This is tangential, but I'm surprised to learn the "rockstar programmer" thing people complain about goes so far back.
Only downsides:
- Low res TN screen. It's atrocious.
- Lenovo nerfed the Trackpoint drivers at some point, making it impossible to configure the middle button behavior.
It's kind of the nature of the beast. It's one of the only (or is it the only?) laptops they can do this with, so if you're committed to a FSF-approved machine you're stuck with old hardware.
The book does veer somewhat into unfounded conspiracy territory, but I think it's an interesting read so far and the author doesn't come across as crazy so much as skeptical.
Things trend because they're... wait for it... popular.
> Also, there's a reason why orchestras all over the country are going on strike or shutting down.
Unless you assume that all classical music is orchestral or that you can only experience such music in a certain setting, I'm not sure where you're going with this.
I have several handmade baskets, though I confess that they were handed down to me from my parents. They don't have to be a staple, however, to still have a place these days.
> Really? Have you turned on the radio in the past 30 years? I live in a major metropolitan area, and there are only two classical music channels. And they are constantly going on fundraising drives, begging listeners to donate so that they can stay on the air.
That means that classical music hasn't found a stable home on the radio in your area. It doesn't at all mean that classical music and opera aren't booming. The 21st century is jam-packed with classical composers and there are plenty of people recording, performing, and consuming those works.
I agree, but I doubt this project took any manpower or resources away from the Model 3. If anything, it'll generate some extra cash to help with their R&D.
Theodore Roosevelt's policy on monopolies was pretty much this. Monopolies that provided good service at reasonable prices were left alone, those that abused their power were attacked.
I believe this is not a concern on the Surface 3 in question. One the Pro model, especially with the higher end processors it definitely is.
Reddit is already addictive. I'm sure they could take a bit of inspiration from the variety of addictive "free to pay" games and work in microtransactions and perks.
No, ad-blockers are necessary because ads (as they exist right now) are security risks that negatively impact performance and the the user experience of the site.
I'm more than happy to disable my ad-blocker on sites that I trust and appreciate, but they are only a tiny fraction of the sites I visit. Either wise up and provide a sane and trustworthy user experience, or wither as your revenue vanishes.
I think we see the DNA of Courier in the Surface line. Of course it's not all that the demos for Courier were, but it's a step in the right direction and I hope we see a lot more evolution in that regard.
> PCs are on track to become a < 200M unit/year business
I think they're well aware of that, which is why Azure and their other services are a huge part of their plans for the future. Microsoft isn't just Windows anymore.
> Microsoft will find that making a universal desktop-to-phone OS is in practical terms not doable
They seem to be doing an alright job so far. I think it's ambitious and currently imperfect, but I also think they can pull it off in time.
Will it really?
> Reduce lock-in, support better cross platform development, and more developers will come to Windows
This is exactly what they're doing.
Maybe you're not challenging yourself sufficiently. Try to find something that will be very difficult for you and start to attack it.
