It's not "required", it's only that high because it has so much success. Bitcoin would be working with only one miner running, the first blocks were minted on a private computer.
If you compare Bitcoin's environmental footprint to the whole financial system with air cooled offices around the world, with equipment, server rooms it doesn't come close.
A positive side of Bitcoin mining is that it's geographically independent and it can move to where they have too much energy which cannot be stored. In some cases the abundance of energy would be wasted through gas flaring which puts more CO2 into the atmosphere. Now they can get rid of their excessive energy and store it in the form of Bitcoin.

Thinking that it won't happen to you won't make it go away unfortunately, your country isn't special, if no drastic measures are being taken like full quarantine this will happen to you too.
My country is in full lockdown and still a lot of people don't see the gravity of the situation. People dismissing it as less dangerous than influenza are misinformed.
Apple's public key can be found here.
Another important factor is the 10 minutes confirmation time, nobody wants to wait for 10 minutes at the counter before they trust you walking out. We need something with instant verification and low fees and increasing the blocksize will never do that.
Lobbies are winning from the population and governments don't give a damn about the people who put them in office.
How can we fix it?
I think it will be the same with Bitcoin, it might be dead if it will stay in the form that it is today but my guess is that it won't be the case.
Every new thing that Apple does gets a lot of negative attention, remember the launch of the iPad? It was being mocked and laughed at but now everyone seems to have a tablet. Remember this?

Another argument I saw is "they force users to look down at their keyboard". I still have to meet the first user who uses the function rows blindly, besides the esc key it wasn't that useful and everyone was looking down at the keyboard to find the right keys already.
It intrigues me and I would like to try it out.
After everything it indeed sometimes feels like it comes down to this. They want to see you physically sitting at your desk for at least 8 full hours, that's the only 'measurement' in productivity that most companies seem to care about.

Gives great insights in various matters for simpletons like myself.
Well, I can understand the physically part, but fortunately you can solve it with money, you just have to pay for your hardware upfront, it is expensive, but I work on my MacBook Pro > 9hrs a day. It's four years old now and doesn't need replacement yet, it's doing fine, the battery is doing fine.
Most people only look at how much an item costs at the time of purchase, but a fairer comparison would include the span of time that your device is sufficient and you don't need replacement.
I use my laptop for my job, the amount of money I make with a laptop outweighs the cost of a laptop by far. Most professionals in their job invest in good material, why would it be different in IT?
As for the software part, the software that Apple provides is astonishing to me. For example wiping a HD multiple times is just a setting, in windows you can start looking for freeware for doing the same thing. It comes with so many possibilities out of the box, I can't think of anything that I would want to do that I can't do now.
Just yesterday I sat next to a guy running Ubuntu and I couldn't believe what I saw, when he tried to search his hard drive he typed in his search parameters.. but then the first thing that popped up were shopping items, faster than the items present on his hard drive... Really?!?
A MacBook pro isn't perfect and it is costly but it's simply the best option for me now.
The internet these days is much like McDonald's, instant gratification and quantity over quality.
It will be possible to do everyday payments with it, it's not that because that bitcoin is decentralised that no centralised value can exist with it. It's just so beautiful that you can interact with it any you want. Take for example mint.com that has to acquire and integrate with each and every bank separately, with bitcoin anyone can build a mint.com with the blockchain. It has the potential to change the world in ways we cannot imagine yet.
I'm even dreaming about open governments where we can actually see the governments spending... I'm a dreamer.
It's even freaky when I know that it's just an audio file playing.
Just realise yourself that becoming a billionnaire overnight is impossible, it seems like you want to do too much in too short time. When you have the feeling that you can't get anything done and that you aren't performing of what you should be performing at that time, you're stuck in an inner circle of dissappointment for yourself, whatever you are doing it will never be good enough. The best thing you can do is to take a step back and just do nothing for a while, it just doesn't seem best to put this much pressure on yourself. Maybe it's not for you but it helped for me, start to meditate and just know that you can't do x amount of things at the same time.
Being a hacker is good and all but a good product just takes a lot of time and effort. The design has to fit, the functionality has to just be right, these are things that you really can't handle on your own or in a short period of time. I would really advise you to study or work a day to day job and try to earn money with making things that you like to make until you regain mental stability. It's also a good way to come in contact with interesting people.
When you would find a day to day job, try to make a living and save up for when you want to make a product.
