jraby3··on US health system ranks last compared with peer nations – report
A huge portion of our healthcare goes to paying health insurance providers, high rates for pharmaceuticals, and hospitals.

There's a reason these industries in the US are some of the most profitable. They act as middle men and make massive profits.

jraby3··on We're not going to run out of new anatomy anytime soon
It’s working for me.
jraby3··on To Live Past 100, Mangia a Lot Less: Italian Expert's Ideas on Aging
Longo has also done some interesting work with fasting during chemo and had excellent initial results (not mentioned in the article).

Peter attia, another longevity expert, has recently reversed his position and is now against fasting because he believes muscle loss as you age is a bigger problem.

jraby3··on School absences have ‘exploded’ almost everywhere
In Israel a lot of the schools start with 20 minutes of body movement (at least near me).

The kids become active. It’s not as big a deal if they are a little late. And my daughter (but not my son) hates missing it.

jraby3··on 'If anything happens, it's not suicide': Boeing whistleblower before death
Wouldn’t the time to have killed him be before he testified?
jraby3··on Just 2 cans of soda per week is too much – even if you exercise
Admittedly all people are different but while I was using a cgm cola had a much higher impact than two slices of white bread.

Also surprisingly for me, pasta had a relatively low impact on my blood sugar.

jraby3··on California Approves Waymo Expansion to Los Angeles and SF Peninsula [pdf]
There’s probably a smart way to ride share during peak times using a service like Waymo. Could be the best of both worlds.

I could also envision a future where a car owner allows his car to be used for Waymo if he isn’t using it, and receives some compensation.

jraby3··on [dead]
He did. If you click on the link and watch the twitter video there are several instances where he conflates Jews with zionists.
jraby3··on 'They're knowingly addicting kids': the attorney challenging social media firms
The fact that ~20% of gen Z don’t believe the holocaust happened is directly related to Tim Tok imo, and an absolute cancer for our culture and way of life. Something absolutely needs to be done about social media.
jraby3··on eBay is laying off 9 percent of its workforce
Disagree.

I was buying a high end soap product from Amazon and when we used one from a hairstylist we realized ours were consistently fake.

Bottle and everything looked the same. But then we started buying direct from Dermalogica and it was clear the Amazon products are all fakes. Worst part is the store name on Amazon is Dermalogica products or something very similar to the real name.

jraby3··on Buffett once bet $1M that he could beat a group of hedge funds over 10 years
Charlie munger and buffet are famous for not diversifying very much. They deeply research companies and then buy them long term. Currently half the Berkshire portfolio is in apple.

Also bill gates probably wants to change the world for the better with his assets and has done so repeatedly. So the trillion dollar difference probably would have had a huge positive impact on the world.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
My family actually waited till 1971 to leave. By then Sadam was in power.

It doesn’t matter that much. The Muslim world these days is deeply antisemitic.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
I’m not comparing Muslim vs European rule. The point is that when world events happen, Jews aren’t safe.

Life wasn’t equal as a Jew in Iraq, and that was one of the best examples one could find. And it shouldn’t matter that Israel was formed - if Jews were safe there they should always be safe.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
https://mediabiasfactcheck.com/al-jazeera/

In this summary it shows Al Jazeera as left center bias in general, but with heavily biased reporting against Israel. For this specific topic it is clearly one of the most biased news sources that are still given credibility.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
You are right. I shouldn’t have used that phrase. It was wrong and I agree with you 100% that isn’t the real reason, just a very poor abbreviation of a deeper reason.

It was for the more common reasons. To scapegoat the Jews while the government steals and does horrible things to its citizens.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
I was born in Iraq where the Jewish community there was ethnically cleansed.

Way before the foundation of Israel, my father and uncles were restricted in numerous ways because of their Jewish ancestry. For example there were quotas on the number of Jews allowed in universities.

Jews were frequently imprisoned there (including my father and his brothers) for the sole reason of being Jewish.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
This is a ridiculous comment. Do you really think the decedents of 150k Iraqis are going to go back to Iraq for example???

In what world would that ever happen? Would those people ever be safe there?

And that’s just one of a dozen countries that tortured and killed Jews in the name of Allah.

jraby3··on 'Like we were lesser humans': Gaza boys, men recall Israeli arrest, torture
Just a reminder that Aljazeera is the state sponsored news of Qatar, a county that hosts Hamas leaders and is close allies with Iran.

It’s not a valid news source.

jraby3··on AMD leaps after launching AI chip that could challenge Nvidia dominance
They are up 6% today which is significant.
jraby3··on Don't kill my app
The best hack I’ve found for iOS (iOS isn’t even listed in the article) is keeping phone in low power mode.
jraby3··on Revenge bedtime procrastination
Maybe fix it by accepting it and yourself.

I love getting up early for the same reason. Everyone is asleep everything is quiet and I can just relax in a way I can’t when people are around.

If you can, try to arrange your morning routine to give you some extra time to sleep and enjoy the quality time at night.

jraby3··on Parental controls? What parental controls?
On the switch parental controls if you choose to set limits by day then you can choose zero minutes.

Our issue is that there is no cross platform parent control. Laptop, iPhone, switch, and let’s not forget about the TV. If I want to set a limit of screen time there is no way to just limit all time to 2 hours a day.

jraby3··on Show HN: I made a 30-day social anxiety challenge
I try very hard to always schedule at least one social interaction a day.

It doesn’t always work but it definitely helps avoid that reset that you are referring to.

jraby3··on New Study Says Maybe Helicopter Parenting Is Making Kids Depressed
This makes sense. You give kids confidence by letting them get through difficult situations on their own.

If the parent fixes every issue, kids never develop confidence. They feel incapable of solving their own problems. That’s a recipe for depression.

jraby3··on SpaceX Starship Super Heavy Project at the Boca Chica Launch Site
I couldn’t agree more. Online if you utter respect for some of his accomplishments your considered a fanboy. He’s an idiot on social media but he’s accomplished some amazing things for humanity.
jraby3··on Psychedelic Mushrooms Hit the Market in Oregon
Aside from the other comments, opioids are much more addictive than psilocybin. All drugs have risks, but the risk of death or serious issues (whether psychosis or addiction) are a fraction of what they are with opioids.
jraby3··on How to run 50% faster without external energy (2020)
I had it for years, even had to get cortisone shots in the bottom of my feet.

The only solution that worked for me was stretching. When you are standing on a step, let your heel hang down as low as possible one foot at a time. Do this for both feet and do it with straight legs and bent knees multiple times a day. It only takes about a minute and does an amazing job of curing plantar.
