julianh95··on AI generated music barred from Bandcamp
I believe their comment was edited after mine to include “Ozone” after Izotope.

I commented because there is an artist on bandcamp with the name Izotope which I assumed was why they mentioned Izotope in the first place.

I think you might be confusing Izotope the company with the band named Izotope.

How are you using it over SSH? :)
julianh95··on Motorists have been stranded on a major interstate in Virginia since last night
Some _fast_ and reliable mass transit like the trains in Japan/Europe sure would be nice to help alleviate situations like this and general traffic.
julianh95··on New East Bay facility producing lab-grown meat plans to produce 40K lbs per year
This is great! I can’t wait to purchase lab grown meat here in the US. My wife and I might even take a trip to Singapore to try the lab grown chicken there (in addition to touring). :)

The USDA currently has an open request for comments on the labeling of cell grown meat.

Background Music and Rectangle are great. I recently discovered rectangle after looking for a better tiling solution.
julianh95··on New Microsoft Study of 60k Employees: Remote Work Threatens Innovation
> Not so fast, suggests a massive new peer-reviewed study from Microsoft…

This feels (is?) biased toward the potential goals of Microsoft to push their hybrid/in-person plans.

julianh95··on In software, when an engineer exits the team
I enjoyed reading this. _As an engineer_, I have always had trouble with determining how to go about putting in my notice. I know that it’s “just business”, however I still get consumed by how my manager at the time will take it. Reading this gives me a sense of relief and I hope it helps when that time rolls around again.
julianh95··on The effects of remote work on collaboration among information workers
This is my experience. I've witnessed a company migrate to MS Teams given that it was included in their existing subscription. That alone was enough to kick-off a migration from Slack.
julianh95··on A stranger secretly lived in my home
+1 on this. I’d much rather spend more money if I knew it directly supported the creator/maker/etc. I often do this with my purchases where I look for their direct website and purchase from there.
julianh95··on Bitwarden is now in Arch Linux community repository
I believe that you can apply the license to your self hosted server for the features. Here is their GitHub page: https://github.com/bitwarden

Edit Found the on-prem license docs: https://bitwarden.com/help/article/licensing-on-premise/

Edit You could also just fork it and enable the features if you wanted to spend the time doing so.

Thanks for sharing this. Do you have the timestamp for that particular bit?

Edit: Looks like it's from 6:00 to 6:40

julianh95··on Kali Linux 2020.3
You definitely shouldn't use it as a daily. However, Offensive Security is trying to make it a smooth experience given that quite a bit of time is spent using it for penetration tests, CTFs, etc in addition to "competition" from ParrotOS. Most folks that I know would switch to it anyway so having it be the default makes it easier.

julianh95··on Stan Lee dead at 95
Rest In Peace! I have not been a much of a Marvel fan but seeing his cameo in Venom was pretty cool. Now I have to go watch some more Marvel movies!
julianh95··on Samsung opens its Bixby assistant to developers
This is exactly what I plan on doing. I am just upset with their existence.
julianh95··on Samsung opens its Bixby assistant to developers
They appear within the TV's interface (Tizen OS).
julianh95··on Samsung opens its Bixby assistant to developers
My experience with Bixby has been mixed as I am not too fond of the leveling system they have in place. However, I recently got a Samsung TV that has Bixby integrated and I dig it for the small tasks it can accomplish well such as changing the TV input selection. I can't wait to give the dev stuff a try!

On an unrelated note, I am pretty upset that my Samsung ~$1200 TV has ads built into it.

This has been my strategy as well and I can confirm that only good things have come of it.
julianh95··on Retro Review: 2009 Mac Pro in 2018
Great review! We have a 2011 Macbook Pro that I have since upgraded from an HDD to SSD and installed 16gb of RAM and I must say its still alive and well.
julianh95··on Teens Aren’t Partying Anymore
Agreed. Just turned 22 this past October. I had a very similar experience in that I couldn't go somewhere unless my mother had met their parents (which rarely happened) and like yourself I was hooked to my tech. It has payed dividends career wise but I didn't get to be too social growing up.
julianh95··on SuperMeat raises $3M for lab-grown chicken
This is fantastic! Hopefully they take off like Impossible Foods did with their faux beef burger that is akin to the real thing.
julianh95··on The evolution of eyes
Very nice write-up. You have inspired me to look into building a terrarium and keeping some spiders. I had a Green Lynx Hunter outside my backdoor for awhile and he was so nice to watch.

Also, I hate to be "that guy" but I found a few grammatical errors towards the end of your post. The first being with "No, not poisonous, but all spiders produced venom..."(produced > produce) and "Their are no jumping spiders that have venom"(Their > There). /grammar policing over :P Otherwise awesome article, thanks for the inspiration!
