jerbearito··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
You addressed nothing I said/asked. Have a nice day!
jerbearito··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
So you’re limiting the scope of your analysis to this report only? Where does it mention water usage by housing built in Austin over the past two years?

You’re comfortable making those comparisons and concluding how significant the water usage is but you’re unwilling to check the context of the data in the report? Not sure I follow.

jerbearito··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
Lincoln data center "comes online" in 2026 (info from Google). These are early, non-mature operating numbers. I'm disappointed this wasn't made more clear in the story and, of course, most of the comments here don't understand the context.
jerbearito··on Improper redaction reveals Google Data Center water and electricity usage
Not a meaningful amount of water in early reporting from a non-mature operating state. Why are we drawing any conclusions at this point?

Hey, I appreciate your advocacy for a good idea.
jerbearito··on Muse Gadgets
Fair take, but I'm not seeing anything that makes me buy that rosy theory over Meta just doing PR to get adoption in the dev community.
jerbearito··on Proton Outage
Services are back up for me.
jerbearito··on Proton Outage
I'm looking at Fastmail for email. For other stuff, not sure yet. I've seen folks recommend Nextcloud. I'm similarly dreading moving my files/backups.
jerbearito··on Proton Outage
Same, considering switching after this for sure.
jerbearito··on Proton Outage
Can't access anything this morning. This is getting a bit silly.
jerbearito··on Proton Global Outage
Same issue today? Been down for a few hours.

Sorry, I didn’t realize you also had anecdotal evidence. lol

> far too high for a social good

Not sure what you're basing this on -- hopefully not just your impression after reading things online.

jerbearito··on OpenLogi
I didn't say that at all.
jerbearito··on OpenLogi
Seems like we should be able to disagree, as you're doing here, without all the "that's harsh" (it wasn't) and "who cares?" (people, including you) comments.

Thanks so much!

Sure, but that doesn't allow the author to share an Amazon affiliate link for a product.
jerbearito··on I stopped trusting USB-C cable labels and started testing them
Does HN allow spammy posts written for the sake of sharing an affiliate link? Surprised to see this here.
jerbearito··on Bioengineered chewing gum may offer a way to fight HPV and other microbes
Lol they didn't read the article.

I don't see how that behavior being predictable, in your view comparing to humans, means the prompt was "strongly incentivising" it. Perhaps you could strongly predict the outcome, but there was nothing even bordering on a suggestion to produce a deceitful/false response.
jerbearito··on Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019)
I disagree, and also I'm not here to award points for anything.
jerbearito··on Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019)
Odd take and deeply dismissive. The author addresses your point already.
jerbearito··on Making
> but don’t tell me I did not “make” it because it simply would not exist if I hadn’t created it

You did NOT make the software that you generated with AI. But there's nothing wrong with you feeling proud of initiating it. If anyone tells you that you shouldn't feel proud of the prompting you did, please just ignore that person.

jerbearito··on Why Are There No Empires in Age of Empires? (2019)
The author addresses that.

This is known and commonly used -- since 1996. What's the risk? You can't change records about other domains.

"so I don’t need any realignment of my ability to discern what I’ve read from what I’ve imagined"

Not what I asked but I'm glad you're doing okay! I share your concerns.

"That seems like a major security issue."

Do you mean something you verified is happening or something you assumed is happening? You can go look at the site OP linked and find out what is happening and if it's a "major security issue". In this case, after user click/intervention, it renames the current history entry to "New Tab". This is not a security issue at all.

This is great. I've considered doing the same thing. After all, I've always used em dashes in my writing, so I suppose all my blog posts are AI-generated as well.
