jtokoph··on Workday to acquire Pipedream
The pay amounts also include any RSUs granted and NSOs sold.

It took many back and forths with my employer’s HR department and executives to get them to tell ADP to stop sending this info to Equifax (work number)

jtokoph··on Loose wire leads to blackout, contact with Francis Scott Key bridge
It’s been noted that automatic failover systems did not kick in due to shortcuts being taken by the company: https://youtu.be/znWl_TuUPp0
jtokoph··on JavaScript Engines Benchmarks
I was looking for Bun and learned that it uses JavaScriptCore
jtokoph··on iPhone Pocket
If you change the "Size" on the store page from "Long" to "Short", the yellow is there. https://www.apple.com/shop/product/hs8r2zm/a/iphone-pocket-b...
jtokoph··on Colon cancer is rising in young people and scientists got a clue about why
I’m also using NextDNS and haven’t been able to load any of these archive domains in at least a few days now
jtokoph··on Apple's "notarisation" – blocking software freedom of developers and users
It’s also limited to companies that have a proven life span of at least 3 years IIRC (you have to provide a duns number). They may have reopened for individuals, but that means your personal name attached to every binary.
jtokoph··on Meta projected 10% of 2024 revenue came from scams
I half joke that the term “parental controls” will change meaning from restrictions set by parents on children to the opposite: restrictions now set up by children to protect their parents.
jtokoph··on NPM flooded with malicious packages downloaded more than 86k times
Keep in mind that the vast majority of the 86,000 downloads are probably automated downloads by tools looking for malicious code, or other malicious tools pulling every new package version looking for leaked credentials.

When I iterate with new versions of a package that I’ve never promoted anywhere, each version gets hundreds of downloads in the first day or two of being published.

86,000 people did not get pwnd, possibly even zero.

jtokoph··on uBlock Origin Lite in Apple App Store
My biggest issue has been with captive portals for open WiFi networks. Allowlisting has helped some I think but not perfect
jtokoph··on Bay Area tech CEO says test project likely struck United flight at 36,000 feet
The other interesting thing is that these airliners follow common waypoints as if they are sky highways. It seems like it would be easy to avoid this airspace. Example: https://www.esri.com/news/arcnews/summer11articles/summer11g...
jtokoph··on Email bombs exploit lax authentication in Zendesk
Unless I missed it, the article doesn’t explain how this works. It seems like the spammer sends an email to support@somecompany.com but spoofs the From address to be the target of the spam. The Zendesk ticket system then sends the auto reply to the spoofed From address
jtokoph··on A conspiracy to kill IE6 (2019)
I thought the whole thing was a different app at youtube.com/tv
jtokoph··on I built ChatGPT with Minecraft redstone [video]
There are external tools which essentially let you script the generation of a save file of the world.
jtokoph··on Cursor 1.7
Off topic, but does anyone understand why Apple’s reader mode is so bad? This post is an example of reader mode not displaying section titles. I see this pretty frequently, even in my own blog, and haven’t been able to figure out hires to beat its flawed logic.
jtokoph··on Some dogs can classify their toys by function
Our golden retriever knows the difference between her tug toys, plushie toys and chew toys. When we ask her to put her toys away she used to only collect the plushies and put them in the basket. We had to do extra training to get her to associate clean up with all types.
jtokoph··on Verisign Is Down
Unable to register any domains managed by Verisign via any registrar.
jtokoph··on Vapor chamber tech keeps iPhone 17 Pro cool
I figure it will just be clocked down to maintain thermals
jtokoph··on Imgur's community was in revolt
My guess would be cost. I don’t think Reddit had much, if any, revenue at the time and images would likely require orders of magnitude more storage.
jtokoph··on Show HN: 0xDEAD//TYPE – A fast-paced typing shooter with retro vibes
That's what I kept hitting based on normal W/S in gaming hand position (home-row offset by one)
jtokoph··on More on Apple's Trust-Eroding 'F1 the Movie' Wallet Ad
You may never see it because Apple holds all of the streaming rights.
jtokoph··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
These are fun. I think Kingly would be better if solutions were unique. I was confused at first when I ended up in a situation with ambiguity and realized the puzzle just had multiple solutions (Sunday, June 29)
jtokoph··on Ask HN: What Are You Working On? (June 2025)
FYI, Your personal site seems to have some styling issues: https://imgur.com/0pDKc4l

Same thing in firefox and chrome on mac.

jtokoph··on Show HN: Badgeify – Add Any App to Your Mac Menu Bar
Some people are worried about the new ownership: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=40584606
jtokoph··on Apple allows Google to skirt App Store commission
AppleTV Plus was just released on Android, wasn’t it? Quid pro quo?
jtokoph··on Using eSIMs with devices that only have a physical SIM slot via a 9eSIM SIM car
Apparently there aren't any eSIMs in China that include a phone number. I'm not sure why.

I think this is why Apple releases the latest iPhones with physical SIM trays in China while the latest iPhones in North America are eSIM only

jtokoph··on Indexing Code at Scale with Glean
I was really confused and surprised that Meta was using a commercial product for indexing instead of building in-house...until I realized that they weren't talking about the AI search indexing tool at glean.com
jtokoph··on Elon Musk wanted an OpenAI for-profit
GPT-4 :)
jtokoph··on Linux desktop market share climbs to 4.45%

jtokoph··on Show HN: My 70 year old grandma is learning to code and made a word game
Hopefully they just don't realize that the word is the same for everyone each day.

I would guess that it’s using MDM/configuration profiles
