There was one additional reason why city wanted to create a free public transportation only for local residents. So that all the people who were working in Tallinn, but whose(?) place of residence was outside of city, would register themselves as Tallinn's official residents, and that means more tax payer money coming to city budget. Win-win.
Was the pilot also deadly stupid by trying to land the plane without releasing the fuel first? As I understand very few pilots have the experience to do that.
My two cents — change your name. Prometheus us too pretentious in my opinion. Also, Prometheus can be pronounced in different ways. Is it pronounced PromEEteus or PrometHeus? And its also ProMeth. :)
PDF is fine if you are using a laptop/desktop/tablet. But it doesn’t fit well into phone screens. Usually I have to turn my phone horizontally and then zoom in little bit. And when I reach the end of the page I have trobles turning it. And sometimes page turning messes up my perfect zoom fit etc. Responsive PDF is what I need...
How long have you worked with him? Your language suggest that you are making a lot of assumptions that might be false. This might be related to the fact that you are new and as a junior developer it might sometimes feel like people are against you for some reason. Maybe he actually is like you are describing, but somehow my gut feeling says that you are projecting your own insecurities onto him. I'm not dismissing your claim. Actually, he's a great opportunity to learn how to co-exist with people you don't particularly like.
And be careful how you use your language, just some points that got my attention:
- "who thinks he's my manager" -- You don't really know what he thinks.
- "like he knows everything(in reality he doesn't..." -- You don't really know what he knows.
- "He can't understand simple logic" -- I'm sure he can understand "simple" logic.
- "he acts like I don't know anything" -- People act differently, but you are the one who gives meaning to their actions. If you don't like him, everything he does might seem bad to you.
There are teams, that don't need to use scaffolding provided by "create-react-app". Maybe they just need a small react powered widget on their site, it would be silly to scaffold whole separate project just for that widget. Also, if you are using React as your primary tool, you should actually know, how to set it up manually.
It's interesting that in U.S and probably in other countries people talk about their annual salaries. Where I live we talk about our monthly salaries after all taxes have been deducted. So when I look at his last number $189,000, how can I convert it to actual monthly income(or are Americans payed/paid two times a month?). Probably I have to deduct income tax and health insurance, right? And there is also this 401k. Or are there any other hidden taxes that workers in U.S. have to take into consideration?
I have been thinking about creating a desktop app for a while now. Problem is I can't decide which framework to use. Ideally I would like to use Common Lisp, but McCLIM looks like it's from the eighties, there's also qtools and CommonQT that make it possible to use Qt in Common Lisp, but somehow I'm afraid to develop myself into corner with these tools. Could also use clojure and "seesaw", but again -- it's like I'm handicapping myself here. I could use Racket and it's GUI library, but Racket is marketed as a language for creating languages, so I'll skip that. I guess I still need to use Java 8 with JavaFX. I wish there was a lisp dialect just for developing desktop applications.
Thank you for pointing out the meaning of the title. I see it know. Had to read it 10 times if not more. I think the thing that tripped me of is the capital A(or the fact that I'm not native English speaker). I read the title like this: How "A Young Woman Followed Two Hackers" Lies to Her Death. So I understood it as if a young woman wrote an fictional(basically lying) article about how she followed two hackers.
What's up with these titles nowadays? I don't know if it's because the title is (possibly) missing a semicolon before 'A Young Woman Followed Two Hackers', or Lies to Her Death -- but I can't make a sense out of it. Is somebody dead because they lied? (I know I should have read the article, but this title!!)
One thing with Thousand Plateaus is that you don't have to read the book in sequence. You can start with random chapter. That's the only thing I remember from the book.
Off topic. Whenever I waste a lot of time on youtube looking into some subject(today it was black holes) it ends up on Hacker News also. Surely, somebody has a name for this effect.
Off topic: I can't read stories on hackernoon. The bright green header makes my eyes watery and after closing my eyes I can see the afterglow. I can see it even right now with eyes open. The fact that I can't scroll away from it, makes it even worse. Why would you make this header sticky?
What can I say, Jack London was my hero and "mentor" for years. Reading "Martin Eden" put me on a right track. After reading "Martin Eden" I wanted to become a writer and self-learned man, so I read books, wrote essays and short-stories. Thanks to that I managed to graduate high school with good enough grades and continue my studies in the University. I idolized him, although he was a man of contradictions. Jack London got me through my teens, anarchist thinkers got me through my twenties. Still looking for ideas that will guide me through my thirties. But anyway, thank you, Jack London.
You see every other smoker do it and you think, what’s the point? and you just throw it away. I can’t carry it in my pocket. If trashcan is in visible sight, I’m ok with walking little bit to get rid of it. But usually it’s the case that there isn’t any good way to dispose the sigaret butt. I remember when I started smoking I never littered the street, I took extra steps to get it into nearest trashcan, but three years later I have changed.
