I wonder how some people are truly exceptional. Not exactly in the same league of hard sciences like Einstein, etc. But an adjacent track in programming. This is not the 10x vs 1000x type of stuff, but original creative thought executed elegantly.

If you are the person who uses rooted mobile then this is definitely your material. I had a router that stalled if i use torrent and had to reboot to get it to working. Then i explored and found this amazing project.

Router firmware's are fully of buggy and on top of that they abuse users just because they can https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=24530009

Buy a router that supports openwrt and you can block ads at the router level among a lot of other cool things.

I don't know much about Castro, but the books by Che gives me the impression he works with the hacker ethic and actually a nice guy who sees humans beyond nationality or things as such.

The book on "Guerrilla Warfare" gives insights on his hacker like thinking. In the first page he describes the preconditions required to uproot the revolution and treats it like forming a startup. He summarizes 30 people is the ideal for the initial group to create revolution and describes about different personality types required among them. There is no big words like sacrifice, noble cause and stuff which you usually see used by the authoritarians, just pure information. He also goes on to say even without Castro the revolution would have happened.

By the way I like Che not communism.

The one major reason i fully support remote work is, its effect on "age bias". You may be in your 20's and you may not feel the pressure. Once you hit 35+, you see age-bias everywhere. Its better to have job opportunities based on skill rather than how you look.

> Or you go to their manager

From the managers manager perspective its too much work to oversee people at 2 levels. If the manager gets the job done, that idle for him/her.

In my experience HR department always sides with the most people who have most power. This is not surprising, they don't have any direct contribution and have much less power.

john4532452··on Parallel Tracks
Managers will fight for status quo, its their only thing. If you can not resolve conflict with the manager, quitting is the only right answer.
john4532452··on Loss of smell could be a 'highly reliable indicator' of Covid-19, research says
> I had a mild case of covid and the loss of smell and taste was unlike anything similar I've ever experienced.

Very much true. Usually when you bite a lemon you feel a strong sour taste followed by involuntary movement of hands tightening towards the chest and shivering briefly.

With covid's loss of taste, i felt no taste at all when biting a lemon, but the body wants to shiver which i could control easily but was very confusing experience i never felt before. Very unique experience.

Also realized the appetite falls rapidly. Without taste i had to force feed myself. During normal illness your are tired and don't want to eat, but this is very different experience.

john4532452··on How To Be An Anti-Casteist
Because this is done very subtly, you would not even realize. It took me a very long time to find about this. Once my manager asked me if i was a vegetarian. My brahmin friend educated on this. The test is to ask if a person is a vegetarian. If no then ask if their family were a vegetarian. If no then don't proceed further. You now know he is a non-brahmin, else you now know he is a brahmin and you freely discuss about caste.

Whenever you are very surprised during promotions the reason is always the manager is a brahmin. No matter how friendly, i never want my manager to be brahmin, but it not possible always.

john4532452··on How To Be An Anti-Casteist
You are looking the caste equivalent to the tribe. It is not. A European college being happy to see a fellow European on a international team is not the same as a two people associating with caste.

Caste is a system designed based on the "division of laborers", not labor(very important distinguishing) to promote privilege by birth and monopoly of education to some and denial to the rest. By "division of laborers" i mean if a person is born in a non priestly caste they will be denied education and its impossible to change caste. This was the case until the Britishers arrived to india and you see majority of the indians are first graduates in the family now because of denial of education to their forefathers.

This is the reason caste system must not be encouraged at all.

The idea of the new policy of introducing public exams for the 5th and 8th grade is to discourage students to go to school. Once the govt school has the exams they are forced to fail few percentage of the students and very likely they will discontinue the school. This is the reason in the past till 9th students were promoted in tamilnadu which has the highest college goers because the students who were not performing in the mid school got a chance later.

The important question is what is driving this educational policy. Its the belief of the vedas that for a society to function well not everyone should have the same opportunity and access to education. Everyone has duty based on the family they were born and should not be allowed to change.

RSS ideology is to make india a hindu religous state. Hinduism is based on the vedic books which advocate varna system.

> The prime minister himself is from the lower caste.

This does not change anything. Modi is just a pawn. He does not have any original ideology, he is there for power.

Look at the number of brahmins and non-brahmins in the key position in the BJP. Look at the analysis here https://theprint.in/politics/ambedkar-on-its-agenda-but-bjp-...

If you are still not convinced, look at what "Subramanian swamy" had to say when every one in BJP party was changing their twitter profile last name to "chowkidar"(meaning soldier or protector). He said he is a brahmin and its brahmins duty to advice how the country should be run and not be a soldier as vedas consider brahmins as superior to all the other varnas.

https://www.indiatoday.in/elections/lok-sabha-2019/story/can...

The point is the ideology that is driving BJP is all about bringing back the privilege based on the birth.

john4532452··on Amnesty International India Halts Its Work in India Due to Government Reprisal
Yes. The BJP government is backed by the RSS and most of the members of the BJP party including Modi is former member of RSS. RSS is a religious organization supporting the varna system.

> Hindu nationalism is just like any nationalism.

There is a fundamental difference Indian nationalism and other countries nationalism. Indian nationalism is all about bringing back the "varna system" which advocates stratification of society based on the birth and access to education is only allowed for the brahmins(priestly caste). This was the system implemented strictly before the Britishers arrived to India.

No country to my knowledge does denies education to its own people in the name of nationalism.
In contrast in other countries the nationalism is not about stratification of society or honoring privilege by birth.

I am skeptical of dismissing the "red pill" entirely. Feynman tested being jerk to get laid and it had worked for him. However he did not continue being jerk because he found it hard to be against his nature or he had moral dilemma about it. I forgot exactly why he stopped using the method
