellengreen··on The man who didn’t invent Flamin’ Hot Cheetos (2021)
The American Store in London carries has them, for a considerable markup.
kellengreen··on Templating in HTML

kellengreen··on I went back to using a ThinkPad from 2012
Agreed, that T420 keyboard is simply perfection.
kellengreen··on Arm-Based 128-Core Ampere CPUs Cost a Fraction of x86 Price
This article just makes me miss the Tom's Hardware of old.
kellengreen··on Demystifying USB-C and Thunderbolt Docks (2017)
I've had this page bookmarked for years now, so major kudos to the author. 5 years on, it's still the best of explanation of all the different USB-C modes. I would love to see an updated version to include Thunderbolt 4 and USB4.
kellengreen··on FerretDB: A truly open-source MongoDB alternative
Perhaps I'm just being naive, bug I still fail to understand the animosity towards the SSPL license.
kellengreen··on Moths in slow motion [video]
They look like tiny dragons :)
kellengreen··on European Union announces plans to require all mobile devices to use USB-C
I'm a strong supporter for all that USB-C can offer, but making it mandatory feels like a terrible idea.

What if we did this to firewire back in the 2000s? Would all phones still be shipping with a now outdated and too large plug in 202X?

kellengreen··on Moving Avoids California Tax? Not So Fast
As an American living in London, you'd be correct, it's simply ridicilous.
kellengreen··on For developers, Safari is crap and outdated
The indexDB fiasco is a good example of negative developer sentiment towards Safari.

Firefox shipped support in 2011, with Chrome following suite a year later.

It's mid 2021, and the Safari implementation is still critically broken.

EDIT: It looks like the bug has been patched in developer preview, so hey progress +1.

kellengreen··on Fizzygum
> the front page did not make it clear to me what the heck a Fizzgum is or why I should care

This is a very depressing trend of late.

kellengreen··on JavaScript from 2001 on India's largest private bank site
Honestly kudos to the team, I was expecting much worse.

I can't imagine having some JS I wrote in the early 2000's on the front page of hacker news for the world to see.

kellengreen··on Why can't I write code inside my browser?
Open VSCode.

click Help.

select Toggle Developer Tools.

Realize you're writing code in a browser.

kellengreen··on Tell HN: Google drops blogspot.in, breaking hundreds of thousands of permalinks
But are we surprised?
kellengreen··on Dead Malls
Bright Sun Films on YouTube should get a shout out here. He produces a series called Abandoned, which covers topics like this.

kellengreen··on World of Goo Update, 10 Years Later
Agreed, the Wii version was great.
kellengreen··on Silicon Valley is changing, and its lead over other tech hubs narrowing
I'm with you on these points. After 6 years in San Francisco (Engineer), my wife and I both took new opportunities and moved to London. It's been 3 years, and we're still enjoying it.
